seems a lot of hate for Japanese dramas, yet nothing for Korean. All Korean dramas deal with are love, love and wait you know what else? LOVE! At least Japan branches out. I though don't care if people here don't like them. But I have found myself getting only really into the comedy and crime stuff. I'm not a sappy man who needs to watch one love story after the other. If I want that there's Korean crap. But as for the Tv I've just watched, I finished off Season 6 of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 last night. Now its on to the crappy final season! :D

Monday Night Raw from yesterday. Time difference makes it today for us in Europe.

Great episode, final before the Royal rumble. Here's hoping WWE don't book the Rock to win the title. It would be such a slap in the face for the stars of today.

I finished watching Luther. It starts a bit slow and clunky but it quickly improves and the end of the first season is excellent. It has some great characters, and I really like the Luther / Alice relationship. Can't wait for more.

Also started Sons of Anarchy and The Tudors, both pretty interesting so far.

Luthor is now on my list. I couldn't get into SoA. Tried... Peggy Bundy is a MILF, I don't care what anyone says, but I still couldn't get into it.

Don't forget a loved one of the main character getting cancer.

Over the past month I've been watching Andromeda. I'd only seen some of the first few series before, so I decided to watch all 5 in one go. Impressions:

* The story started great, lost its way around series 3/4 and some of 5, but ended well. Apparently the original writer was ejected from the show for whatever reason, the new writer made it more episodic.
* I really liked the cast and characters, Kevin Sorbo was far more convincing as Dylan Hunt than Hercules.
* They could have done with less flashback episodes. One of my least favourite things in any series, I think each season had at least one, and I wanted to shout every time I had to see the fight from S1 EP1 on the Andromeda bridge again.
* It was much longer than I'd ever realised before, 110 or so episodes.

Happy I watched it, gets a thumbs up from me. It's not Babylon 5 but it definitely carved its own place in the history of TV sci-fi and the enthusiasm of the cast really shone through.

Yeah, it's kind of a poor man's Sopranos. They eventually branch out and do their own thing, though. It never becomes amazing, but remains a solid viewing experience.

For my part, I watched the final season of Fringe. Pretty big letdown.. I really enjoyed the previous seasons.

Also watched Homeland to see what the hype was about. Pretty good, although Claire Danes's character is pretty irritating until she loses it entirely. The only character I really liked was Saul. Overall, the series is kind of a cross b/w 24 & Sleeper Cell.

Yeah, same. Been watching it as it goes. Really liked previous seasons but with the exception of a few episodes, it's not really captured me this time around. Not awful, but not high caliber. Wish it was Showtime. They could've showed the daughter's tits or something to spice it up.

I liked it. Season 2 was great I thought. Some people argue that it went from psychological suspense to more action-based, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finally started watching The Wire. I really like it so far, just a few episodes in... and I've heard it only gets better! I like the mature and understated tone. An adult's drama for once. How the hell did this get made here?

The biggest problem with The Wire is that everything else seems inadequate after watching it. It very nearly didn't get made, simply because HBO felt the premise was too close to a generic cop show. Luckily they saw sense.

Yeah season 2 was definitely great. The show is at its best, IMO, when all the cards are on the table. The final episode, though, left a bad taste in my mouth. Made me sort of groan over what the probable plotline of season 3 will be.

Fingers crossed!

I'm taking all of my episodes of Children's Hospital to a friend's house tonight who seems to be having a Nervous Blakedown. Hopefully I can cheer him up using only the healing power of laughter. If you don't understand these words, then you should watch episodes 1 through current. In fact, I'm not even caught up!

Just started watching Portlandia and I think it's some of the best sketch comedy since Kids in the Hall. It probably helps that I live in a similarly weird city. You can watch it on Netflix Instant.

The Dream of the 90s is alive in Portland
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

The Americans on FX has quite a great pilot episode. Russian spies living as an all-American couple with kids in a suburb to D.C. in 1981.

Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe - Thursdays on some channel or other in the UK. A nicely cynical old bastard of a comedian comments on the weeks news, new games, films and so on. You may remember him from the Gameswipe show. It's on BBC iPlayer at the moment for those who can access it, highly recommended.

Started watching House of Cards - a Netflix original. I much prefer it over Boardwalk Empire, which I'd say is its closest kin. Apart from Kevin Spacey talking directly to the camera Saved by the Bell style, it's very interesting watching an LBJ-ish type rise to power. Guilty pleasure over my country's democracy being subverted, or working properly, depending on your point of view.

I don't know whether Netflix can continue to dance with the likes of HBO, but I quite liked Wilfred (so many awesome one-liners, despite a groan-worthy metaplot). Things seem to be going in a good direction.

Am I the only one looking forward to the new season of Psych at the end of this month? Currently watching season 6 and trying to get through that(even though I saw it when it was on tv) before season 7 starts.

Finally got around to watching Game of Thrones. Plowed through all of season 1 over a long weekend. Sure, it's still television and HBO television at that (being a hard rated R for no particular reason), but it manages to be (at least for me) unpredictable and constantly yanking an 'oh shit!' out of my throat. Sure, you could argue this is just Dark Souls soap opera, but fuck you! Maybe Dark Souls soap opera is what the world needed. As long as they don't kill he midget I'm all set.

I've got the first book sitting here, maybe I'll read that.

Caught some of that new Viking show on the History channel. It seems like it might be really good. I missed most of though because I was stuck on the phone at the time. The blind witch looked rather spooky.

My old lady got me watching Supernatural. It's got a pretty distinct monster-of-the-week formula, but the over arching story is enjoyable, at least until the end of Season Five. That's the logical conclusion to the series, but they kept it going and, despite the weird and improbable continuance of the storyline, still enjoyable despite the ludicrous nature of it.

I'm watching Spiral on hulu. It's a gritty french crime drama that makes Law and Order look like candy land.
It's serial, so the story slowly unfolds. Highly recommended if you like detective/legal/crime stuff and can stomach some heavy-ish graphic violence (not in the cheesy horror way, but in the "good god I'm glad I'm not a cop/medic/surgeon way").

Spartacus - Up to date - 9/10
Walking Dead - Up to date - 8/10
Banshee - Up to date - 8/10
The cult - Up to date - 7/10
The following - Up to ep3 - 8/10
Nikita - Somewhere in season 2 - 6/10

Overall, I like them all. With Breaking bad in July and Game of Thrones coming back at the end of the month. Its going to be awesome.

Nikita I let go because its just re-arranging the characters and there is only so many times I can watch machine guns hit nothing. The London episode was a joke, all they did was get American cars and put UK license plates on them and call it London.

Any of the jdrama lunatics catch anything from the most recent season?

最高の離婚 -- funny when the two couples weren't facing off and crying at the ground/wailing. Gangly, nerdy Eta's physical comedy was the star. The other show Eta starred in this season was also good (まほろ駅前番外地). The guy is a pro.

Image

From the vault-

結婚できない男 -- playing The Game of Life alone!

家なき子 -- feeling a strong Punky Brewster vibe here. A little thief/arsonist Punky Brewster who takes a whole lot of abuse - not an episode passes without her getting slapped around or tormented in some way. Tragedy and drama in all directions.

イグアナの娘 -- the atmosphere and B-movie comedy of this thing. Who says there's no quality in Japanese TV? Come on.

Trying out Alias (Netflix). I'm about 5 episodes in. Jennifer Garner is certainly easy on the eyes, but her acting range leaves something to be desired... Either cloying sweet, neutral/pissed (indistinguishable), or crying/crying while pissed.

Her character also sucks pretty badly at being a spy. Seriously, she gets caught every single mission. I know it's mostly to facilitate catfights and leggy roundhouse kicks, but still.
