Impressive. My appreciation for that title just went up by a ton. If I ever get around to making a Cave fangame it's gonna be THAT format for sure - the aced the whole fanservice thing there.
Also, first 'virtual' theme I've seen in a while that I actually like. The retro plastic glow ones that have sprung up lately haven't been my forte.

Deathsmiles iphone mode apparently has alot of fan service too. With cameo items or something.BPzeBanshee wrote:Impressive. My appreciation for that title just went up by a ton. It's rather silly actually, you basically fight all the characters from the game who have turned evil. And you buy armour and better weapons for your character. It's dum.

Yeah, Deathsmiles iOS read and looked like a gimmick to me with that item stuff (and I heard there's paid continues, as if we haven't doshed enough for the game itself). This on the other hand looks really good.

I'd really like to get Blissful Death, Deathsmiles and the Bug Princess games, but I'm afraid they'll look like shite on the new iPad 's screen. Come on Cave, get some 'HD' versions sorted out pronto!

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
They look fine. I wouldn't expect anything in the way of an upgrade for Blissful Death either since HD assets for that game don't exist in another release as with the other games. Also not sure how they'd handle an upgrade of Deathsmiles given the extensive IAPs in the game - a separate release would just screw over anyone who bought into the first game. Bug Princess is already a Universal app so I would hope they'd just implement HD assets in the existing version down the line.-SD- wrote:I'd really like to get Blissful Death, Deathsmiles and the Bug Princess games, but I'm afraid they'll look like shite on the new iPad 's screen. Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
I'm wondering how good these ports are, and if they're worth the money. Most iOS games are priced from $.99 to $4.99, depending on the title. Some larger-scale RPG titles are more, but I see DDP: Resurrection HD is $13.99! Holy cow. I've never been the world's biggest DDP fan, though I must ashamedly admit I still only have the original DonPachi for my Saturn. So for someone like myself who has only a moderate interest in "bullet hell" games, would $4.99 be worth my while for DDP Blissful Death? I am getting "the new iPad" as early as next Monday through work, and if I buy a game via my company account I'll have to reimburse. I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon, but of course, life is full of unexpected surprises. So is $4.99 for DDP BD or $6.99 for Espgaluda II HD Arcade worth my while? Are there any other iPad-ready shmups that I should consider first?

Other than the Cave games, I'm really liking Darius Burst -sp-. And yes, Esp HD and DDP:R HD are well worth the money.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
You -could- maintain separate Apple IDs to split up purchases made for work and personal stuff - you'd just have to sign off the store then sign back in whenever you want to buy something on the other account. The only things locked to a single sign-in is stuff like iCloud, iMessage, and Game Center (all of the above separate from the ID currently active on the Store).FRO wrote:I am getting "the new iPad" as early as next Monday through work, and if I buy a game via my company account I'll have to reimburse.

Cave have announced an update for Dodonpachi Blissful Death on the iPhone and iPad, scheduled for release on April 12th. For a limited time, some of the newly-added features to the game will be available at a discounted price until April 15th.

Some of those options seems like they'd have a big impact on scoring. I hope they'd keep separate leaderboards for the main game and for custom plays so that it's not like to get a competitive score you need to buy that stuff...

I wonder how many people will buy the bee license and never get to actually "use" it.

$x.99
Gives you a score of x0,000,000 in the leaderboard.

Milking the fans yet again I see. Shame, I thought this was the port that wasn't going to have the Deathsmiles Arrange items bullshit.

Advantageous DLC. So the game's basically ruined to my understanding.
Please tell me this surely isn't usable in conjunction with the online leaderboards...

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
Hmm I actually kind of like this. In the customize screen, they gave everyone the ability (WITHOUT ANY PURCHASE) to do many things, like:
+1 bomb
+2 lives
slow down w/ laser
spinning ship core for visibility
+1 laser power-up
+1 shot power-up
Then the in-app purchases just add levels to those above (except for the ability to purchase the second loop, make all bees visible, and slow down the counter timer).
I think it's great because it'll mean that you can compete on the 'custom' scoreboard without actually having to BUY anything.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
where is the "customize screen" with the free aforementioned options? not finding it anywhere -.... ><
FOUND it! Options , right lower corner CUSTOM (they have hidden it on purpose).
BTW is ddp resurrection HD worth it? the prices for HD version are killing me and the only difference i noticed between espgaluda and esp HD were player sprites, which certainly does NOT justifies very high price.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
I guess that when you do the custom bit, your scores are only saved locally. There is no new global leaderboard for custom play. Also, when you pause during a custom play session, on the bottom it is labeled 'free play'. During the game, there is always the text 'custom mode' on the bottom of the screen over the bee symbol. That way it is more difficult to make a video of your run without everyone knowing that you cheat.
As for DDP HD, I think it is worth it but I love that game. Everything looks better. The bosses especially look phenomenal in HD. I can't swear that the actual level backgrounds have changed much though.

dorelas, i think DDP HD only worth if you have ipad2/3, not iPhone. On small retina screen only font looks better, its difficult to see HD sprites with such dynamic game. I have no iPad and I have not choose DDP HD. BTW, you can download Lite version!

As long as the scoreboards are kept separate (or indeed there are no scoreboards, as someone here has said) then I don't have an issue with this kind of thing. If it encourages more people to experience the genre and - god forbid - gives a precariously positioned developer like Cave some extra revenue, then fair play. The core game is still there for us all to enjoy.

Damn how much more fun DOJ is with visible hitbox.
Why did cave start using visible hitboxes so late?
