thanks ptg! yeah i'm on the mend now and this has made me feel awesome!!!
Hey man, sorry I've been gone for a bit! School does that to me, at the moment. Hey, congratulations on this! I knew you could do it! Funny, since last time, I was talking about that, and right after, you pulled it off! What will you do next, now that you've finally done this? :)

Everyone else here did a fine job as well! Keep it up! Also, I know you'll pull that Espgaluda II clear off, Lilium, knowing you!

Thanks purple! Yeah, I couldn't believe I got it that soon after we just talked about it! Took about 4 to 5 weeks from clearing x mode to get this ( although it felt longer! ) it's easily my hardest clear yet, I'm still buzzing from it! :D

Well, my only two goals this year were to try and clear batrider and progear. I cleared batrider on a weekend break from ketsui, so progear will be my next mission. I don't mind if I don't pull it off before Christmas as it's been such an incredible year for me as far as my playing goes, I've cleared more games than ever and ones I've never dreamed of clearing, ketsui being at the top!

Cleared Darius Plus. As my introduction to the Darius games, it was less obnoxious than I expected and I enjoyed it a lot - except that my entire run comes down to whether or not one specific satellite dish snipes me in zone P and leaves me stuck with a laser against the last stage/boss. :(

I grabbed Dariusburst SP for my iPad and I'm liking it a lot, especially for a touchscreen shmup. Kind of makes me want to grab the PSP version.

Yes, and I see I neglected to say that.
So I looked and it was Arrange Novice.

And I don't care I'm still proud of doing it on ultra!

Futari technically doesn't have a Novice version of Arrange mode. It's just Novice mode on Ultra.

It's a bit confusing because in the selection screen, Arrange and Novice are both listed under the submenu "Arrange".

Got my first "2cc" last night on Bullet Souls Infinite Burst with my girlfriend. Rules for the 2cc were: game running default settings, 1 credit per player, both players must survive and clear. Really fun and interesting way to play shmups if you have a partner with the proper skill level.

She has been playing the game for a while after taking an interest while watching me playing. I taught her the system and scoring and after quite a bit of practice she got the 1cc yesterday afternoon (her first shmup 1cc) and ranked an impressive 26th on the leaderboards. We gave the 2cc a go after that and were able to clear it in a single try. I think, I'm going to have to try this out with some other games too, it's really a great way to play.

Also: Play Infinite Burst, it's a really great game especially for scoring. One of my favorites on 360 in fact. Don't let the mediocrity that was Bullet Souls Vanilla steer you away from it.

Not a shmup in the narrower sense, but I 1cc'ed Super Dropzone for SNES yesterday while being asleep.

That game always felt like a complete nightmare as a kid. And it still does! Good thing I can now throw the cartridge out of the window after burning it down with fire whilst shooting out deadly green lasers out of my mouth.

1 billion PCB Lunatic

Finally managed to score past a billion in PCB. Made more mistakes than I would like to, but I was a bit rusty when I did this. Could probably score higher due to the mistakes that happen in stage 4. Pretty much worked on this whenever the urge to play PCB comes to me. I was listening to PoDD while I was doing this and felt I had to record with it in the background.

Just out of curiosity, Plasmo, how many stages are there in this Super Dropzone?
Do you know if this version differs somehow from the PS1?

There are four moons with 10 stages each. Then you get to fight the final boss on Jupiter. The game gets rather easy when you make yourself invisible while using the special weapons. Otherwise especially the main bosses can be a pain.

I don't know anything about possible version differences. :|

I just 1CC'd Original, Maniac and God modes of Bug Princess 2 Black Label for iOS back to back. They definitely made things easier, but with the tricky controls and unrestricted speed, it makes sense.

OMG, I DID IT!
It's been a bit more than a year since I discovered this awesome genre that is shmups and I've been playing a lot of titles on and off, changing to some other game when I got frustrated after a certain amount of time.
But today I did it. I beat Futari 1.5, with no lives left and no bomb in stock, my hands went into the air and I started shouting. Soso awesome!
Well, I took this as an occasion to sign up here, since I've been lurking this forum quite a bit.

