The little silver bullets would probably be too hard to see. I can barely see them on my tv, much less on a portable screen. Now Shattered Soldier, that would be perfect.

I think you might be getting confused with IOS devices or the 3DS. The Vita machine is beautiful.

I love it, but yeah.

Portable gaming for extended periods = Hand cramps and numbness

Unless it's on a Neo Geo pocket.

I mean who really needs a portable gaming system as an adult. It's not like I'm going to try to sneak a game in during study hall and worry my system being confiscated or something like that anymore. Just whip out your fucking laptop and go to town.

Lots of people. I'm not going to bust out my laptop to play Street Fighter on my train commute.

Laptops are shit for gaming. Terrible controls unless you add in a mouse or gamepad and by that point you might as well use a desktop.

I got pretty bad headaches (sometimes) from my laptop - unlike playing on a real N64 where I just blame low framerates and interlacing tear on CRTs, I often thought laptop headaches resulted from a confluence of events (I wasn't even really aware of the connection between laptop use and headaches until thinking afterwards about the headaches I got using the thing) - despite it having a 17" screen with full 1920x1200 resolution, even in subjects where framerate from the execrable Geforce 8600M GS was a non-issue (i.e., using Project64).

Despite the size, it's similar to using the PSP, where I am sure that holding the tiny screen relatively close to my face triggers some issues with eye alignment (for me; even slight astigmatism can be a bother), but the laptop's screen is also low and forward on the desk relative to my head - that also being one of the classic no-nos of Computer Health and Safety. Hell if I know what's causing it, but there's at least two causes to consider there.

Yeah, laptops are shit for gaming.

To try to balance it out slightly with some negative PS4 news: SEN network can't even handle black friday, it'll be a sad christmas for anyone planning to play multiplayer games with their new PS4.

Amazing PS4 launch in Europe. It instantly sold out everywhere. No official numbers yet, but depending on how many PS4s were available today PS4 could easily have twice the global install base of Xbone now.

I thought they had fixed that. At least they are recessed a little bit now. The triggers look improved anyway.

How is it that The Perfect Controller hasn't yet been adopted by all parties? FFS, just take an X360 controller and throw a Nintendo CC Pro d-pad at it. Done, and fucking done. Rabblerabblerabble.

First 1/10 review score for xbone, and an absolutely brilliantly written article from Ellie Gibson - makes me feel rekindled hope for games journalism:

I thought it must be a free or digital game but no! The real punchline here is this is a full price retail game.

Killzone 4 gets a probably completely accurate based on the series pedigree 7/10.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... all-review

Killzone has always been the beauty that failed to deliver IMO - it carried problematic elements from the very first game through the entire series. It's amazing that a title with such incredible visual imagination has such a lack of it in the game itself.

Oh hey, it's the same Ellie Gibson whose Eurogamer review of the first PSP Tenchu said that GTA Constantinople would suck! (Which I just linked and mentioned in the "things that annoy you" thread.)

That being said, I can't imagine how they could get this wrong. This sounds great!

I don't think Ellie Gibson has ever reviewed a game well, aside from Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Pretty harsh, although I'm completely unfamiliar with her work.

Who really cares about reviews though? The drainpipe battering she gave Fighter Within is what games journalism should be aspiring to: candid, humorous, and totally without mercy. I approve.

Her feature on Games Master was the best thing I've read this year on a gaming publication:

Although the Games Master feature was certainly one of the best features to come out this year, I find her reviews to be a slightly more "acceptable" version of trolling.

I think games should be taken on their own merits, as opposed to having the "reviewer" impart their own subjective bias to the degree that Ellie's been getting away with. That's unprofessional, and the sort of behaviour that is not at all good for the industry or for the field of journalism.

The difference between an "opinion" and a reviewer is that the journalist in question needs to adhere to certain guidelines. And if one writes for Eurogamer, they should play the game in full, as not doing so otherwise is a massive disservice to its readership, and speaks volumes for the kind of behaviour a mainstream outlet is able to get away with. Her recent reviews have given the impression that she hasn't even played the games past the 30 minute mark.

I think the Wii U is a heap of shit, but aside from its pitiful third party support and library, as well as the mediocre hardware and associated price, even I acknowledge that it doesn't deserve a 1/10. And if you're talking about Eurogamer being the bastion of good journalism (as it most times is), then they should never have gotten away with publishing this heap of fanboyistic rubbish:
