I don't suppose any of the items in the shop replace 360 mode's interface with the normal wallpaper, huh? That interface is *seriously* ugly.

Sorry, that's total shit. Someone said this is Cave's best game, but it's broken. If they had rectified the bug, perhaps it stood a chance, but instead they made the bugged ver. the status quo. Idiocy, can't believe Ikeda would allow such daftness.
I get the sense that, since they were rebalancing it for 1.5, they wanted arcade hd to give an experience comparable to playing the pcb. Just play v1.5. Is there anything about 1.5 that you can't stand or what?

(This is assuming that people are right in saying that the bug was fixed for 1.5, which I'm willing to believe is correct)

Just enlarge game window, interface disappears.

Dunno I haven't got the game yet.

What's 1.5 like, the exact same as arcade minus the bug? What I can't stand is that you can't have valid leaderboard competition with the bug switched off. If you don't know why that's dumb wait until the scoreboard opens up on the forum and see how many people not exploiting the bug make it into the rankings.

1.5 is clearly superior here .. let's face it, they didn't even fix the PCB. Although that might be because they had no moneys .. :(

Pretty sure that's it. Although there must be some shame in there somewhere too: selling PCB's to operators and constantly having to recall/revise them must be kind of embarrassing after you've done it several times.

They probably thought, yep it's all perfect, ship it! Then the overflow was cracked and IKD was just like "I'm not revising it! They can fuck the game to the full extent of the jam for all I care!"

I think it's perfectly reasonable to port one mode as close to the arcade version as you can while having another mode that fixes its problems. Cave fans are always going on about arcade perfect, so it probably seemed like the best of both worlds to retain the original version while revising it as v1.5. Really not a big deal, imo.

As for owners or the PCB, yeah, that sucks.

I'm pretty sure the 1.5 changes were made after getting months of feedback from players about what they would want changed. One of the versions is that anyway. The changes don't sound that exciting to me frankly.

The only change that I find really exciting is the scoring bug fix, but I don't know that I would have cared for anything really drastic, as I'm really enjoying the game. 360 mode is the drastic reimagining here, and one of Cave's better arranges.

I can agree that it would probably be better to cap the hyper stock lower, but I don't know a ton about the incentives of stocking hypers.

I agree in part. But wouldn't it have been nice to have a version of the PCB that's fixed, being played the way IKD and team originally intended (by building score over all 5 stages using the implemented system) and allow that version to be tackled competitively on the leaderboards. Honestly, I can't see a problem with that. I'm sure most people will have been more than happy to have the bug switched off as the default and enjoyed competing for score in the game as it was meant to be played.

1.5 is fine, but its tweakings in other areas mean it's not the same as the vanilla release.

Anyway, doesn't matter, Cave aren't allowing bugfixed runs to compete, so that's that.

Loving those patch notes. The only issue I've had that doesn't seem to be mentioned there is the fact that I've had the game freeze when attempting to download certain replays from the leaderboards, but maybe that will be incorporated into the leaderboard fixes.

Fair enough. I think Cave has a hard time discerning what fans actually want though, considering they bungle up something as simple as initial inputs. Or maybe the Japanese fans just have different priorities than us. Either way, I'd probably be confused as a company if the same people who demanded arcade perfect ports started complaining that I made things too much like the arcade release.

New blog post, seems to detail more precise patch notes.
Updates regarding the patch:
Does it mention anything regarding adding a different button other than the right stick to unlock Saya in arcade mode?

The 3000GP item in the shop unlocks Saya for play in Arcade mode (and all other modes?). The only catch is that seemingly the only way to select her is to click in the right analog stick on the ship selection screen.

I'd forgotten about that issue, but once I heard that Saya introduced a lot more slowdown than the other ship types (and thereby causing us to rank her separately), I sort of lost interest in playing as her.

That kinda sucks. I mean, Cave must know that most people play with arcade sticks, so no analog click action possible.
And for the scorefix issue, it would have been enough to put in a filter for scorefix in the leaderboard. I guess they did not do that?

Game is waiting for me in Germany, but I am on holiday. Here is hoping the patch is released before I head back home

Game arrived today and just had to stop playing as my contacts were drying out.

What a brilliant game. Played mostly 360 mode on shot. Shame about the score bug (which must be about to be fixed right?) but have absolutely no other moans once I sorted out the volume levels (BGM 75, fx 100, voice 35).

Quick silly question: I'm playing on a LCD which I tate (obviously). I assume when zooming you get the correct ratio as long as you keep both numbers the same?

Very pleased with this purchase.

(ps. I always think with long threads like this it would be useful to have an editable FAQ at the beginning)

Game just arrived for me.

I like it a lot! Been playing for a few hours now; haven't made much headway, but then I didn't expect to. The difficulty reminds me a lot of Futari Maniac.

Dropped a credit into Expert mode a little bit ago. That mode is lol.

the fuck

I haven't had time to play SDOJ as much as I'd like but playing it in a friend's cab tomorrow... so she doesn't show up in the selection screen like the others? You have to hit the right analog stick? How the fuck are you supposed to do that while playing in a cab (Xbox adapters do not bother with Left/Right Analog buttons obviously)?

goddamnit cave

Actually, wait, I don't even think you can hit L3/R3 on an arcade stick, you have to plug in a controller to select her...?! Seriously, goddamnit cave, what the fuck. The game's awesome but the interface is the worst thing you've rushed out the door ever.
NTSC-J wrote:Some bug with the music was fixed

But best of all, they also made some changes to the interface, including a goddamn retry option when failing a Challenge, louder fargin' sound effects, and the ability to make the ding-dang screen wider.
Nice that they actually noticed and are fixing those bugs. I can't understand why they made challenge mode boot you to the menu after a failure, that's just dumb.

Yes, they fixed the Saya select, too. I wasn't sure what the "secret item" was so I didn't mention it, but it says that after purchasing it, you can now select it with the "back button". So on the character select screen, press whatever you have set to back and she should be selectable.

Not sure what the exact phrase is... I'm going full plankton on this game

This game is no joke and my eyes need to get used to all the glowing neon everywhere. Seems quite a few of us are having difficulty keeping track of the hit-box. I've never experienced this before.

It's not just you. I feel like I have a better shot with the green ship just because it's shots don't clash with the bullet colors so much ..

Full drop of the Trou.

I had to turn my CRT's color, brightness, and sharpness way down to even begin to see what was what.
