Salamander - Stage 4 - 368,500

Used two credits, died at the same spot of the same stage.

Holy fuck Salamander pisses me off with that stage 4. Life Force at least gives you a fighting chance and doesn't dollop on the bullshit with the enemies from the ground.

Nah dude come play with us. Doesn't matter how new you are, not like we are having a ton of success anyhow. This thread is all about casual fun and rage.

Agree completely, stage 4 is infuriating. It's so random sometimes with those ground enemies, and the boss is so completely broken, there's just no way to beat it without using an exploit.

Some time ago I endeavoured to cure my Salamander Blue Balls, and was quite successful. Here are the results of my research.

You can also just play a credit, game over and start again and apparently it won't fire at all. But booo!

^That's pretty much it yeah

Only thing was when I was doing it, I would always get clipped and killed if I sat still inside the middle core, so instead I would pull the ship out before the orbs passed over me, and then reinsert. Yep. It's exactly what you are thinking, not "shoot the core", "fuck the core"

As BIL says, once you get 4 or 5 orbs trapped pull out so you don't get the boss pregnant.

That should be really helpful. I'll have to test that method and see if I can pull it off.

Went pretty well actually. I really need to sit down and actually learn this game.

Added a bunch of stuff to my list that I don't have legit copies of, and rolled again.
Got Sturmwind (actually have a legit copy of this, too!)
It's been a while since I've played, but I'm looking forward to playing again, once I get a chance, later today.
stay tuned...

Whoo! got the 1cc. I was a little worried, 'cos there's a few traps in this that I might not remember, but luckily it's a super easy / forgiving game! Not even close to my best score tho. Not even on the local highscore board
Also, I like how in the end cutscene thing for the arcade mode, it implies that after you fight off the evil conquerer, you go on to conquer a bunch of other people "No one will be able to resist" or something like that. Hahaha. Gotta love where you're not actually necessarily the good guy.
Spoiler

Note that stage 7 is called stage 7 because it's stage 7-1 in the normal mode, IIRC. It's actually stage 6 in the arcade mode. Regardless tho, it's an ALL

Lord Hypnos - Sturmwind - Arcade Mode, Normal Difficulty - ALL - 2,060,134

Now some other people roll again! This is actually pretty fun.

Eno - Super Star Soldier - 5 min mode - 909,900

I actually played 2 runs of Super Star Shooter before realizing. Couldn't really get how to cheese out the first boss in one credit and don't feel like rolling another one right now.

Congrats on this, you actually completed the Captain's challenge by clearing, so that means you get to make all of us play a game of your choice.

IDK... I'm guessing Sturwind normal difficult arcade mode doesn't qualify as "sufficiently difficult" It's REALLY easy. It was my first shmup ever though, and is pretty fun. Play for the interesting boss battles and stage hazards! Dreamcast only, tho (this is one of them unlicensed indie games).

I'll wait for Captain to rule on it I guess. You guys all get to play Mars Matrix if it counts

Squire Grooktook - Raiden - stage 2 - 137,770

Playing blind from stage 1 onward. Died twice on stage 1 boss because I forgot bombs don't give invulnerability. Decided to NEVER GIVE UP but still died near the end of stage 2.

Was fun though.

^I'm pretty sure if you roll a Euroshmup and were dumb enough to buy it you've gotta soldier on and suffer though it

However if you don't own/have access to the game of course that's a free reroll. In my case I won't play anything I don't legit own (meaning no mame). Only exception is when someone calls a game after clearing a challenge, in which case I'll emulate as necessary.

Lord Hypnos - noiz2sa - Endless Mode Easy - 912,680

not terrible, but pretty bad
I chose easy, because the next step up is hard >_>

EDIT: Also, if I limited myself to legit titles, I'd only have a list like 10 long or so >_>

There's no rule about it needing to be legit, so play the way you want. Just in my case my main reason for participating is to get more enjoyment out of my rather large collection, so I'm not interested in emulated titles. I really only use MAME for tournaments and savestate practice anyhow.

Fair enough. I typically don't play stuff I don't own very much. It's sort of a way to investigate possible future games, for me. I have limited myself to stuff I don't already have downloaded, which is still a pretty restricted list.

EDIT: On topic- get rolling peoples, I still have time for another random game, if you guys let me! :P

@Squire: U could probably use one of your rerolls if you have any
@EmperorIng: If Captain deems my 1cc kosher (it is a tremendously easy game), then all I can say is "Go Play Mars Matrix," but untill then, people should probably just keep rollin'.

Squire Grooktook - Image Fight - Stage 5 - 226100

Game over on stage 2 first attempt, so used a credit from previous post. Almost died to stage 3 boss but than point blanked him hardcore while tap dodging the lasers. Died on the stage 5 boss. This is actually farther than I've ever 1'cc'd or credit fed lol (previous record was just before stage 3 boss, and the first stage 5 checkpoint, respectively).

Those lasers kicked the shit out of me when I rolled the NES version a while back.

This topic is hype today, too bad I'm stuck at work and can't play...

ACSeraph - Salamander 2 - Stage 5 - 235,100

Made lots of stupid mistakes in this run, lucky I even made it this far really. I managed to recover by some miracle after stupidly dying in stage 3. Also fuck speed powerups, worst idea in shmups seriously.
