Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hey everyone, KoopsMagoo here. I got into shmups about a year ago and have been playing almost nothing but them since. I got a few clears under my belt but nothing too spectacular, with my personal favorites being Thunder Dragon and JP Daioh at the moment. Currently, I'm working on Thunder Dragon 2 and have been at it for a few months now haha.

Ey up.
Been playing arcade games since I was a kid in the 70s, but I never tried to play them well - I just messed about. Now however, I’m retired and having built up a decent Switch collection of Arcade Archives, classic Shmups etc. I figured I’d got the time to invest properly, learn the scoring etc.
I am rubbish though.
So far I’ve finished BlackBird ( I loved Fantasy Zone on the mast system when it came out) but want to revisit to 1cc, progressed well on Crimson Clover novice modes, which is my real first 1cc attempt, and I can also get to Stage 3 on Thunder Dragon 2.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
it's been a long time since I last checked in here but it makes me really happy to see this place still alive and new people joining.
I don't expect people to remember me but I was somewhat active after the x360 release of saidaioujou. I haven't properly played in a while outside of the latest touhou and i'm pretty washed up. but maybe i'll find the motivation to return at some point.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hello,
I've been reading along here for a long time and wanted to briefly introduce myself.
My first STG was Space Invaders on the Commodore CBM 3032. Back then, I was thrilled with Galaxian and Galaga, and arcade games in general.
Unfortunately, arcade machines disappeared from public view in West Germany in the mid-80s and became unattainable for me.
In the 2000s, I rediscovered shoot 'em ups through MAME and discovered all these fantastic Japanese STGs.
I'm a fan of the M2 Shot Trigger ports. Currently, I'm playing (rather badly) Ketsui.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
When I was little my Father took me to this party at one of his friends. In a backyard shed they had an Apple II plugged into a monochrome monitor and on it was a clone of Galaxian. That is how I got addicted to video/computer games.
The first computer we had was a Vic20 and we had Avenger on cart which was a Space Invaders clone.
I prefer much older shmups but I do like playing newer ones. Also I am pretty bad at it I dont think I will ever 1CC anything.

Hi guys! Got back into shmups last year with Devil Blade Reboot and have been having a lot of fun rediscovering the genre and meeting the community around it.
Played Raiden Trad and Super R-Type on my SNES as a kid, and started exploring the world of doujins in the 2010s with the Gundemonium trilogy among others. These games always fascinated me, but I’d never learned how to play them well, so it’s fun to finally start digging in and getting 1CCs.
Been mainly focused on scoring in RefRain Prism Memories, which for my money is one of the most beautiful games ever made.

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hi everyone I'm Sam, and I just started gettin into shmups. After years thinking they were just too hard for me I decided to go for my first 1cc.
I've been practicing DodonPachi Dai Ou Jou for around three weeks by now and I'm having tons of fun with it (managed to beat stage 4 without game overing yesterday!).
I want to learn more about the genre, and how to play them because I find them very interesting.
Nice to meet you all!

Re: The Self-Introduction Thread
Hey all,
Long time reader and lurker. Thought I'd start being more active in the community. Having been playing video games more or less since the beginning starting with a Binatone Master TV in the late 70's. First shmup love was Astro Wars (Super Galaxian) that was released in the UK as a standalone table top device when I was 5 years old. I would always interact with Arcade Machines whenever I could until 1987 when I was old enough to "go to the city"
without supervision and I was in the arcades multiple times per week. I liked the shmups but found them too hard generally for a 11 year old but did initiate my 1cc journey with Toaplan's Wardner.
Got into online with Street Fighter 4 but after 10 or so years in the FGC I just became completely disillusioned with fighting games and their communities. My attention was brought to M2's DOJ release, I purchased and haven't looked back since. Now I mostly play STGs 90% of the time. If it wasn't for the genre I probably wouldn't bother with video games anymore. The industry in general just feels very stagnant right now.
Thanks for reading!
