A2 is awesome, awesome... I could compare Chaos Bringer (aka Le Bruit Qui Court) to Panacea, but... maybe it's even more awesome

^They (The Spits) are playing here Saturday (the 18th of March?) at SXSW.
I'm there, considering that I'm one of the few lucky/stupid bastards to get a wristband. Thanks again for (re?)acquainting me with these guys, Pa.
By the by, there was a Fuckemos reunion show tonight at the Longbranch Inn, but I missed it on account of my extreme lameness.
Eh, this week:
The Ramones - Road to Ruin
New Kingdom - Heavy Load
The Rolling Blackouts - s/t EP
Duke Ellington - Anatomy of a Murder OST
Brown Whornet - s/t
Autechre - Peel Session
Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie - Bird and Diz
Speedy J - A Shocking Hobby
Hieroglyphics - 3rd Eye Vision
V/A - A-sides (Part one. 1979/1982) (Crass Records compilation)

So, Pa, how was the show?
Oh, and so's not to derail the topic too bad, I'm currently listening to:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Kicking Against the Pricks
Lee Perry - Scratch Attack! (compilation of Scratch & Company and Blackboard Jungle Dub)

Double lame, I stayed in. I was too tired to self motivate and none of my married thirtysomething buddies could be coaxed out of the house either. Weakasses.
I am going to a show for sure on Tuesday though. Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices. GBV isn't totally my bag, but my friend from kindergarten is coming up from Portland so I told him I'd go. Since I already paid the exorbitant fee of $16 for this character, I'm definitely going to show up. I hope he's not all weak and emo or anything.
Anyways, I'm still listening to mostly Run DMC these days.

Have fun. Heres hoping the bastard doesn't show up too drunk to put on a decent show.PaCrappa wrote:Double lame, I stayed in. I was too tired to self motivate and none of my married thirtysomething buddies could be coaxed out of the house either. Weakasses.

Arab on Radar - Yahweh or the Highway
Six Finger Satellite - Severe Exposure
Speedking - The Fist and the Laurels [disc 1]
Hella - The Devil Isn't Red
Blut aus Nord - The Work...
Made in Mexico - Zodiac Zoo
My favorite album this year so far: Yahweh or the Highway. A true work of art, and yes, great art can be ridiculous.

Well, he started pretty drunk and got WAY drunker. But I really thought it was great. I'm not gonna rush out and pump up a GBV collection or anything, but I had a great time. Pollard's funny on stage and definitely rocked for about 3 hours.Jon wrote:Have fun. Heres hoping the bastard doesn't show up too drunk to put on a decent show.

Dug out an old CD of mine, forgot it's actually quite good (if incredibly silly in places):
Laibach - Jesus Christ Superstar
If you've ever heard of Rammstein, they owe an awful lot to Laibach...

Ha! Good to hear no one in the audience was knocked out by one of his high kicks or mic stand twirling antics. I always thought GBV was a pretty solid band that simply put out way too much material. Quantity over quality I guess.PaCrappa wrote:Well, he started pretty drunk and got WAY drunker. But I really thought it was great. Considering the topic I will add that I have been listening to XTC's "English Settlement" quite a bit lately. A classic imo.

Metalbox by PiL is my favorite album. Only lately has this album been getting the respect it deserves.
Wire - Chairs Missing - The album all shit Brit pop bands want to sound like, even to the point of plagerism in at least one case... Elastica.
Ministry - Psalm 69 - just a rocking album IMO
The Stooges - Funhouse
Skinny Puppy - Bites
Kraftwerk - Europe Endless
Iggy Pop - The Idiot
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
David Bowie - Low
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

The Wailers - I forget the name of the compilation because it's in my car. This ain't Bob Marley and the, it's the old school 60s Seattle rock band. They rule.
Run DMC - Tougher Than Leather
MOTO - Raw Power
Armitage Shanks - Shanks' Pony
Conan the Barbarian soundtrack
Hank Sr - compilation I forget the name of
Been playing Silent Hill and now I want a soundtrack for that. Fargin' scary.

You'd think with the thirty-odd bands I saw last week, I'd be burnt out on music this week, but no.
The Lords of Altamont - To Hell With The Lords of Altamont
Sepultura - Arise
Helios Creed - The Last Laugh and Boxing the Clown
V/A play The Scientists - Set it on Fire!
The Misfits - s/t compilation and Beware EP
Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
Grey Daturas - Dead in the Woods
Rhys Chatham - Die Donnergotter (The Thundergods)
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
The Spunks - Born to be Mild
Insect Sex Act - Act I
King Snake Roost - Things That Play Themselves

Bowie's Ziggy Stardust on constant rotation at the minute. Sheer class.
Also picked up the Appleseed Cast's 'Low Level Owl Vol. 1 & 2' on vinyl, a beautiful set with gatefold cover and 24 tracks over 3 x 120g black discs. THIS is why I love LP's. The music itself is atmospheric, experimantal, spaced-out indie rock with sparse vocals (about half the LP is instrumental) and an incredible attention to detail within the songs. Epic in every sense of the word, go check them out. They're not for those of a short attantion span however.
