I decided to bring Thunder Force V to my college's computer science campus. Was doing quite well up until the Stage 4 boss, lost the Brigandine early against Rynex in Stage 5, and ended up ragequitting the boss.

Weirdly enough, after I posted my message I managed to beat Metal Black. HS coming soon.
And yes, it's an unfair game, I think I never played a shmup for scoring that relied so heavily in luck.

The bonus levels really are retarded, I'll give you that. They're easy to max, but they take forever and break up the action for no good reason.

When people talk about unfair they mean the guys sniping from behind. That's not unfair, that's old school. People have a sense of entitlement now that enemies should only come from one direction.

I can put up with the bonus levels, it's obvious that they were only to show off the sprite scaling effects, which I think are still visually impressive today.

Metal Black is a very manageable game, once you start exploiting the ship's ability to hit enemies directly above and below it.

Taking a break from Mushihimesama and playing a few casual credits of Flying Shark, Fantasy Zone, Hellfire, Dragon Saber and the Salamander Portables (psp). Got to the last boss of Salamander 2 for the first time. Oh yeah, and a few credits of Raiden III. I like it. The bullet dodging reminds me of Mushi original mode, a bit.

Dangun. I'm never 1CCing this. When I went through DDP, and ESP Ra.De, I thought "Eventually, but not now. Someday, I'll do it.". When I fed my way through Dangun though, my thoughts are "OH GOD THE SPEED WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO?".

Although, I really liked the fact that there were no bullet mazes. The bullet density never gets even close to even level 3 of another Cave shooter, although, considering the speed, you really wouldn't want it to...

Have to agree. Metal Black's bonus levels seem like their main purpose was to show off graphical effects (like the scaling), because the action really isn't the highlight. I'm sure they were at "Wow, look at that!" status back when the game was first released in arcades, but they don't hold up at all.

Mainly Giga Wing which is extremely fun right now. Stage 4 is one of the most awesome stages ever in a shooter!
I hope to reach stage 6 sometime.

I also played a bit Under Defeat and Gaiares, but both of these can get frustrating really fast, although they are awesome games.
Last but not least I need to test out my recently bought Hellfire (Mega Drive).
