That was my solution. I honestly don't think they spent much time calibrating those stages for Rock after completing the Forte side. I do like the boss fight though. Hard as it is.

Street Fighter X Mega Man - Gameplay Pt. 1

I'll definitely be playing this. I really think Capcom is trying to make up for all the Street Fighter X Tekken DLC backlash by making this game free.

I'm interested in spite of myself, it's just too bad this mashup is focusing on Street Fighter II characters, the blandest bunch in 2D fighting games. The casts of Darkstalkers and Rival Schools have way more personality.

Oh, I'd love to see Darkstalkers in this kind of games.

Rolento?

Urien?

Rose?

Don't recall any of them in SFII

I get the feeling folks are just reading that you fight against "8 Street Fighters" and automatically assume it's the SF2 crew. Those were certainly my assumptions before I actually watched a vid.

You know, this was being made by a kid with GameMaker. Capcom sent a cease and desist letter to them, then they decided to release the game themselves.

This is a video of a WIP version of the game, posted 2 years ago:

The game looks kind of... off. Maybe it'll play fine, but I'm holding off on my enthusiasm.

That said, when I found out it was a Mega Man-styled game instead of a fighting game with MM characters, I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe they'll continue to impress me.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw the title. I was getting ready to proclaim my hatred to the world, and then I saw that it was MM based instead of SF based and I got excited. I really hope this game is amazing.

Mega Man 1-6 coming to the 3DS eShop over the next year.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... -3DS-eShop

Normally I'm not a fan of buying VC titles when i can have the real ones, but having portable versions of the original NES Mega Man library is honestly kind of tempting.

Ah but with a PSP you could have all MM titles except X7,8, Starforce and ZX/A. Not to mention hacks.

In other news, making good progress in Rockman & Forte, playing as Bass. This game is of the highest echelon of MM. Now I'd rate my top 5 (well, 7) MM games as:

1. 10
2. R&F
3. 6=Z2
4. X4
5. 9=2

Hopefully one day a Japanese fella will make an FC version of R&F.

And currently downloading SFxMM!

And also the shittiest of LCD screens. My PSP is a 1000. Frankly though, I think it probably does have the more comfortable controls.

The Bass game is super fun. The Mega Man side is super frustrating due to poor level design for his play style. I think this is especially true with Burner Man.

Also downloading SFxMM

Someone needs to make an extra large sized Maverick stage (complete with boss) for Haku=Men (from BlazBlue) to play in.

He'd be at home in a Megaman X game, I swear he would, better than Zero, even.

has anyone tried the fan game "Mega Man Unlimited" ? Thinking of giving it a go tonight. It looks quite good, though its the fine details of the level design that makes or breaks these games imo.

That's out now? It looked interesting and I'm downloading it now. I also just ordered Mega Man ZX for DS (along with Ghost Recon Shadow Wars 3DS. RIP Tom Clancy :( ). It looks like ZX got a recent reprint since new ones went down in price from Amazon sellers.

Downloaded it. Use download link 2. I tried to download from link one, but the download was blocked. I like the game so far. Seems to be very difficult with few checkpoints.

This is old news, but Mega Man II-V GB and the GBC Mega Man X games were announced for the 3DS VC. Not sure when they are coming to the US, though.

Reviving old topic instead of starting new one, because...

Anyway, so I'm a born-again Mega-fan. I used to own nearly all the 8 and 16-bit games but then got bored of them and had to sell them, now I'm looking to rebuild my collection.

Here's my question:

Rockman X3, Saturn vs Playstation... Are there any significant differences? If so, which one is better? Is there any point in getting it at all since its included on the Megaman X collection?

I stick with the SNES version of X3. There are relatively few pieces on the soundtrack I like in the first place, but the remixed music on the disc releases sounds worse. To my ears, anyway; tell me what you think:
Original
Remix

There's a guide on GameFAQs that covers the differences in the X collection versions of the games.

Thanks.

I think with the X series I really am just gonna avoid the Collection. I know some would say its worth it because of Battle and Chase but last time I played it I honestly thought it was kinda boring. That and apparently the collection version removed story scenes.

Just another reason to learn Japanese I guess.

Check out: Mimibli's Quest

Plays like a cross b/w Mega Man & Cave Story (linear levels). Played through the intro stage just now and it's a joy. Lots of surprising and clever touches. Clearly a labor of love. Ala MM10, there are 3 difficulty levels that add/remove helpful platforms and tone up/down enemy clusters.

It's Freeware/Pay-what-you-want.

little bump for this fun mega man x developer diary i translated for a patron last week: http://www.shmuplations.com/megamanx

In other news, I cleared Rockman and Forte with Forte (Bass) the other day. Probably preferred the more balanced boss fights (and more grueling levels) of the Rockman playthrough though.

Despite it's too many "best" mega man games, here's some games in the series that considerably "worst" IMO :

MM X3
repetitive level design, boring gameplay, and one of the weaker Megaman OST's (intro stage / Zero theme, and Gravity beetle are only decent music)

MM X5
the only flaw is the Collision Hours system and an announcer voice are pretty annoying (and cutscene can't be skipped), other that is awesome.

MM X6
weird story (How the hell Zero can live again and repairing himself ?), bad level design, cheap challenges, Nightmare system makes it even worse, only beating once and never played it again. Also the game was ruining story in Zero series.

MM X7
Sure, I can't describe this one...

MM Zero 4
Another love it-or hate it games, the story are slightly imposed (which officialy Zero 3 was the end of the series) some enemies are 'copy-edit-paste' from previous series (even Mettaurs are regular foes), weather system makes the game easier but it decreasing rank if you choose the easiest route, but the ending scene are awesome and most epic in all MM moments.

Mega Man Zero 4 is one of my personal favorites. I like the more diverse stages and find the enemy placement in them a lot more creative.

They seem to have a lot of experience, at least.

Hopefully the games will run and look better than the 3DS virtual console versions do.
It's a joke that we're only getting MM 1-6 though. The last collection years ago did have more to offer with MM7, 8 and 1 or 2 arcade games.

Now I wonder if the game will be released in japan at all. If not I'll have to opt out since I'm owning a japanese 3DS.
