Ok seriously is stage 4 the FUCK YOU GIVE US YOUR MONEY AND DIE part of the game? There's absolutely no way to recover if you die.

things are coming along ok. getting to the point where I can no miss the first 2 stages + Moai stage pretty regularly. And cake level isn't too bad, unless your rank is really up there...

EDIT: damn, not that I don't expect things to change, but I'm only 300pts from the top 20. must.. chain... bells..!

Alright I'm done, I promised my team that once I got past stage 4 and hit 1 Million I'd be calling it quits for game 1 of STGT. It would take a whole lot of persuasion from my teammates to try one more time on Saturday.

ResumeDPosition - 1,091,400 - 5 - Koitsu - Mame

First death on stage 4 boss, lost another life after the 1st to bring rank down and make it much easier to kill it. Got sent to Moai Battleship afterwards which really pissed me off but I managed to stay alive through it. Once stage 5 started I had no idea what I was doing and died around the 2nd group of flying plate things. The eagle at the checkpoint afterwards shoots out roulette powerups so theres absolutely nothing I can do, much much worse case of getting screwed than what I thought earlier today in stage 4.

OK so I'm honestly getting really confused, because the parts people seem to be complaining about the most are giving me no issues at all. I really can't comprehend the stage 3 boss being difficult and I've found stage 4 one of the easier ones to recover in due to the constant supply of powerups from the small birds in front of you. Stage 4 is always really tense for me but probably the stage in which I screw up the least. I keep screwing myself over going for bells usually :I

Yeah, the pastry machine boss is "cake" (sorry), but I mean yeah, took 1 go to learn where you need to be on him. In fact the first 3 bosses are very easy imo.

If you die on stage 3, it can be tough to recover since so much stuff coming from all directions and trying to blast through the cake at the same time w/one bullet, that can be tough, but i'm still mostly dying trying to keep chains going.

Also - what is the determining factor of if the fire board / head/lip / springy neck thing is the 3rd (sometimes 4th) board or not? In my experience, it appears whenever i'm having a solid run, and it wipes me out. But is there a certain factor that actually determines its coming up next?

I personally need a green bell to help with the 3rd boss. If you're talking about the Maoi Battleship then it can be random after killing a boss in stages 2-6 depending on the number that is in the hundreds digits. I think the numbers are somewhere in this thread earlier if I remember right.

Yeah, exactly. I don't think I've died since the first time I fought it unless I was zoning out and forgot he was about to charge. The amount of difficulty people seem to be having made me repeatedly check my wait setting on the PSP version to make sure I wasn't accidentally cheating or something, but everything is set to arcade defaults just as it should be :s

Have you died before then? For as long as I've played it, I have never survived the tight laser formation that happens if you no-miss up until that point.

It just involves moving a tiny bit forward from the other one. If you don't mind being close to the front of the larger laser formation you don't need to move at all.

Also, the hundreds digit thing isn't always accurate. If you get the number for whatever stage then you'll definitely get the moai stage, but sometimes even if you don't get the proper value you still will. Seems to be tied to rank somehow.

I no-missed up until the stage 3 boss and it was all hopped up on RANK and instead of its normal patterns it just kept charging over and over. :x now I take ResumeDPosition's advice and green bell that lippy bitch.

P.S: Hey, dex! Thanks, man.

Made the scoreboard look more manageable, also I'm dumb and didn't finish the dynamic tools yet, so that will have to wait till Saturday, I have a few things to do in the next 24 hours.

Updated the scoreboard, too.

Average survival time in the Special Stage is now 30 seconds. Progress!

Here's a pretty reliable strategy for the rabbit horde at max rank, in case anyone else has been mystified by this section (requires Manual):
1. In stage 5, keep a bell cluster going until you reach the option thieves. No other enemies will bother you for a few seconds, so take advantage of the lull by grabbing a red bell.
2. Use one beam as you see fit (I suggest the mini Covered Cores) and save the remaining two for the end of stage 6.
3. After killing the hopping rabbits that come from behind, drop one beam so that it occupies the floor and ceiling spawn points. Go to the right side of the screen and use your last beam when the first wears off.
