I've been wondering all along what the Russians have just suggested: domestic manipulation of the election. As if the Democrats are any purer. VA's governor Terry McAucliffe tried to artificially boost blue voters by giving blanket pardons and voting-restitution to tens of thousands of convicts - conveniently in a swing state during an election year (gee, what party would they vote for?) - before the state's supreme court said that that was unconstitutional (the old dominion's constitution saying that you need to review cases on an individual basis to determine a pardon and restitution, not just a blanket OK).

McAucliffe was clearly concerned about disenfranchisement and unfairness; it must have kept him up at night (thinking about all those people who could re-elect him and his friends if given the chance). Cooking the books is a time-honored political tradition.

And let's not forget Chicago's time-honored custom of having dead people vote, and vote Democrat. Dead people have a voice too (10% of the vote in 1983)!

lol, you are confusing two different questions.

The question "is it the right thing to reconstitute a convict's or felon's voting rights per some requirements?"

is not the same as

"is it legal or lawful for a governor to offer blanket pardons to convicts without reviewing their cases on an individual basis?"

In this case, the answer to the first question might be nuanced, and there can be some room for common ground. However, the answer to the second question is crystal clear.

The whole "but isn't it the right thing to do?" tack is almost always made either in well-meaning ignorance, or in a disingenuous manner. IE, a sleazy way of deflecting issues or evidence of wrong-doing.

So many wrong things can be justified with moral absolutes or leading questions. Think back to history: Democrat Huey Long's famous "Share our Wealth" plan to give every single poor family* thousands of dollars a month, by essentially forcibly taking the money of wealthier citizens (ie, his political opponents). He would say something like

"Isn't it wrong to let poor people suffer? Shouldn't they be supported? Don't those other [jews and bankers] have enough?"

Which doesn't change the fact that what he wanted to do was ILLEGAL. I hope you can realize that it is important to ask the right and specific questions instead of boiling things down into simple moral binaries.
