Thunderforce VI announced by Famitsu for PS2 in 2008
The game these guys are talking about is Project Altered Beast on the PS2, which was a 3D adventure game. It's very different from the Sega Genesis Collection emu ports that you're referring to.zaphod wrote:Altered beast on ps2 was te crappy genesis version, and also the not as bad arcade version, as I recall. at least the one in the genesis colection.
Edit: misread the post. doh.zaphod wrote:Altered beast on ps2 was te crappy genesis version, and also the not as bad arcade version, as I recall. at least the one in the genesis colection.

Unfortunately, the arcade one is a botched port. Unnaturally loud sound effects when the hole opens up at the end of a level, improper background gray scale fading (it just turns into a solid field of gray, instead of a black and white version of the BG), and other problems. I was quite disappointed.BrianC wrote:Both the arcade and Genesis versions of Altered Beast are in the SEGA Genesis Collection for PS2. The arcade version is an unlockable. I like both versions myself, though I like the arcade one better. Arcade version has a neat tongue in cheek ending that isn't in the Genesis one.zaphod wrote:Altered beast on ps2 was te crappy genesis version, and also the not as bad arcade version, as I recall. at least the one in the genesis colection.
It's been a while and as i finally got to my laptop (after being very busy) and signed in i saw this announcement. Holy Shit was my initial reaction. Of course the skeptics drew near. I dont give a f_ck, this is TF! and thats all that matters. This will make my summer go a little smoother.
Well after a more careful look, all i can say is SEGA please dont let me down!

TF VI story is something that i want to know too. It should be back to the people of Milkyway Federation ^^.
I does hope they would bringback some of the best aspect from TF IV like the overlaping screen, enemy`s AI reaction toward our ship`s condition, and significant difference between each difficulty level.
And i do hope that 6 stage would as long as Gradius V`s stages ( though i enjoying the 10 stage of TF IV ^^

Maybe you guys have more luck downloading the video. I just can't get the download to start.

Thanks for the mirror/youtube URLs.
I'm glad the explosion effects, bullets and lasers aren't as bright and distracting as the first few screenshots made them out to be.
Not Border Down visibility, but good enough.
I hope SEGA bothers to improve the graphics a bit. Most of the ship's weapons are just bright blue and white. Looks kind of dull.

Doesn't bother me the least actually. This looks like the normal bullet count for a Thunderforce game on default difficulty. And at least 3's and 4's stages worked surprisingly well with little to no enemy fire (Ellis, Haides, Air Raid, Daser etc.)MX7 wrote:moozooh wrote:where are the enemy bullets?

Well, well, now that was something nice. I liked the trailer but:
I STILL feel this looks like Ether Vapor 2... Can't scratch that doujin game feeling and also why I'm starting to feel a bit annoyed that they'll charge full price for it but, well, this better keep the genre alive.
Seems they are going for a 'flashier' attempt to catch non-stg fans? Due to those camera angles I assume this will be more like Gradiukaruga Force VI mixed, again, with all the camera switching from EV.
What I liked the most was the music. Even if it isn't Tsukumo, at least it brings back the damn guitars/riffage and an overall rock sound instead of the boring, generic techno pum-pum-punchi-punchi we have to deal nowadays (sorry, not a fan of techno...) I mean, it's a freaking shooter where we are blasting spaceships and surreal monsters with all guns blazing, not a damn night club. Of course, others might differ and instead think the rock sound is the generic one. To each their own I guess.
It could use a texture update...
Won't these guys ever release this thing for PC? Perhaps fans could crack it to improve textures and make it look out of this world without the limitations of a PS2.
edit: I forgot the most important thing, guys.
FREE RANGE FEST!

They had me at the slowly-scrolling titles. It looks and sounds lot better in action than I thought it would, too. The more traditional pulsing fire sound of the Twin Shot got my attention real quick.
Well, it's there, but I might just be willing to let it slide this time.Observer wrote:FREE RANGE FEST!
