As expected, there are a few gameplay differences between this port and the PCB. CPU lag seems to be a little heavier.

The auto hyper completely fucks any chance of playing for score as you would when playing the PCB.

This will hold me over until the 360 port. :)

You can turn that off in one of the menus.

I like it so far. It'll be loads of fun on the go. Nice sale price, too.

I think the auto-hyper will be ok in this format. I think it might be better than another button.

Missed clearing the first loop on my first arcade credit by the smallest bit. Hand started sweating on the spinning lasers and did me in.

Yay just leached a weak wifi signal from a cafe on my block for 25min to get this on my iPad.
Ahhh finaly!

1CC on my first try :). That will never happen again on a Cave game!
Bomb type, C class, 3bil

can't wait to try these other types and iMode, but my thumb gets kinda raw after a playthrough.

Cool to hear that it's only a $4.99 USD d/l off of the Apple store for four days only.

The current 8GB iTouch is not compatible (not enough memory.) If you're thinking of purchasing one I'd recommend holding off anyway, since there's a good chance new models will be out by mid September.

Yeah 1CC'd first loop arcade mode with a couple of lives to spare. Real easy. Seems the other loops are there as well though!

iPhone mode scoring is actually pretty cool (but I've only played it once). The more offensive you are the stronger your attacks, the more you "graze" the higher your multiplier (this seems to be the case I think).

Auto-hyper can be turned off. First thing I did when I went into options.

Disabling auto-hyper was a must for me.

I can now pull off the alternate mid-boss unlock and decent scoring.

Anyone finding themselves to be fairly ambidextrous with the touch controls? I used my left thumb playing ESPG2 but DFK defaults were the opposite and I had no trouble switching. Which thumb/finger do you guys use for movement? Have you tried both and did you notice a significant difference?

Gave iMode a try, not as cool as what they did with ESPG2's iMode which I thought was great. Spinning the ship for the big cannon seems a bit gimmicky.
I probably stick to Arcade Hard mode for a while - and arcade music is the lesser of two evils (well maybe that's too harsh).

There weren't power-ups in the PCB release either huh? Kinda strange, I wonder what's up with that.

Might be a dumb question.. but how have you got a screen cap of your iPhone??

I am having great fun with this game, even more than I thought I would but I have to admit, I have some control nags:

1. Your thumb gets right in the way when using laser. Many dumbass deaths because of this.
2. When your thumb gets in the way, the game gets confused where your control thumb is and jumps the ship across the screen (normally into a stray bullet)
3. The area to use laser is too small! I have to look away from the action to get it and still sometimes it doesn't work!
4. iPhone mode music sucks

Overall though it's got me super pumped for the 360 release. Even on hard mode though it's way easy. I normally can't come even close to a 1CC but after 3 goes I am almost there.

the top power on/off button and immediately press the front menu button, you'll hear it click.

You can adjust where the buttons are so you might wanna play around and see what works. I don't blame you though, the iPhone is a small device for this kinda game - probably why people mock it so much here. On the iPad however, it is truely righteous - a godsend for folks like me

Agreed. Both Espgaluda II and Dodonpachi play fantastically on the iPad. I do hope that they somehow release native support for it eventually, or at the very least Retina.

Its alright, but playing on a touchscreen while trying to hold an iPad sucks balls. I hate all this auto shot arse and bla bla too. And having 378 buttons on the screen. Give me actual controls any day.

Is there some way to turn off the auto-bomb? I'm playing in normal difficulty and I already disabled the auto-hyper, but can't seem to turn off the auto-bomb.

Auto bomb is a DFK thing, not necessarily an iPhone DFK thing.

I'm loving it so far. I turned off auto-hyper as well.

I do wish there was a way to simulate the slower movement when you're using a laser as opposed to shot. Or at least a different trade-off.

And the iPhone mode is pretty fun. I do find my finger/thumb gets annoyed at having to twirl around during the hyper mode, though.

And I don't know what's wrong with the music. I find it to be pretty good.

Agreed.

It's not as blurry as other iphone -> ipad games either. Is there a certain compatibility layer they add to make them look better?

I had a lot of fun with this, but I found the achievements. The achievements are pretty good too. I've only actually played DoDonPachi that I bought from PSN, so I don't know the ins and outs of how the scoring system has evolved, but it still seems pretty cool. I'm a little unclear as to what hyper-mode actually does aside from just shooting out more bullets. Is there something else to it?

I'm having fun with it. I'm not even going to complain. For 5 bucks, it's super fun on the go.

Auto everything is the way to go for me. I just can't be arsed to fuck with pushing these buttons in the middle of some heavy bullet dodging with my finger.

No complaints here for $5 -- the most I've spent on an app. Seems super easy so far (toilet gaming at work ftw).

I can manage to 1LC the first 4 stages. Stage 5's a real bitch, but that probably might be because I'm a first time player when it comes to DDPDFK.

Wish I can get to the second loop on English settings so I can see what the colonel has to say.
