So it turns out the Retron 5 is most likely based on RetroArch. You might as well just hook up a laptop via HDMI and use a USB to SNES adapter. A user also posted that he got it to play roms in a roundabout way via IPS patches.

That was always the case, RetroN5 is the budget option.

So it's based on stolen/unlicensed code from Retroarch?

Well the fact that is based on retroarch may mean would could get some nice shaders.

Just hope i get mine before this shit storm kicks up and it gets pulled from the marketplace.

I find it hard to believe that Hyperkin would be this stupid and think that no one would go poking about and find these files, they havent even tried to rename them to something different

My full Retron 5 review is pretty much complete. I'll update again after any major firmware update, or when someone releases a user-friendly hack to play roms. It's not a bad system, but I don't think most people here would use it...especially since most of us already own the original systems and either upscalers or RGB monitors. I do like it for GB/GBC/GBA, but now that the GBP has native 240p support, I'll most likely just play those games on my RGB monitor.

It was interesting that SNES games has twice the lag of Genesis games. If it really is based off Retroarch, I wonder if people using Retroarch on a PC get the same lag difference?

I predict their response will be "Waa waa we put so much effort into this hardware for the retro community we only want to make our investment back you mean hearted emulator authors" etc and so on.