Image

Other 1CCs are Batrider Normal and Futari BL Original, but they don't feel like such an achievement.
Dunno what my next game will be, I want to clear Batrider Advanced though.. some day...

That score doesn't look too bad for a run with no lives left. Good job :3

Got my second 2P coop 2cc last night in Shienryu Explosion. Not really challenging as long as both players know the 1cc. It took us (ashygal and I) two tries because I somehow managed to chain die 3 times near the end of our first run. She got to the end of it without me, but both players gotta survive for it to be a 2cc (at least according to my rules).

Anyhow trying to think now what else is good for a 2cc. Darius Burst ACEX is definitely on the list, but my arcade that has it is like 2 hours away. So as far as console games go, anyone have any recommendations for shmups that work well in coop?

Pick something that has specific benefits for Coop? Some of the later Raiden games give you extra bullets when you're both shooting and near each other. Score Rush MP is playable on a computer, as well as has an Xbox Indie version (the PC is more updated and has a slow movement button - it also works with Xbox Controllers, though for multiplayer you need to play online). Decimation X3 works too.

Espgaluda and Esprade both have bombs where you can use them to actively protect each other by holding down the bomb button. Strania for Xbox is also a lot of fun in co-op, though it doesn't have any real direct co-op interaction mechanics. Giga Wing 2 has a combined score coop mode if you have a Dreamcast.

Jamestown was pretty much designed with co op in mind over single player.

IIRC Salamander on Nes is kinda fun.

Never heard any word on it, but I remember the developers saying that the polarities in Dimahoo were designed around co op. Might be worth a shot.

Might not fit your definition of shump, but the first SFC Kiki Kaikai is excellent in co-op. Really lends itself to teamwork in both its stage design (good to have your back covered during the frequent encirclements) and mechanics (one player can block/reflect while the other attacks). Not a pushover either, it's a pretty substantial challenge even on defaults. Despite the unbearably cute style it's deadly serious about the topdown shooting! Airtight controls and lovely presentation as per Natsume's usual 8/16-bit standard.

Shock Troopers is great along much the same lines, but it's MVS so technically only console if you've a Supergun or other means of running the cart. edit: it's also on the PS2/Wii SNK Arcade Classics Compilation, no idea if it's in good shape there though.

Gradius V is pretty awesome when playing co-op, I'd definitely give that one a shot. Or Gradius Gaiden.

And speaking of Gradius V, I recently finished clearing 5 loops in a row playing score attack, in my quest to get 2nd place on the scoreboards here. I didn't record loop 1-3, but I did record loop 4 and onward.
Loop 4
Loop 5 & 6

I still can't really believe I made it that far, my goal was to clear loop 4 but I managed to scrape by and clear loop 5 as well. This game is really a test of endurance, this run took nearly 6 hours when all was said and done.

Not a clear, but good progress (for me at least) made the first stage 5 mid boss on daioujou black label after 3 days of committed play. I never managed to find this game fun and was just too damn hard, so I used to give up at the stage 3 mid boss... It's still brutally hard but for the first time ever feels fun and possible... Eventually! This is gonna take a lot of work...

Muchi Muchi Pork version 1.00 1-All. Not that I feel very accomplished with this because it had way too many misses in stage 4 and 5, but it's the first time I've cleared the game on version 1.00.

NMNB the game up to the stage 3 boss. No Miss it but used way too many bombs. Had a lot of deaths in Stage 4 including an intentional because I had used way too many bombs on Stage 3 boss, so I no longer had a shot of no missing the game. Then a bunch of stupid mistakes with bombs in stock. Then the stage 4 boss decided to be a dick in the second phase and only use the attack where it shoots the green pattern from both parts and not the double blue or even 1 blue and green. Then of course I'm terrible at the final phase as well.

Then I completely mess up stage 5 in terms of survival as well.

And 94 million seems way too low of a score. I know I should be able to get higher than that in the first loop, but I really don't know stage scoring routes. I know I probably can't expect to beat my 1.01's 115 million first loop due to the different lard shot mechanics, but still that seems pretty low.
