I'm in love with Black Sabbath's Tyr right now. I've put off hearing their post-Gillan stuff for years, and certainly wasn't expecting to enjoy Tony Martin's second and third albums so much. I like Headless Cross a lot too, but this moderates HC's catchiness and restores some weight to the sound. Very solidly-built, hook-laden album as a result. Pure entertainment. And as a Dio fan, I love Martin's voice. His "Die Young" from the Headless in Berlin bootleg is better than any live performance I've heard from Dio himself. On the other end of the spectrum I've been listening to Volume 4 a lot lately, too... the classic 70s Sabbath sludge is always a comfortable sound to me.

Bola - Kroungrine

I've only given a few listens to it but I'd already say it's some of his best work yet.

Here it is, my RPG concept album. Don't worry, there are a few songs that don't sound like they were written by a bipolar iceberg-simulating robot, and they are actually pretty catchy (the non crazy ones).

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've added some outtakes, but try not to listen to them before the rest of the album, as it should be experienced in an untainted manner.

The last three nights I saw The Dirtbombs, Dengue Fever, and the Hex Dispensers respectively (I know, they play out here at least every other week. So sue me, I love 'em.). They were all great. And damn if I'm not a bit hung over.

This morning (EDIT:this afternoon, actually):

electric wizard - let us prey
electric wizard - dopethrone

Thanks to Acid King for the recommendation! Exactly what I was looking for as an alternative to the ultra-precise, (relatively) distortion-free sound of

don caballero - what burns never returns
don caballero - american don

I can listen to these over and over and over. But then I need something very different.

EDIT: Added Dopethrone to the list. Awesome.

Origin - Antithesis (2008) [Brutal/Technical death metal]

Surprised and very impressed by both of these albums.

So I think this year I'm going to bite the bullet and and use my birthday as an excuse to buy something ludicrously expensive that I've wanted ever since it came out like 8 years ago. Behold! The Merzbox!

Image

20 unreleased albums, 30 reissued albums, spanning 1979 to 1997. The masters of all of these albums were destroyed after they pressed the discs for this release so they'll never be made available again.

I'd be halfway to owning the Merzbox with that economic stimulus check! God that would be such a perfect thing to spend it on, I can't think of a better way to aid our staggering economy.

Been a fan of Merzbow since I heard 1930, and it's still my favorite work of his. I have this XXL Merzbow shirt for his venereology album but I don't wear it as much as I should.

I have the venereology shirt too, but it fits weird so I don't wear it. I'm going to order another one with the cover of pulse demon on it, which is a cooler cover. When I buy a house, I want wallpaper like that.
