I agree that we need to catch a break from the kind of stuff we've had so far, but picking a game without a scoring system and then playing it for score will be a recipe for disaster. Or immense boredom.
Agreed.
If I remember correctly, Viper didnt have much of a scoring system at all (barely played it, could be wrong), which already didnt make too much sense.....
And now, looks like it'll either be a game based entirely on survival, for Gunbird, or Darius, where the route system alone would be annoying, not to mention the holy-crap-I-hate-it "boss milking" *exasperated sigh*.
Gunbird I'd actually give a real attempt.
But Darius? Likely I'd just yell at it for about an hour, break something in the process, and just post whatever score came outta that. I wont do the damn milking. I just wont. I get bored just WATCHING it on assorted superplays for games that require it; DOING it would put me to sleep. Usually I just skip past those parts in vids like that.
It's not a bad game, not at all, but SCORING in that, takes a level of patience I dont even try to have.
So then, my vote is for GUNBIRD.
I've the distinct feeling it wont matter, though.

Current Count from digging through the thread (assuming I didn't miss something)...
Vasara= 11
Darius Gaiden= 36
Gunturd... er, -bird= 32
BBA= 6
BBN= 0
Section Z= 1
Edit: I checked again, and I came back with DG-35, and G-30 (now 31 with the vote below my post). So it's somewhere in there

Is the autofire setting in Taito Memories port faster than the Taito Legends 2 port?
And can another confirm Saturn and PS1 ports have slow autofire?
(compared to TM & TL?)
Also told you can't turn off autofire in PS1 port.
thanks in advance
(if Edge has his own ruling from '06, nevermind)
And if Edge doesn't have a ruling soon, I'll compare autofire of TL2 with rom after work. Couldn't get the game to run beforehand.

Well, I haven't played any versions besides the Saturn one, so I have nothing to relate to, but the Saturn version does have a really slow auto-fire (as in, I can mash quite a bit faster, which... is really quite sad. I can't even mash faster than VP1 in-game auto-fire setting... about even I'd say)

I don't own a Darius Gaiden port to compare Auto Fire rate. Which would still be pretty difficult. Since there are many ports out there, with possible different auto fire rates.
Therefore I think we might skip the fire-rate restriction. This might handicap the concole-only players a bit. But they could still use external devices to even the conditions. And if I am not mistaken Japanese top players also use cabs with built-in auto-fire buttons.
Even if it makes the game easier than probably designed in the first place. Which is the original argument about the legitimation of auto fire.
But since the majority of the comunity seems not that much concerned about this issue. I think we can also use a free adjustable fire rate, unless it totally breaks the game. I don't think it does that in Darius Gaiden, but if I am mistaken, please say so. That we can add a fire rate restriction.
Any objections? Then speak now or be quiet forever.
EDIT:
A general rule about which ports are legit for the STGT:
All ports (handhelds excluded) are accepted if not otherwise stated. Small differences between the ports is something we can take to get a wider accessibilty. Just ports with heavy differences in regards of scoring (Mars Matrix) are not accepted.

There's a code to activate autofire for the Saturn version.Arvandor wrote:Well, I haven't played any versions besides the Saturn one, so I have nothing to relate to, but the Saturn version does have a really slow auto-fire (as in, I can mash quite a bit faster, which... is really quite sad. Given that Progear was rudely ripped away from us, it's probably best that DG won. Playing Gunbird after Dragon Blaze last year-- that would be quite a step backwards. And I would have to hear endless complaints about my beloved Psikyo.
Still, I do wish we were playing Gunbird. As someone who loves the Sonic Wings formula, I don't mind that Gunbird barely moves beyond it.
