Shmup Ticker: What are you playing RIGHT NOW?

Mostly Mushi Futari (original mode) trying to get my Palm score past 300mil. Been playin' other shmups here and there: Raiden I, Flying Shark, Gradius IV (I just played a few credits one night recently last week,) Zaxxon and tried Genetos and Crimzon Clover. Futari is awesome though, on that note, I've been trying not to burn myself out on it.

Einhander. Haven't played this in a while. I only kind of suck. Not nearly as bad as when I first started playing ages ago, but...
[I have already given up on Delta, that one friggin ship with all the turrents kills me so much, despite the rest of the stage being totally manageable...]

The purple midboss ship? Its bullets can box you in pretty easily if you're in the wrong part of the screen. Wait until it's entered from the upper-left, then move in a clockwise motion starting from 3 o'clock, drawing its fire. Charge a beam as you do, destroying its lower turrets on your way around. Once you've made it to 11 o'clock and it's reached the right edge of the screen, you should be able to block or dodge anything it throws at you, until it's dead.

There's a nice 1CC demonstration on the Dreamcast disc that serves as great reference, especially for boss battles.

Gradius Galaxies. Is it blasphemy to say this is my third favourite in the series after Gaiden and V?
Also dipping in and out of X Multiply, which is a pretty recent discovery for me. Great game. Is that white liquid actually breast milk? I ask because the game takes place in a woman's body, but that long-necked monster that emerges from it shoots sperm-looking things out of its mouth.

Yeah, it's totally not a good idea to have sex with a patient while there is a shmup vessel within her body - it may shoot off the dick! Why? Because it's Irem game

Got my Ibara PCB the other day, so I've been messing with that. So much easier on the eyes than the PS2 port. Now I just gotta wrap my head around actually using bombs in a shmup for once

DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou. Sucking a bit, mostly in the first level, died really stupidly twice. Got midway through the second before I died while trying to get a hyper [and if I didn't go for it, I'd have still been killed there].

I love this game. I let a good friend borrow it since he loves the Gradius series and has never played it, so I haven't been able to play it lately. I'm happy to see more love for this game.

I've been playing Deathsmiles a bit and Gradius V. I'm doing terrible, but I'm loving every minute of it.

Currently going between Dragon Blaze, Metal Black and Garegga, in that priority. Just properly getting to grips with both verts for the first time (decent controller, finally) and revisiting an old favourite with MB.

Partly due to being more familiar with MB than the other two, but switching between it and either vert is nowhere near as disorienting as DB vs BG, and I mean that in a good way. "Headbutt everything that moves to death" vs "Every shot counts, no, really." Polar opposites, and a mighty foot to the ass of "all shmumz teh same" thinking.

Playing Kyokugen for the MSX. The caravan mode is quite simple, but fun to get high scores with. But I'm really itching to play Pleasure Hearts and Anaconda, M-Kai's other shmup gems. Too bad his site is down now...

Yeah, GG Aleste is definitely the easiest in series. Actually, near the half of all Compile's shmups are not as tough as The Guardian Legend

Yeah, GG Aleste is definitely the easiest in series. Actually, near the half of all Compile's shmups are not as tough as The Guardian Legend

GG Aleste is probably the easiest shmup I ever played too, also 1cc on my first try. The only other shmup I managed to do that was Harmful Park, and even that wasn't as easy as GG Aleste.

But Guardian Legend isn't the only Compile shmup that's hard. The original Zanac on MSX (The very first one, not Zanac EX which is based on the NES version) is also hard as nails... the earlier Compile shmups were harder... Final Justice and Guardic (The game that Guardian Legend is a sequel of) aren't very easy either.
