This is the one Cave game I have a hard time getting into. I think it's the soundtrack. I really, really hate it. A lot even. That first stage cock rock guitar is just WAY too much. The DOJ soundtrack is so much more befitting.

Hmm, I know how you feel. For me, it's that the music is so low quality. I don't mind listening to some cheesy metal every once in a while, but damn! It sounds like it's coming out of a speaker at the drive-thru!GaijinPunch wrote:This is the one Cave game I have a hard time getting into. I think it's the soundtrack. I really, really hate it. Battle Garegga, on the other hand, sounds fantastic.

dude.. while most cave soundtracks fit respective game (in a disgustingly neutral way) i wouldnt be caught dead with that shit in my stereo, cave have seriously crappy musicians on hand, the audio experience is completely lacking from nearly every cave release imo.GaijinPunch wrote:This is the one Cave game I have a hard time getting into. long gone are the days of soundtracks you actually wanted to listen to outside of playing the game (amiga generation) or soundtracks the were made to pump the game up (raiden fighters/garegga).
quite often when i play games i turn down the volume in the cab just enough to hear the fx and throw a record on instead.

In the game world, there are a handful at best, a number of games that I would listen to their soundtracks in my car. About half of them have professional musicians (not game musicians) at the wheel. Even w/ that, DDP's soundtrack still reach's new levels of cock rock. Frightening.

I don't understand why you wouldn't like Namiki's work on DOJ and Ketsui then.

I cannot understand how someone can listen to the Stage 3 track of DDP -- while actually playing the game -- and not think that it suits it perfectly. Yes, you wouldn't want to listen to it in your car, but I am sure the composer did not come up with it by visualizing someone sitting in their car.
I understand that GP would like to see professional musicians score videogames, but you know what -- videogame musicians ARE professional musicians, just like the guys who score Hollywood movies are.
Cheesiness is okay in game soundtracks because they reflect the cheesiness of the games themselves. The music was born out of the games, and hence is suited to them better than the music of some illiterate cocaine-sniffing rock star or whatever. THAT kind of "serious" music is born out of a completely different facet of life, and hence has no place in an early-90s Japanese 2D shoot 'em up.
GP's wish will be fulfilled eventually, but not in the kinds of games he likes to play.
