Any good instrumental stoner doom? This genre would be so awesome without the D&D lyrics.

One of the few bands where I fell in love with the concept before hearing them and they actually lived up to my expectations when I heard themprofessor ganson wrote:part chimp

When I saw them live, the singer drank two bottles of wine while on stage and could still just about play his guitar. Awesome. My ears are still buzzing

More cheese as usual:
Symphony X - Twilight in Olympus
Orden Ogan - Vale
Just placed an order on these two so I guess it's OK to say I'm listening to downloaded mp3s...... I'm worried that CDUniverse will be unable to source the Orden Ogan album though.
Anybody know how international orders work through Amazon? It's listed on Amazon Germany (for a lot less than CDUniverse) but not on USA or Canada.

British Indie Rock is one very generic way to describe them, I guess. Very loud in concert, apparently. I suppose it sounds in the tradition of Drive Like Jehu, but not as technical. Not as good, either, but definitely worth a listen.spadgy wrote:what are Part Chimp about then?professor ganson wrote:From what I hear there's no way I could handle a Part Chimp show; my ears are way too sensitive.![]()
Double Dragons - s/t
Part Chimp is pretty awesome.
Also listening to:
Ween - 12 Golden Country Greats
Spits mix
William Childish mix
Manowar - Warriors of the World
Blue Stingrays - Surf 'n Burn
Superdrag mix
I also bought a Teengenerate tshirt. The one with the planes
Mascis's new band isn't shabby, check out 'soul of fire'

I thought about this for awhile and the only band that comes to mind is Dragon Green. I should try out for them now that I see they need a drummer.JoshF wrote:Any good instrumental stoner doom? This genre would be so awesome without the D&D lyrics.

Sound pretty good. Reminds me, I've been listening to Come My Fanatics by Electric Wizard.

Nightstick, Acrimony and Electric Wizard (except for We Live) are essentials in my opinion. You've probably heard Wlectric Wizard before though. Other than that I'd suggest Bloody Panda, Monarch!, Atavist, Ufommamut, Suplecs, Burning Witch, Toadliquor, Rebreather, Acid King, Soulpreacher, Sons of OTIS, Witchcraft, Eternal Elysium, Church of Misery, Middian (ex-Yob) and some others I can't think of right now.

I was searching Pandora and heard a band called Earthride that sounded okay, maybe Acid King can tell you more about them.Very cool, thanks! I'll check these out as soon as my in-laws are gone from the house. I think the only band here that I know is Electric Wizard.

Yeah but that means you can download Dopesmoker and it only counts as one.professor ganson wrote:
One problem with download services like eMusic: albums like this with 27 short songs take away over half my monthly downloads!

Yeah, they had to fight against their label to make it one track, I heard. Financially, I guess the management had it right in the end, and the dopesmokers had it wrong. Artistically, I guess there's room for argument.Acid King wrote:Yeah but that means you can download Dopesmoker and it only counts as one.professor ganson wrote:

EDIT: I see now that they broke up the album:

Cool, I know them from their collaboration with Nobukazu Takemura. I've been meaning to explore their solo work aswell, and maybe Igneo is a good start...JoshF wrote:Zu - Igneo
I'm actively listening to a lot of music, but my current favourites would have to be:
Tetsu Inoue - Fragment Dots
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come

Thats that's the fucked up one that was released after the band fought with the label and broke up. Tee Pee records released an older version of it called Dopesmoker thats something like 10 minutes longer than Jerusalem. On Dopesmoker, there are only two tracks; Dopesmoker and a live song called Sonic Titan.professor ganson wrote:

mmmm maybe something from Anomalous, but I'm not so sure.
Heh i don't see any similarities, but they are not bad, thanks.

Rob wrote:Try the last Anata album, The Conductor's Departure, and Gorod - Leading Vision.
These are closer to Necrophagist than what most people i've asked have recommended. Slightly softer, but pretty close. I'm enjoying both of these thoroughly.

The closest match i've found so far, which also happens to be my favorite of the bunch is The Faceless - Akeldama, a relatively new band recommended to me elsewhere when i asked the same question.

I think this must be the band Dr. G. mentioned. Fans of Marnie Stern will like it, it's got the same sort of tapping guitar/weird aesthetic and the songwriting is even less traditional

Thanks for locating this. It's really hard to find info on this band. It doesn't help searches that their name is so close to the videogame. Their album is really hard to find as well. I had to enlist Rob's help to get my hands on it, actually. The album is not bad for a duet of drums and guitar. I think there were better math rock releases in 2007, but this was definitely worth hearing.Neon wrote:http://www.myspace.com/doubledragons
