It's a haunting psychological meditation on the death of a child and the way it effects a marriage, told through the lens of a Giallo film.
Along all too similar lines for iconic 70s film. 3: Shelley Duvall, 75, bless. Image

Not only Shelley Duvall, but the kid from the TV show Alf, Benji Gregory as well, dude was only around 46 when he passed.

Kubrick really broke Duvall all those years back with The Shining.

Saw this interview a long time ago and again just yesterday: NYC movie critic Gene Shalit interviewing Shelley Duvall in 1981 about Time Bandits; they talk about The Shining and Popeye too.

https://www.today.com/video/from-1981-s ... 4665285503

Gene Shalit seems to not get the title of Time Bandits as he keeps calling it just Bandits.

During Summer 1989 I was living and working in Manhattan and came across Gene Shalit stumbling drunk hanging on to a 16 year old girl — clearly his date (or in this instance, caretaker) for the evening — walking up a street near/in/around Greenwich Village. One of a handful of celebrity sightings over the years out and about in NYC. Always such a character with mustachio and bit of weird hairdo — and a decent movie critic too.

Shmups Deadpool news just breaking @ around noon US Mountain Time Saturday 7/13/2024 —
Dr. Ruth Westheimer has passed — another NYC celebrity (although ultimately much more famous than Gene Shalit). Can remember well when “Sexually Speaking” took off and became very popular as a NYC based radio show. What a wonderful human being — so open minded, thoughtful and well spoken! Always enjoyed hearing her dispense her sexual therapy wisdom with a strong German accent and a bit of Yiddish here and there, and always laughing/chuckling/giggling in ways that were thoroughly genuine but also helped ease tension/dilute awkwardness between herself and her callers: ”Dr. Ruth Westheimer for Sexually Speaking, caller — you are on the air…”

couple of edits for spelling and clarity

Fuckin hell. Was about to remark how good he looked for his age, then realised I'd mixed him up with Geraldo all these years. >_> Iconic name, regardless.

Alain Delon, also 88. Only became aware of him relatively late, unforgettable impression though. Coulda seen him making a decent Bond even if it'd be sacrilege in ol burighty.

via Bronson/Mifune/Ursula Andress vehicle Red Sun, of all things. Quite the international cast there. Actually a pretty decent film, despite the obvious marquee gimmick angle.

Also deserves credit as one of the few high-profile media figures to speak out against the Iraq invasion in real time; cost him his job at MSNBC.

Ah, man - I totally mixed him up with Maury's lot. (mucho manloves @ Maury but y'know >_>) I actually remember that "inconvenient anti-war face" memo from bitd; just not the man it was unintentionally commemorating, in its bleakly signal way. Fine show. Image

I was remarking a couple weeks back after watching Le Samurai that it was incredible he still lived. Most old French actors died of cigarettes a long time ago. When looking into it, I discovered that there was some shadiness surrounding Delon's family situation and that he was stuck in petty disputes over his wealth and health by his children. There was a trial set for next year to resolve it.

Association football legendary coach [urlhttps://football.fandom.com/wiki/Sven-G%C3%B6ran_Eriksson]Sven-Göran Eriksson[/url], 76. I support the team from the other shore of the Tiber river, but he coached Italian Lazio club to a near-miraculous championship and several other miracle wins; he was also the architect of the late 1980s-early 1990s glorious Sampdoria team ("Italy's second team" of the time).

He was a club coach; his work with national teams did not reach particularly high levels. He also coached AS Roma in the 1980s, so the authorities seem to be mulling over a farewell ceremony for this legend. Fun fact: being Swedish, Italian fans somehow mistakenly assumed that he was supposed to be an taciturn introvert or something (stereotypes etc.).

As a kid, I remember that he had a habit to offer thorough and articulate answers in each tv interview, to the point that tv hosts would later ask him: "Sven, a one-minute answer, please"
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

I.M. Banks, "Consider Phlebas" (1988: 43).

The Master and Ruler of the World.

Found out about his passing from an old friend who used to live by me (he lives in Texas now), mentioned it over Facebook. He told me long ago that when he lived in West Memphis, Arkansas, he had a job at an IGA supermarket over in Memphis, Tenneesee, and he used to bag Sid's groceries, and when he saw Sid years later, Sid recognized him (word is, Sid was a very, very nice guy).

I had that impression of him, nice to hear firsthand. Seemed like a regular dude, especially with all the mad stories around his contemporaries. I always remembered an interview around the infamous leg injury, where he talked about getting to spend more time with his family during rehab. Was surprised at the time, given his persona.

Makes me think of Allen O'Neil from Metal Slug, haha. Towering goliath who'd come back from the worst misfortunes for his wife and kids.

Sid might not have been the most technically accomplished wrestler, but dude definitely had a presence, and I legit cannot imagine that era of wrestling without him.

Losing him and Kevin Sullivan in such a short amount of time is pretty jarring.
