Anyone else dislike Abrams, and his casting? Everything I've seen of his, is disappointing. And his casting is usually TV quality.

Weren't Hamill, Fisher and Co. pretty much TV quality as well in their time ? Lucas wanted young unknown actors (says the legend, I bet it doesn't mention 'cheap' on purpose).

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
Another thing about this so-called "New Order" uprising as shown in the 3 trailers of SW Episode VII -- just exactly, how is the New Order funded? Could it be from leftover Republic credits/vast accounts used during the Galactic Empire's heyday that was the primary monetary source of funds?
It'd be interesting to see some of the ol' usual huge manufacturing corporations/conglomerates that produced the Empire's weaponry/the old-school Star Destroyer ships/etc. cranking up some slight cosmetic updates to their existing wares some 30 years later just to remain afloat/in business (the New Order variant Star Destroyer comes to mind). Of course, Republic credits are king and if you have enough of it to spend as you wish, so be it. Wouldn't want to turn away a major customer (such as the mysterious group behind the New Order uprising/army) with plenty of credits to spend/burn.
Not to mention, with this New Order (sounds like the lingering remains of what was leftover from the Galactic Empire's iron fisted rule) and their plans to crush the "Resistance" to end it once & for all. Sure, by gaining access to some Spartti cloning technology, whipping up a whole new Stormtrooper army would be feasible/child's play with this New Order army (unless it's comprised of an all-volunteer army instead).
Originally, Disney/Lucasfilm wanted to release SW Episode VII during the summer of 2015 but the story and script/screenplay wasn't written in time for it to be released during that time. By going with the "tried and true" December 2015 release date, they've got the international box office all to themselves easily (just like with Tron Legacy released a scant five years earlier on December 18th, 2010). Very smart and wise on Disney and Lucasfilm's part to break tradition and release a new SW film during the winter (when it'd usual be the tradition/custom to release a new SW film during the May summer blockbuster film sweeps and still have to contend with other major Hollywood studios vying/jockeying for a slice/cut of the money pie -- meaning less $$$ earned at the box office in the end). It all makes sense now from a business/profit standpoint going forward.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Disney/Lucasfilm release a bonafide 3D Blu-Ray disc set of Star Wars Episode VII about six months later from it's theatrical movie debut -- it's a given alrighty.

While we're on the topic of campy old timey pulp fiction throwbacks, is that new Destroyer movie still happening?
Casting is irrelevant when the fundamental underlying scaffolding has nothing to say. He's just mediocre, not atrocious and not good. Which I suppose is perfect for Star Wars.
I was highly entertained by how obvious it was that Lost had no planning put into it and was obviously leading nowhere, while knowing there were dumb little nerds out there who believed otherwise. Culminating with "Jeezurs did it" is a thoroughly splendid little shaggy dog story of complete nihilism.evil_ash_xero wrote:Anyone else dislike Abrams, and his casting? After the pop-faecal scripts of Prometheus (SPACEJESU DID IT, also, he fite realy good...) and Into Darkness (KHAAAN see what they did there, also, he fite realy good...), I'd be a lot more worried about Lindelof than Abrams. I think he's been imprisoned and subsequently beaten with a rubber hose or something, though, so SW nerdz can worry slightly less imo! SLIGHTLY. ಠ_ಠ

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
Very interesting theory of Jar Jar Binks being Supreme Leader Snokes...assuming IF it is revealed within this new SW Episode VII movie. Or could Snokes have been hiding in the shadows watching from afar during Palpatine's reign/rule (shown in SW Ep. 3 through Ep. 6) should something happen to him, take Palpatine's place some considerable time later (30 years) to resurrect the Sith Lords back into power?
The Sega ST-V version of Radiant Silvergun is a "meaner and leaner" version, indeed, but without the usual cutscenes of the SS version -- still is quite a legendary shmup to behold/experience/play if hooked up to a pair of stereo speakers cranked up when fired up on a candy cab setup.
Back to the original topic at hand.

Well that confirmed my worst fear: shit awful acting. The girl, whoever she is, looks absolutely terrible. Can't seem to deliver any of those lines with any credibility and looks totally out of place with her lightsaber-at-my-cheek reaction.dan76 wrote:The Japanese trailer us up. That's a shame, especially since they appear to be leading the movie - but actors and acting have always been one of Abrams most significant weaknesses.
I'm not sure why - possibly the music choices - but everything about this movie seems overdramatised, like they're sort of recalling the original trilogy and emphasising the nostalgia for effect, instead of just playing it straight as the originals did. Maybe it's just the choice of cut.

So he got it perfect for Star Wars!Skykid wrote:shit awful acting.
It's gonna be the same basic movie as A New Hope with names of characters shuffled around. Much like Ghostbusters 2 was a Ghostbusters 1 remake.like they're sort of recalling the original trilogy and emphasising the nostalgia for effect, instead of just playing it straight as the originals did.
Good thing we're in it for the special effects and shared social zeitgeist. They're gonna pull in a ton of money on their product and it isn't going to be a crime against humanity like the Transformer movies are.
Hail Satan.
Secretly it's just Sesame Street with laser swords and jet fighters.Star Wars

Nah man, everyone knows that a two minute trailer represents an actor's entire acting capability in the 3+ hour film it advertises.

God I fucking love the prequels. Look at how much fun and joy they brought us even decades hence. Just like poetry, they rhyme.
Think how awful it would have been if they were just decent but otherwise unremarkable movies. Forgotten and dead forever.
It will be an alright flick!

You're watching examples of their performances. Is that not at least an indication?Lord Satori wrote:Nah man, everyone knows that a two minute trailer represents an actor's entire acting capability in the 3+ hour film it advertises.
I hope to be wrong. Unfortunately when I call these things from trailers I tend to be right 90% of the time (and I don't enjoy that much).
Prometheus. Never forget.

Your weekly reminder that there is only one good Star Wars movie and there can only be one good Star Wars movie.
Still looking forward to dumping 5 bux and 2.25 hours into this one though.
But sweet jesus.
2.25 hours. There better be some side boob in this one.

Oh god... even I noticed how awful that was. I'm looking forward to the new content, but I hope that either that scene is just an isolated incident and she's actually better, or that she's not featured through the entire film. Or at the latest, that she's only in this one and the others will be better.Skykid wrote:Extended scene:Skykid wrote:You're watching examples of their performances.
