"Eater of bees." I think it was first coined by Junya Inoue in an old Cave interview on GP's site.

Graphics looks good and perspective is interesting.
Cave took some risks with that weird angle;it's like you look at the scene from another plane.

About the system,it looks a bit too complicated(4 buttons ldo) but I guess there will be several ways to approach the game, and not have to constantly juggle between all combinations.

Musics seems a bit too hectic for me,but hard to tell from that vid yet.

looking forward though :D

edit:not a fan of the human bosses too,and the plane turning into a giant character too

D
One button to shoot, one to use a shooting mechanic, one to bomb, one to autofire. Same as Espgaluda 2 and several others.

Eh, no shit? That explains it then. I shall be careful to cognitively dissonance myself, less I incur the wrath. Or something. :)

Oh shit, it's the Five-O! Better get the fuck outta here as the place is gonna be crawing with them "black & whites" really quick.

Just checked out both YT vids of the Cave's newfangled arcade shmup and it seems to be a spiritual successor/sequel to Progear No Arashi. Did Cave break tradition and incorporate a cool opening intro/attract screen for their latest PCB offering?

It'd sure be nice to hear from fellow shmuppers like Shou or GP and their take/opinions on it indeed. The wait of an hour or two to play it, especially at a loke site, is a small price to pay indeed.

Sig-worthy stuff there, PCFX! 8)

I wonder how complicated people will think DDP DFK BL is when/if it's ported. To score, hold a+c at ALL TIMES, then use B differently for different game modes + button 4 for Hyper. I bet the basic play mechanics of Akai Katana (feels good to write that name) will be very easy to adapt to.

Looks like Cave has put a lot of effort with the backgrounds and has included real Japanese locations..
At the first second of 1st stage the plane flights over the Tokyo tower, then in the end of second stage you can see the Daimon-ji mountain near Kyoto during the fire festival, and the beginning of 3rd stage starts with the snowed Shirakawago houses

Game looks really great although I personally don't like at all those huge ships/planes filling the screen with strange perspectives at boss fights and all the mess of satellites that follow the main character

Anyway, really good new that Cave keeps supporting 15Khz games and hand drawn 2D sprites
Working in the japanese language achievement

The perspective is indeed surreal, as if reality just wraps around in this game. Which kind of makes sense because summoned battleships are attacking you upside down under impossible angles anyway.

Really hoping this is more advanced hardware than SH3, no more unnatural slowdown/speedup transitions please. :(

Close to nothing. Cave has used pre-rendered 3D for at least 90% of its sprites since DonPachi, not sure where the hand-drawn comment comes from. 15 KHz is short for "240p or close to it".

Hearing that Akai Katana is 15KHz reassured me that Cave wouldn't go back to those ugly polygons. That kind of 3D would've been excusable from another developer, but Death Smiles 2 was a missed opportunity for Cave IMO.

I'm betting that AK is on the CV-1000D board unless they say otherwise. Of course, I wouldn't mind a CV-1000F/whatever board with an SH-4 swapped in and the RAM doubled again.

The backgrounds remind me of Ironclad, only a lot better. I didn't mind the perspective- it's kind of neat for a change from the usual hori style. BGM sounds like it may be from Manabu Namiki- just a wild guess (but then again he didn't work alone on DFK).

Day one import on the 360 version whenever it comes out- it's Cave 2D, consistently good.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

This game is looking pretty hot, I'm excited for some HARDCORE MILITARY ACTION (google image search that and then come back and tell me lolis are gay)

but yeah, liking the return of the DFK-style lasers, I'm a superficial guy, I thought they were the coolest aspect of that game, but I think the backgrounds are looking kind of funky, like a vert turned on its side. The music, from what I can make out, sounds a bit too fruity for this serious shit but w/e, it'll be fun, I probably won't play it for a year, etc....

Actually, ESPRade was the first to use it at all, and that was just the characters I believe. If I'm not mistaken, Ketsui was the first time when it was used exclusively.

please dont suggest i'm alex k. i'd be quoting Baudrillard a lot and be much more self-immolating

anyways, since i just made the word up (ouroborosian), i think its only fair i define it
the ouroboros has been traditionally accepted as representing the cyclical nature of all things, sure
but since traditional images of the ouroboros are static [non-animating], variation/similarity between cycles isn't really spoken for
still, ouroboros = reality, and
looking around at the process of reality as it unfolds around me, its pretty easy to see that any given 'moment' is a product of all things before it, rearranged in such a way as to feign novelty

i suppose i'm just trying to suggest this game doesn't feign that novelty so well ... and as a result, its easier to recognize its roots

I like the surreal perspective of this. It's a game, why shouldn't reality be stilted and twisted. I also like that it seems to be a combination of a few different arrange type gameplay combined.

How about you just say what you think of the game... like everyone else has? If you really can't express your thoughts towards a video game without words that (you think you have created) hold no meaning to anyone but yourself, there are bigger issues at hand.

So it's like earlier Cave games because Cave made it, but different because it's new?

Does anyone else think the options rotating around the ship are too big? The ship/options seem to take up a fifth of the screen.
