My god stealthlurker, wtf is wrong with you?! Think about the children dammit, THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!

Srsly though, I regularly try to shed stuff from my collection. I live in a small flat and all the cupboards are inhabited by games, and my folks have a cupboard with some of my stuff in it too.
There are times when I actually feel claustrophobic about my collection (weirdly) and I have nagging pangs to just let the whole lot go before it ends up owning me.

I want to go travelling and leave the country, and having a fairly large amount of games does make that tough as they'd need to be stored so I can rent my property.

Your collection makes me feel a lot better in that respect, but I have to know, don't you ever have a sort of self-loathing over the indulgence? I do, and you have a shedload more to feel guilty about than me. :o

Either way, it's a remarkable collection, but you're either nuts, loaded, or OCD - or all of the above. At least sell the doubles! :)

I hope you have automated sentry guns outside the front door of your house too.

Haha yeah, I'm a "bit" of a pack rat. In terms of space, I own several properties now (here in the States and abroad). At my primary residence, I live alone at a 3 bedroom house with garage, etc etc. I would shed duplicates, but I'm a bit lazy in terms of making trips the post office and what not. I've always been a collector of things since childhood and up to today. Not only with games, but quite a few other things.

One thing that surprises people when they come over is that don't know I collect games (except when they see the garage with arcade stuff). Most of my collections are tucked away in cabinets/closets where they're out of view. It gives the place a less "cluttered" feel and helps clear my mind, set a mood of serenity, etc etc. That way if it's time for games or whatever else I "collect"... ok, but if not it's out of sight out of mind.

@Arasoi

That's freakin awesome. Those scitron videos are really nice. I've actually never seen a showdown 2 scitron laserdisc. The cover art is really nice too. Seems more in line with spirits 3 than 2 which makes it more unique.

As for the cabinets, they're all from ikea. The second set actually were "wardrobe" closets on clearance. I modified them with some shelves. I liked them because they were very deep for maximum storage properties.

Ah, it makes sense now. Basically, you're single and loaded, that explains it then. :)

One day when I upgrade from flat to house, then it'll be a weight off my mind - just having my collection in a separate room would be a big relief. As it stands I do tend to feel somehow cramped just knowing that they're in the few cupboards we have here (even though they're not visible).

And I'm not single either. No pressure from her to flog my stuff, but making time for everything isn't easy.

I'm trying to think of a good reason why hoarding so much without even opening it is a good thing.

I have 200 games I think, however they were bought and played and stored. Not bought and stored. I suppose they make great photographs though :?:

It isn't. He isn't bragging though, else he would have gone to the trouble of purchasing a camera that wasn't sewage.

It's the same sub-human logic that entices people into TATE'ing their LCDs; people are easily satisfied in the art of "doing", but not in the art of "making do with".

I see a lot of these people on Youtube, actually. They're abso-fucking-lutely obsessed with the "finding, acquiring, bragging" process. No gameplay footage or actual content beyond "appreciating the genre" by collecting out-of-print material, where the original sources see absolutely no profit or support, and where the eBay sellers and Yahoo! Japan sellers see all of it.

I'm not advocating piracy or claiming game purchases are irrelevant. But when purchasing them becomes your only priority, you're out of the hobby. I like to call them "post-gamers", because that's what they really are. I'm pretty sure I went through this phase a few years ago, during the late PS2 period (2006-2008). I'm not sure if I've completely come out of the phase of collecting myself, but what I do know is, selling off a game collection is more trouble than what it's worth. I now make purchases after asking myself if I ever have the intention to sell. If the answer is yes, I don't bother buying them in the first place.

They're not "sealed" by the way. I have little baggies from ebay in which they're wrapped for shelf wear. They're also useful for holding the obis in place.

Thanks! I've been ripping and uploading to youtube all the ones I get if you want to watch them, I actually have a thread going on here in OT with links to my vids as they go up. I'll have Shin Samurai Spirits up today probably :)

This arrived today, a new old stock never worn officially Nintendo licensed Zelda hat, from 1990. I love how big and goofy it is, I feel like a nerdy 80s/early 90s trucker.

That would be a terrible thing :x ...but I have a feeling his games aren't sealed, just bagged.

Still, it does perplex me seeing that motherload. There's just no way you can properly play or give time to that lot - has it become more a hobby of acquiring than playing Stealthlurker?

The day I buy and don't play is the day I sell the whole lot. That's not gonna happen tho. Hopefully.

Picked up a copy of After Burner II for the Saturn a while back, finally showed up. Seller's pic. Absolutely rock-solid port, I need a flightstick now though.

I do find enjoyment in the hunt. Especially for titles I consider pretty good/great/etc that I wasn't already familiar with or there's little to no public info about them on western sites. I'd say it's actually a combination of the hunt and exploration.

It's true it gets to the point where the practicality of trying to set aside quality time to fully appreciate them is not feasible, but that really doesn't bother me much. I know that it can be really tough for some people to accept and or understand, but lots of things are that way.

Well personally I can't fathom that. For me the most exciting thing after the exploration, the hunting and the acquiring, is knowing I'll get to play the thing when it lands in the letterbox. It helps that I try to avoid console emulation pretty much full stop - there's nothing like playing a game for the first time on the original hardware.

I'm sad to think all that lot doesn't get much playtime, but whatever drives you I suppose. :(
At least you're not a sealed game collector.

Which DS do you prefer in the flesh, the black or blue? Honestly, I'm not much of a fan of either at the mo.
