Interesting. My Hori Fighting Commander 3 PRO HP3-84U never worked pre- or post 1.01 update. Apart from the start and PS button completely useless in DP mode; in LS mode the D-pad works but the buttons (and presumably triggers) are dead. I wonder if they are going to bother fixing this or if it becomes a case of "it works fine with a DS3 and that's good enough".

Edit: This is odd. I was never able to use the HP3-84U on the PlayStation 2 Classic Raiden III, always had to use a DS3 - it seems to work now (not commenting on lag).

I'm curious how this even happens. As far as I know, an arcade stick shouldn't even be distinguishable from a regular controller to the console, aside from the fact that they don't have real analog sticks.

Just tried my Qanba q4 again with 1.01, not a single problem. Does everything work fine in XMB for you guys with problems? Maybe a recent OS patch rather than the game at fault? Confirmed other games still work?

Everything works even start buttons, just no face buttons and triggers.

My take on it is quite simple. Different company, different PCB :).

Right, but if those buttons work in the XMB, it's really strange to think that something specific to the game that could cause them to not work.

*shrug* I don't know, I'm not very knowledgeable about how the internals of that stuff works, it's just not something I can recall ever seeing happen before in a game.

I've never programmed a game for a console, but how hard is it to just give a 'here are all the controls of the game, select a control, hit a button and then that button is now mapped to that control, regardless of what fancy peripheral it was' menu? Because it's very easy in PC gaming.

The stick mightn't be following the PS3 controller protocol 100% to spec.
It happens (hell, the game might be checking for the pressure sensitive buttons, which an arcade stick wouldn't register).
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

It isn't difficult, but that isn't the problem. Console manufacturers (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) are convinced that if you give users options such as these that are common on PC it will be a customer service nightmare. To my knowledge there is no hard rule that will cause you to fail cert if you put in features like these. There is however a general mindset that persists in console gaming that a curated experience is better. People don't want to have to fidget with video and control settings, they want the developer to have done that leg work, and tweaked it to "the most ideal". This is why generally the audio and video sections of a console game will be basically pointless with 2 or 3 settings.

As an aside, it will be interesting to see what happens with Steam Machine and if the golden rule is actually true and if the mainstream console market's minds will explode if they are presented with toggling resolutions. Assuming it gets off the ground in the first place.

Man, overkill mode gives me restartitis like a motherfucker. My obsession with trying to get 5 medals out of everything really screws me more than it should lol.

MOSS are advertising for new staff to expand their business into new areas like ios, pachinko, medal games.

http://www.mossjp.co.jp/recruit.html

EDIT: They've already been making smartphone and medal games for other companies for a long time anyway, hopefully taking on more staff specifically for that will free up more time for the regular staff to do STG-related things, like finish Caladrius Blaze :o

Current staff is: (As of January 2014, eight men 35 women) 43 people

Well, in other good news, I guess, Raiden IV:OK will be entering EU/PAL airspace on 5/28.

Oh, cool, there's an actual release date announced again for Caladrius Blaze, and it's the day before my birthday, of all things :)! Well, hopefully, it gets released at that time (I sure can't wait to finally play the game! I've heard a lot about Caladrius!), assuming it doesn't get pushed back again, of course, haha, but if it turns there's more tweaking to do, then that's fine, too. I will continue to keep track of this, no doubt!

no, that's a good thing. any us or eu playstation game that does this is should get an extra point in every review. the "western standard" is random fabricated garbage that has nothing to do with the snes.

To anyone waiting for the EU version, it's up on the store now. £15.99.

As a proud Brit (not so fond of the EU!) I'll be getting this for definite. Important to rep the PS3 for those companies who bother to release good shmups for it!

Considering for a little hassle I can get it for four quid cheaper, I would have preferred the price point to have been under 15, but, you know, we got to get shafted somehow - even if it's just with the tip and a bit of lube, right?

Is this any good? at 19.99 € it is priced quite high here... I wasn't overly impressed with III on PS2, any pros/cons I should know before considering a purchase? And no "encouraging publishers to support EU market" isn't one.

My PS3 could use some shmupping lately, but I've read the rtype dimensions thread and.. Yuck! input lag, reverse engineering, issues with scrolling...

Encouraging publishers to support PS3/Sony AND EU market adds up to a good enough reason for me, esp with an IP like Raiden.

Yeah, I guess you're right, so I ended up buying it. A few stages into it, and yes, it seems better than Raiden III and pretty solid. I shouldn't have doubted Moss, it's pretty clear that they did care.

Now please redirect me to a good thread with strategies, I'm not doing well at all at this one. ^^

I also purchased this recently when it came to euro PSN. It is shmup gold. I'll probably spend hours on this game in the future when I have more free time. It's just such a fun game.
