Is it just me, or does the game not allow you to enter your initials once it's game over? It never brings me to a name-input screen and all of my scores just say CAV for initials.

Yeah, it's the same as a bunch of the recent Cave ports in that regard.

Yeah, SDOJ rules. I can't imagine being a fan of Cave and not loving this game, unless you hate the entire DDP series. Massive step up from DFK imo, and one of Cave's purest games. I really enjoy it, port problems notwithstanding.

I'm playing with a worn out stick on a TV (vs usually PCBs on my cab) so I can't really tell. Buttons feel slightly laggy but I haven't tested it much, like when survival bombing I don't know if I'm just being slow (probably) or if there's some lag there.

For people having trouble with this game's crazy difficulty, I propose the following solution:

Play as Saya.

No, really. Holy shit, she makes the game so much easier. The prevalence of slowdown you get from stage 3 onward is reminiscent of MushiFutari Black Label.

I hope that the excessive Saya slowdown isn't one of the things that gets fixed in the patch, because for the moment she's my favorite way to play the game. :V

Saya is great, but I hate the 360 mode.

I'm still learning how to play arcade mode without too much dying.

You have earned enough coins to buy her already? I'm still 2500 away. I guess I should try to play challenge mode more often.

Call me an idiot, which shop icon unlocks her? There is a ??? one without a price, is that her? I don't have 3000 coins yet, close though!

Also, if it takes pressing the analog stick to access her in the character select screen, I'm shit out of luck playing with a cab. Unless maybe I can use a second player controller.. unlikely.

You know those Cave guys are laughing about some of this shit over some beers.

"Oh oh, and how about make the training menus impossible to navigate when they use full screen tate mode!"

As a casual shmupper I want to say that this game is brilliant. I love the fact that I can have a great time on 360 mode and use that mode to help me get better in Arcade. If all I had was Arcade, the difficulty would soon put me off. This game is right up there with Mushi 1.5.

I think novice and 360 mode combine to make a very solid progression up to arcade/1.5's brutal difficulty. My problem with novice though is that there's so few shots sometimes that I fall out of the zone and get picked off by easy crap. I made it to lolibachi in 360 mode and not in novice mode, lol.

I'm pretty sure it says 3,000 coins in the shop. But that one is her.

I bought her today and got #1 on the novice laser leader board. Out of seven players, heh.

Did a nice relaxing 360 Mode Shot-type 1cc over lunch. Its the perfect mode for when you just feel like chilling. I seriously love the ending of this game, that loli despair gets me every time , and Heading for Tomorrow is such an awesome ending theme too. I went ahead and pre-ordered Zwei's single; it's pretty cheap at 1300 yen including shipping on Amazon. If only the opening theme could have been half as good as the ending.

So, is there any news on when the patch will hit?

I've only made it to lolibachi, still haven't gotten the 360 clear. I think it's actually easier than novice mode, though, if you're using shot type. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Who you guys playing as? I think the blue ship looks the coolest, but I'm actually worst with it. I think the green laser looks the lamest, but I'm best with it, so I mostly play Green.

Inbachi really isn't free even on shot type. I had to practice a bit before I finally got all the patterns down. But once you more or less have it memorized its easy because even if you make multiple mistakes you can recover with your hyper, in fact on that easy pattern where she shoots the slow criss-crossing vertical lines of red and blue bullets you can point blank her basically the whole time and build/use hypers. That one pattern can effectively be turned into 5000 energy.

I'm actually the opposite of you on the ship styles in the main game, I think the The Green ship is totally awesome looking, I mean its a freaking space helicopter! But I suck with it, and I'm much better off using the Blue ship. I don't really care though, I'm shallow so I'll just keep dying beautifully with the Green ship till the end of time.

If I feel like trolling the game, I play Saya (the secret purple D type). In case you don't know this yet, you can play her in Arcade/1.5 if you buy her in the shop for 3,000 coins. If I'm being more serial, I go with the red A type. Because, boobs.

You can't argue with that labcoat

I'm not big on Linear shot types in anything I play though. In most of the old DP games I used Type-C. Whats actually the best for scoring though? I always just assumed it was easier to maintain a chain with Type-C. I'm guessing in reality though it depends on the game.

A-Type. With spread shots it's harder/impossible to keep popcorn alive when you need to bridge chains.

Are you playing novice with the expert ship? I thought was a decent balance that way.

My SDOJ has arrived in a box that looks like its been sat on, so I've decided not to open it yet and just left it in the corner. Also I have a crappy cold so I can't be bothered to get out of bed.

And I have no Xbox 360, so no rush.

Got my 2 SDOJ SLEs from Playasia today. No customs! (Lucky me!)

This game is amazing but hard as nails. I played 3 runs on every mode and could only get to stage 3 (with autobomb off). The soundtrack is very good, the visuals are beautiful and the little extras like the shop are just the icing on the cake.

I'm very happy with this release. At least the Super Limited Edition feels like a limited edition with the artbook, the OST and the huge badass box.

I could swear I had slight input lag on my arcade stick but I have to check again.

Guys this game is the real deal!

Opened it. Bar a couple of minor dings on the corners, pretty much mint considering it looked as though the transit box had been used as buttock apparatus by Cheng Sinzan.

It is big isn't it? Pics and YT vids don't prepare you for the mammoth tome that you lift out of the bubblewrap. A pretty excellent LE package, definitely the best since Akai Katana Limited.

The artbook is well produced too, although on inspection, Nagi Ryou really hasn't done a very good job with the art. The in-game clothes switching portraits are fine, but a lot of the promo art looks... kind of rushed. Often a tad amateurish, even.

Funny thing is, he's done a lot of work that seems stylistically a lot more accomplished than the SDOJ stuff (according to Google). Maybe the deadline Cave gave him was too tight?

Anyhoo, nice send off for many years of X360 shmupping glory, props to Cave for splashing some cash on their lolibash.

Now I need to find someone round here with a console...

The green ship works so well for me because I use the laser a lot, so popcorn enemies have a chance to build up sometimes, so it's helpful to be able to aim my shots and take out ones that get too close and far down the screen.
japtor wrote:Are you playing novice with the expert ship? I thought was a decent balance that way.
Nah, I mostly play v1.5 Laser and 360 Shot. Novice expert is a cool mode, but it seems p much as difficult as v1.5 normally is. The bosses are easier but the stages are harder, which is actually a pretty cool compromise, because it seems like in the main game the bosses are easily the hardest part. So it feels slightly more balanced in that regard, but also kinda... doesn't feel novice?
