In like a movie or tv show. when a character starts spouting out Bible passages, but then is interrupted by another character who then continues the said passage, then says which exact chapter/verse it was from.

Probably one of the biggest offenses I see on an almost daily basis on the internet. People try and trail off with a word, usually resulting with about five or more periods. Sigh...

hoping it's just a disconnected wire somewhere; probably nothing worse than the PSU. Going to take a while to sort though, because the machine's wiring is a rat's nest even with the modular routing
currently looking at tiny text on a 17" 1920x1200 laptop screen also is annoying as hell. How did I ever manage to get by with this? Also, this is the laptop with the world-famous "black things display a jittery green fuzz pattern" problem. After I fix the main computer I'm going to look and see if something's loose inside this...

YouTube's constant, inane site updates. The link at the top of the screen for the Inbox is gone, replaced with all these links to Google Profile stuff (because they want you to use it like SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME SOCIAL MEDIA), and the Inbox has, bizarrely, been moved under the Video Manager. At one point, one of their updates actually hid the "sort by upload date" pane until another update fixed it.

why the fuck wont they stop asking me to use my full name? WANNA DISPLAY YOUR PIN NUMBER RIGHT UNDER YOUR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS? They've broken video buffering for me recently, so stuff will buffer up to a point, then stop buffering entirely. After the video reaches the end of the buffer, the playback will just stop. No loading wheel, nothing. Just stopped. I have to seek to the very next moment to keep watching.
Also their new "144p" has no sound, and videos I watch tend to get instantly downgraded to that quality whenever the above problem happens, so I get the feeling they're related.
Fuck off, youtube.

I didn't have these problems yet, but what's killing me are the sudden influx of ads. I've even gotten ads after buffering. Yeeeaaah.trap15 wrote:Fuck off, youtube.

Oh god, yeah. Youtube is such a dick about ads lately. I also hate how they removed the little drop down arrow above the video that when clicked, would list other videos posted by that same person. I don't want to go to their channel just to see if they have anything else worth watching.Ed Oscuro wrote:the sudden influx of ads.

This is what happens when you dipshits get possessive about your precious guns. If you'd passed those damned laws earlier, you could've saved 2 more lives. I say 2 because the 4 year old is going to have to live the rest of his life with this. This made me think of the Gorrillaz song Kids With Guns from their Demon Days(z?) album. "Kids with guns. It won't be long." They were right.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
What about the student who stabbed 14 or so of his classmates? He didn't have a single firearm on him. Guns are merely a means, not the cause. Also, passing any law wouldn't have made *that* specific rifle disappear, you know? It was the result of parental negligence, more than anything. Who leaves a 6-year old alone with a 4-year old? It could have been a power tool instead of a rifle, and the cause would still be the same.

I agree with what Specinoff said, but I'm gonna take a more cold-hearted approach and just say I don't see the problem.Lord Satori wrote:This is what happens when you dipshits get possessive about your precious guns. I've never really bought this "people are dying, Oh no!" reasoning. People are constantly dying every day. And then there's the philosophy that all life is precious... why? Most humans who have life never amount to anything. In all honesty, society wouldn't have half the problems it does if more people died more often.
To most people, this is just "some kid I've never met was killed by another kid I've never met." It's just trivia they heard about on TV. But imagine if there were less people. Then that kid would be your cousin or third cousin or a distant niece of your best friend, and suddenly there's a more palpable connection, and I'd have reason to care. Not to mention, if human society were small enough for everyone to be connected in such a way, we wouldn't have the problems of corrupt government officials (nobody would want to hurt someone close to them), environmental contamination (wouldn't be enough of us to cause significant damage), or public miseducation or ignorance (since you'd have less people to worry about, it would be less of a hassle to educate them).
So hey, if anything, this is an argument for public, uncontrolled ownership of guns!

Gmail. I rarely use it to send mail, but today I discovered that they've 'updated' (read: made fucking shitty) the interface. When you compose a new message, instead of a new message showing up in the main window, you get this dumb little pop-in at the bottom right side of the screen (which looks godawful on vertically oriented monitors). And of course, no option to change it? Ugh.

that is the bookend to my return to the stone age, i.e. laptopping with a Core 2 Duo T7700, no SSD, slow Flash performance in fullscreen, and 17" versus 26". it feels like going from the stone age to floating around in the ISS. Well, sort of.
Now to celebrate with some ZX Spectrum emulation.

Everytime I watch a big, American TV show and someone takes one of those Microsoft tablets, assemble the keyboard part and turn it towards the camera showing off Windows 8 start menu before "alt-tabbing" to the important information it apparently holds. It's such a blatant product placement.

^^^ Yeah. That, and how Win 8 is so freaking sterile. MS finally had done two things right (XP and 7, not counting the Vista fiasco), and managed to shake off the stigma it had earned for years. Then they try to beat Apple by coming up with a retarded Playskool interface. I'll stick to 7 till they stop trying to dumb down computing to insanely retarded levels. I really miss the colorful yet sober look of XP, and the eye candy of 7.

Windows 8 is such a disaster. Attaching a keyboard to a tablet device does not a computer make!

Rebooting and then losing my font settings in Chrome
Seriously what the fuck. I really love my nice fonts and it's royally pissing me off that they've suddenly changed to the default ugly fonts (Linux, if that explains why the fonts were ugly). It's things like this that make me think of going back to OS X...
For what it's worth, every other program still uses my nice fonts, including the default shitty Debian browser.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Here's one I keep running into. My most recent instance was while looking up information on Tokusatsu on Wikipedia (taken from their entry on Kamen Rider Black):
You can't "consider" something to be popular. It either is or it isn't. This is a statement of fact, not opinion.
Now, if they had said "many people consider it to be the best" that would make sense. That IS an opinion and "consider" makes sense when dealing with opinions. But saying "consider it the most popular" is about like saying "many people consider Obama to be the first black president of the USA." It just... ARGH.
The bolded part is the problem area. With its very dramatic storyline and its twist of the Kamen Rider having a tragic relationship with his arch-nemesis, the installment not only became very popular in Japan, but also in many countries where it was aired. The series is often regarded as a TV classic and is considered by many as the most popular Kamen Rider show of the late 1980s, as well as the most famous of all Kamen Riders in the Showa Period.

those are called weasel words by wikipedia editors, and you can flag them.
Here's one.
HI MY NAME IS ReviewTechUSA AND ALTHOUGH I'VE BEEN REVIEWING THESE THINGS FOR YEARS I CAN'T FIND TALK ABOUT THE LITERATELY
Therefore, ESRAM is good because it "helps you render shit faster"
and then he goes on a long and pointless digression about how specs are meaningless (surely they would be for somebody who doesn't know all the specifications of the machine, or how to interpret them) and they might both be "just as fast"
Anyway all this console wars bullshit is just obscuring that everybody's going to make everything multiplatform now so it won't matter one iota unless you really care about Trophies versus Achievements (Steam or Xbox-style). The kind of technology they're talking about for the 720 seems hilariously gimped, somebody must have been sitting on a huge stockpile of DDR3 to make this happen.
Anyway, we'll see what's really going on with the 720 and its various memory caches. It would be rather strange for it to start terribly bottlenecked right out of the gate with small or slow caches, but maybe it is. Ditto for the PS4 of course.

Also, another annoyance: When a fansubber releases an episode to torrents and doesn't seed it.
Related: When a torrent goes super-fast but then stops for no reason.
