From a techical restoration standpoint, it took a whopping seven years to do each frame-by-frame restoration of Blade Runner: Final Cut version. Makes me wonder just how much $$$ was budgeted to make it happen.

It didn't take anywhere close to that long, ~1 year after they began work in 00' , the Final Cut was 50% completed. Work was stopped due to litigation....
In 07, there was an excellent Interview w/ Scott about the release and problems w/ Harrison Ford.

With their 5000 different releases, Warner Bro capitalized off Blade Runner just as fucking much as Lucas has off SW. Ok, maybe not quite as much....
Yes, I agree that Lucas should release all version of all films and let the fans decide which one to watch and which to drop a Cleveland Steamer on.

At this point, you'd pretty much need a checklist for everyone to get their ideal versions of the films. There were some changes from the theatrical special editions and DVDs that I liked and some I never want to see again.

YES/NO Greedo shoots first
YES/NO Redone Cloud City backgrounds
YES/NO New Zealand accent for adult Boba
YES/NO Biggs reunion

Some of the changes that are cropping up are terrible. Han released from Carbonite, they've added a "bloom" effect which looks like some 14 year old mucking around with After Effects... It's not a big deal but stuff like that takes you out of the film - just doesn't look right.

Are all these changes meant for people who've never actually seen a Star Wars film before? I think that's the only way this stuff might work. That and if you have no visual sense at all.

This is the kind of stuff that should make it into revisions. Originally cut footage that blends with the original non-cgi versions of the film. Like Apocalypse Now Redux, LotR extended editions and the aforementioned Blade Runner revisions. Bleh I just can't lament these things anymore. So friggin depressing.

When I watched Jurassic Park in 1993, I thought only people with "no visual sense" (mildly put) would like it. It was such a horse in the room. Recently I found that for many, many people back then it was like the best shit in the history of ever, so there. "No visual sense" thing appears to be quite common.

Had I waited 18 years or so, I probably would have been more forgiving, having watched tons of even tackier stuff since then. Back in the day, however, I still had vivid memories of The Empire Strikes Back, The NeverEnding Story (the book was fine and all, but I don't worship it to the point of dissing the film), Labyrinth and the likes watched in theatres, thus the stark contrast between the old ways and the Jurassic Park cheese was all the more painstaking.

I LUV Darth Sidious...and this is HIS movie. Empire Strikes Back has a lot of Han Solo/Leia/Lando parts....I'm just itching to fast forward past those scenes to get back to the Imperial parts.

Has anyone seen these new discs yet? One thing that's bothered me (just as much as the matte painting in the detention center hallway) is when the Millenium Falcon is leaving Tattooine, Han says something like, "Don't worry, I know a few maneuvers," and the Falcon proceeds to fly in a fairly straight line, getting pummeled by the Star Destroyer's cannons. Back before the '97 versions, there was speculation that this would be changed to show the Falcon flipping around, juking and jinking like it does in Empire. Stuff like that would be a welcome change, as far as I'm concerned. I wonder if this was addressed finally?
