I have the 360 version, but quite frankly, I'd rather own a cart over a disc.

The Seibu Kaihatsu SPI carts of Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive and Raiden Fighters Jet all run at the widely accepted "arcade-spec" 54mHz speed indeed. If money isn't a factor, they'd be the ideal way to own/play them as originally intended with an Seibu SPI arcade motherboard setup (even both high scores & high score initials are saved via the on-board RTC battery). How cool is that?

Sure, the upcoming dedicated Switch cart of the "Raiden Fighters Remix Collection" is already jam-packed with nothing more additional or extra to buy which is a positive plus/merit unto itself -- plus the added benefits of playing it on "the go" and when docked, the ability to play it on a larger HDTV screen setup is already to be expected (considered as a couple of modern-day QoL upgrades/necessities nowadays). It's a given in this "day of age."

I haven't played, but someone who bought on steam reported back that there is no game speed option.

So whatever the game speed is, its locked. Its probably 60fps... I guess I'll look for a PCB :/

Bought the PS5/PS4 version.
Options are a bit limited. You have some filters (scanlines, CRT, CRT Arcade), Wallpapers (Wallpaper Off is possible). You can remap the controls. You can change the music to arranged versions once you unlocked them.
Credits are limited to three in the beginning (may increase with time playing, didn't happen to me yet), game settings apart from difficulty are only possible in "Customs" Mode.
You also can choose between Japanese and English Versions.

What bugs me a bit is that there is no attract mode.
When you start the game, the three credits are displayed and the game is waiting for you to press start.
After you depleted all credits, the game exits to the main menu.

If someone finds a way to watch the intro and attract mode of the games, let me know. Thanks.

For Gojiguy,

The SPI carts of the Raiden Fighters series run at the original 54mHz speed -- they'll set you back a pretty penny nowadays but totally worth it "in the end" as it's arcade hardware/software at it's purest & unadulterated form. I have them all as dedicated SPI carts to play on my SPI motherboard setup.

The SPI cart of Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. has the highly touted two-loop feature that both "Old Version" & "New Version" Viper Phase 1 SPI carts don't have whatsoever as they're both "one loop" affairs at best. So be it.

----------
Heck, even the Chinese version of "Raiden Fighters Jet 2000" is considered an official RF arcade release despite it being released as a dedicated "single layer" SPI motherboard + rom (in both the crappy Oki sound chip & more "highly desired & better sounding" Yamaha sound chip endowed variant pcbs).

Here's a single-layer Seibu Kaihatsu "Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive 2000" jamma pcb: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285521055534?_ ... R6DepPWSZw

From what the seller mentions of the audio being not all that great -- is because it's using an Oki sound chip. If it had a Yamaha sound chip installed, it'd sound much better. You get what you pay for if you buy a single-layer SPI motherboard + rom jamma pcb with the cheaper & inferior Oki sound chip factory-installed -- and it's not "due to some 'bad caps' either."

Oh sorry, I was wondering if the new compilation fixes the 54/60Hz sync discrepancy. Or at least what options it offers to address it.

It’s out on PSN store or separates in Japan so just gor it and the switch version unlocked from Japan store too. There is no options for anything really Tate seems to be cut there is a score attack mode for 1cc and leaderboard has full English. Runs very smooth my health is very dire and can’t see so good so quick look but very smooth on switch 2 and ps5 pro. You can redo buttons and rapid fire nice to see English translation fully or Japanese menus were English. I can’t say for arcade etc it was does it work etc as it’s my favourite game collection of all time.
Finally out and Tokyo extreme racer if anyone intrested non shmup for PS5
I do t like the pricing though something silly like 2333 each or all for think 6600 it was more than the switch but I think it says u get 10 perfect off for psn subs.
For me it was running very fast but I can’t remember rf1 as thats all I played but the generic menu is same. At least u can rotate the screen too but I have played a very slow shmup sky anniversary and I am fighting an horrendous infection and no longer taking 26heart meds a day so don’t take my word all I know it’s smooth beautiful and I can finally play it again

See u on the leaderboards :)

FYI: Nothing done to address the discrepancy. No options either. Surprise surprise.

(I should say this is on borrowed authority. I don’t know these games well enough to say with 100% certainty that no more subtle tweaks were made. But I find that highly doubtful given the overall quality of the port. People who do know seem certain that this is just a simple bump to 60hz though.)

Oh, is this out now? I forgot about it entirely... been busy with important IRL stuff and, more importantly, that weird new Star Trek Voyager game.

So, how is it? I'm assuming it's not a complete travesty, right?

Also interested in the available scaling options. I hope it has, at bare minimum, an integer scale square pixels option, as that's infinitely better than the distortion of non-integer scale with either a nasty blur filter or no interpolation like what ACA has going on.

So... this experience is "downgrade" from Raiden Fighters Aces from 360?????

I just check RFA on Xenia... and have:

Actually... what is difference between this new one and RFA? Did not check much since no PC Steam release >.<!~

No scaling options, no scanline options (other than on/off), no game speed options.

If the game is switched into TATE, you can’t even use any of the wallpapers you unlock. And the default wallpaper for TATE isn’t “Black,” so hopefully you like what they give you.

I even have yet to unlock more than three available credits, and I have a few hours in RF2. Are more coming? I’m starting to doubt it! (5CC bros btfo!)

I see a lot of people claiming this port is terrible and not to buy it and some saying it plays well.....(I could be wrong) But many seem to be guessing without actual first hand experience or input. I'm not sure what to believe here.

Most importantly, I see this video:

https://youtu.be/emdpBdToUV8?si=FYzjHd3PJyhYkQFo

During the gameplay in this video, Jet (admittedly, I didn't pay much attention to 1&2 in the vid so those could be off a little) sure looks like it's running at 54fps to me when playing.

Hope someone can clear this up

Despite loving Jet, I'm certainly no expert on the framerate issue in this instance. I don't plan on playing for world records but still would like an experience close (or close enough) to what I'm used to. I'm not sure whose right or wrong here but as long as that frame counter is accurate, things seem ok or I'm missing something......

Is all the doom and gloom really warranted or is this port pretty decent (even if it is missing a couple options from aces)?

Edit: Forgot the timestamp. Jet starts at the 9 min mark

So, I just saw a tweet referencing this, and the answer is real interesting. Per the video description, this video is being captured from a Switch 1, maybe hacked to show a frame counter unless I'm mistaken. It seems to be averaging around 54fps, but it's not intentional: it's actually due to frame drops on the Switch 1 version.

So, was this answer you saw just another person guessing about what might be happening?

Not saying you / they are right or wrong. Just trying to get some concrete information and answers so that people can make an informed decision.

I saw you did a 180 on this and called them "broken" and "unplayable", how come you changed your mind so completely?

Edit (not specifically for Daygo2Duval but a post in general :D):
I found a video comparing them by the way, it's indeed too fast.

I'd be OK with the ~10% speed increase as long as the shadows are fixed. Did they at least fix those?

I've heard from multiple sources that not only does this NOT support 54fps and just speeds the game up, the game is actually just running MAME. I'd love if someone could confirm the speed issue who is more well versed in this game, but it appears to be the case.

Hold onto your PCBs and/or Aces.

I haven't heard anything about input lag, but personally I'm skipping this one. Maybe if they patch in VRR I'd consider it, but this is a real disappointment.

Thankfully, I found a PCB (mobo+cart) so at least I can play RF1 as intended...

EDIT - someone made a comparison video. Look like a smoking gun to me...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epl9qHnKLAQ
