Flippant nonsense. I respect and admire women to an extent probably far greater than many in this thread; but I recognise that their place has never been in philosophy so far (can you prove me wrong?). This is different from their place not being in philosophy ever, which is what icy seems to say (because their biological makeup prevents that). I don't think that it's impossible a woman will come along who can firmly hold a place next to Gödel, next to Russell, next to Wittgenstein, et cetera.

Unlikely is the word I'd use.

It was a clear reference to the alleged misogynism I displayed earlier in this thread. I know I can't expect too much skill in reading comprehension from an Edinburgh man, but try a bit harder before you reply in such a flagrantly retarded manner, yeah?

Incorrect, but believe as you wish. History will continue to show those who doubted and disparaged to be of little significance, whilst those who were doubted and disparaged were the luminaries.

Is casting yourself as a luminary not a delusion of grandeur?

I may be wrong but as far as I can see you whole contribution to society and humanity as a whole is a small gaming blog and forum very few people have good thing to say about.

Maybe my understanding of what makes a person a luminary differs from yours.

Of course it does. I already explained this. You are a doubter and a disparager of luminaries. Is the phrase ahead of their time unfamiliar to you? I rather doubt your understanding of most things is at all similar to my own.

As for gay people, again, you would be deeply unsettled, to say the least, if you understood what I (and Heraclitus, Nietzsche, Baudrillard, etc.) really think about them.

Whether this value judgement is correct or not is sometimes easy to discern (men vs. vermin) sometimes harder (men vs. gay males). In the end, only nature can be the final arbiter of the dispute, in the form of the evolutionary process.

Just wait for the books; they're set to radically change the way we think (those of us who are equipped to think, that is -- not the FUCKING RETARDS among us, who are destined to be forgotten, lol). Problem is, there are plenty of hoops to jump through on the road to publication. I envisage some serious tongue-biting on Icy's part when someone suggests a few revisions. MORON! IMBECILE!

A true luminary is neither doubted nor disparaged by me. You will also find I am clearly aware of what ahead of their time means. However I think you are correct in your assumption that my general understanding of things is very different from yours. I have no self delusional beliefs that what I do makes me transcend the common man. I do not hide behind the words of long dead philosophers in the belief that my understanding of their words makes me in some how better than the masses around me.

I suggest a re-evaluation of your entire belief structure. You are neither of this time nor of the future. You are a dinosaur, clinging to the words of others like a rat on a piece of flotsam discarded from a ship. As the ship pulls away continuing on its journey you sit upon your makeshift raft declaring to anyone who happens to appear in earshot that your way is best, that in the end your flimsy raft is better than the the ship and that those on the ship that cast you out are the fools.

Quite sad.

And this would be precisely where we differ. I know that I transcend the common man; this is not even controversial, it is quite an obvious assertion. If you were to share this thought (about yourself), then perhaps it'd be self-delusion. For me it is an axiom.

Publishers are often scared by that which they do not understand. This has been demonstrated through centuries. Sales are more important than insight; more's the pity, but so long as profound truths exist, they will be revealed in some form.

you're actually right on the publishers being scared bit but in this case i was more referring to his tendency to scream obscenities for paragraphs in all caps

this is what makes it constantly seem like he's simply a very invested troll. he's obviously smart enough to understand that his style is off-putting so if his goal were anything beyond inflaming people he wouldn't do it, i.e. if he really wanted to be heard he wouldn't use "fag" and "retard" because no matter how valid his point may be people will be disinclined to even consider it as a result, thus the only sensible conclusion is that this is in no way related to what he is trying to achieve

But Icy, you have previously stated that your books (the first of which was due some months ago, and the second right about now, according to your previous boastful ramblings on teh interwebz) would be published by mommy and daddy on their very own Greek publishing house.

What's the matter, have your parents decided that they don't want to drag the family name through the dirt by publishing your inane drivel? Or is the great big genius suffering from writer's block? The suspense of waiting for your wisdom is killing us, Icy. Please, we need your book - WHEN IS IT COMING???!?!?!?!?!?!

Such a grand claim should have some evidence to back it up. If the knowledge is there (that you transcend the common man) for you to understand then surely it should be available for the rest of us to make our own minds up on the subject? I personally see no proof of this claim. As a self declared luminary should you not share this knowledge with us?

I doubt such proof exists outside of your own delusional mind. Again I declare you a dinosaur and a charlatan and also suggest you think very carefully before committing you thoughts to text. It does you no credit and only brings further justified ridicule.

It's an axiom that he is more awesome than you. Your inability to grasp such a self-evident truth is evidence supporting the assertion that you're just too stupid to understand.

I gather that it's also an axiom that he is rubber and you are glue.

just becuase a publisher does not understand does not make the writings special. It could be that there just shit. Also they do background checks on people. forums are a good place to look these days.

so yeah whens the book out? Or is this all just a bunch of bullshit. Word to the wise, if i was getting a book published (god forbid) I would not go around telling any one until I was going though the presses becuase if it fails to get printed no one would belive you. there must be a million and one authors out there for every one that gets published. Good luck to him though. I dont like how he speaks to people but if he ovbiousley verry pasionate about his forum and blogging . . . I guess they used to call that writings back in the day.

an axiom actually needs to be accepted as truth so if we are all refuting that icy is a "luminary" then in fact it is not an axiom but just another self delusion grown in his private mind garden.

try a bit harder before you reply in such a flagrantly retarded manner, yeah?
doesn't the fact it was so flagrantly retarded ring alarm bells in your head that i'm just trying to wind you up. try hard is what YOU choose to do ,not what i do. i don't need to try hard because to paraphrase your good self i "know" i'm right. Why would i bother to put forth an argument when you are never going to change your mind and i already "believe" i'm right.

self belief is all good icy but only if you have the conviction. there's only room for one jesus on this forum and thats me PARALLEL JESUS

Haven't gotten around to reading all of the retardation spouted after my last post, but I'll address it in time. First off:
mdl wrote:he's obviously smart enough to understand that his style is off-putting so if his goal were anything beyond inflaming people he wouldn't do it, i.e. if he really wanted to be heard he wouldn't use "fag" and "retard" because no matter how valid his point may be people will be disinclined to even consider it as a result, thus the only sensible conclusion is that this is in no way related to what he is trying to achieve
I've given this priority because it's something that must be cleared up. I have stated already that content is more important than style, so this point is moot from the start, but I'd like to elaborate further -- I intend my writing to be off-putting and difficult to read. I want it to be abrasive, to make people cringe, to cause books to be thrown across the room. I want this exactly as (Søren) Kierkegaard did, exactly as, indeed, Nietzsche did. It's like an in-built filter to get rid of the untermensch before we truly get started. Those who see certain words ("fag" and "retard" being your two examples) and flinch away were never going to understand the rest of the words anyway. Fuck 'em.

Nota bene -- I realise I'm beginning to sound more and more like icy with each post (if you're intending to push me into a corner in order to extract that, then congratulations). I can no longer be bothered having to second-guess my words to avoid further irritating accusations of sockpuppetry. One more questioning of my identity and I'm gone.

back to what you were saying, the point is that there are much better ways to do it than simply tossing out words like that. if icycalm fancies himself an intellectual then he should know better and challenge people's thinking through his ideas rather than through crass hostilities
