Not sure if the pro-PC baiting comments had the intended effect, but I ended up subscribing to KSI's channel as I find him to be hilarious (at the expense of his interviewees). That's the kind of guy who'll probably bed a million girls by the time he's 28, so I'm not sure what all the White Knights are fussed about. Jealousy and resentment, coupled with insecurities maybe?

KSI reminded me of Dennis Pennis, as well as Russel Brand. And those comics could be just as caustic. And yes, if I found KSI to be ever so slightly more PC, I wouldn't have subscribed to him. He's 18-20. And a jackass. But that's why he's hilarious.
Honestly, I've never heard of the guy, and I don't really need to ever hear of him again. I don't find making people uncomfortable by way of sexual advances or insults about their body image to be an intelligent brand of humour. It's something anyone can do, and just as badly.

I'm sure the guy is sensible enough when not in his day job routine, but he's another reason why so much of the internet is still in the gutter.

"Oh the Xbox One is an all in one! You can use it to watch tv!" You can also use the tv to do that. You don't need to pay a fuckload of cash just for a gloried marketing box.

I'd agree with you, as I'd also never heard of him until the Eurogamer article. But girls love "bad boys", and that's exactly the manner and strategy he's adopting so as to bed tonnes of girls in future. He's young, and shameless, and I can think of a number of "cock rock" bands that epitomise(d) the same ideals. And gangsta rap is also full of lyrics that promote the same type of mentality.

I'm not arguing that KSI's not a jackass, because he is. But at the age of 19, he's just going through growing pains - an enfant les terribles(?).

Other mediums are full of this type of behaviour, where the "celebrities" can (and do) get away with so much worse. And the irony is that girls tend to "appreciate" guys who treat them like dirt. So in essence, the "white knights" can be up in arms if they so wish, but they'll soon find that they're wasting their time - case in point: Amy Willerton. How many guys do you think put her on a pedestal, and were ready to lay down their hearts and treat her like a princess, before realising that Russel Brand has had sex with her. Russel fcuking Brand. Of all people.

I'm sure my theory does not apply to every girl, as not every girl would appreciate KSI's advances", but likewise, I'm also sure that not every internet dweller revels in promoting gutter trash.

On topic: the XBone has sold quite a few units in the UK (150,000). Now, it's a waiting game to see if MS can sustain momentum.

Man that's a weird thing isn't it? How did he get all of those, and for so cheap?

High Barnet is on my doorstep, I'm tempted to send my little bro some money and tell him to go bag one.

Remember how Microsoft were all "TV TV TV" at the XBone unveiling? It turns out that if you're in a PAL territory it's more like "TV TTV TVV T"
The Xbox One's TV integration suffers noticeable judder in the UK, tests have revealed.

Website HDTVTest.co.uk first flagged up the problem, which occurs when you run a live TV feed from your set-top box, such as a Freeview HD, Sky or Virgin Media box, into Microsoft's console using the HDMI-in port.

The UK and Europe use a 50Hz broadcasting system. The Xbox One outputs at 60Hz, so if you feed it a 50Hz HDMI source, one out of every six frames will be a duplicate, causing judder.

Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter told us the following:

"Assuming the reports are true, this represents a significant issue Microsoft has to address. Displaying 50Hz video at 60Hz means that every sixth frame will be a duplicate, resulting in noticeable judder on a lot of material - scrolling text on news channels, fast pans in TV and movies, and the left to right sweep of the camera in football matches."

So, what can Microsoft do about this? According to Leadbetter, the company faces a headache combating the issue.

"There are no easy solutions in this scenario - the kind of frame-rate upscaling required to eliminate the judder at 60Hz would probably compromise image quality," he said.

"The simpler solution would be to lock the user interface to 50Hz when TV elements are on-screen, switching back to 60Hz for gameplay - though this wouldn't be quite as seamless an experience as Microsoft originally envisaged."

Microsoft has made much of the Xbox One as an all-encompassing multimedia device, and pointed to its HDMI-in functionality as a point of difference between its console and rival PlayStation 4. Xbox One owners can use the "Snap" feature to watch TV while gaming on the same screen.

I wonder how long it'll be until be until someone gets banned for a naughty word homonym like "phoque". I heard that the console automatically switches profiles if you pass the controller to someone else... what if you don't want to change profile midgame? Can you disable this?

It's looking more and more horrendous with every story. The ban for language is incredibly poor.

Even if the foul language stories are bullshit, those might be targeting some audience. For instance, the missus or mom or whoever you need to convince new console is what you need badly. Either way, it's a distinctive feature, one easy to "fix" at that and meanwhile Xbox One is being talked about.

As far as the Xbox One goes, it seems to have at least one major problem. Happened upon some lady sent by Microsoft to one of our local Wal-Mart stores and she was pretty point blank that the disc tray is pretty faulty in most of the launch units. That and the console won't be out everywhere(at least here in the states) till February.

I find it pretty hard to believe that "most" of them are faulty. I'm not doubting that someone told you that, but if that was the case there would be a HUGE uproar.

Well they haven't shipped out probably most of the consoles yet by the February info. But still, I'm sure they told her only some stuff, and not the whole picture, but it did put me in shock for a little bit that she mentioned she was told that.

On the plus side, these folks get a free game: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/broken ... 0-6416411/

There's also a "home remedy" option listed in the link that might fix the disc drive issue.

And since the games are downloadable, even consoles with broken disc drives can still play the titles.
That's just priceless. The consolation prize for a defective optical reader is a downloadable game. Bit of a drastic measure to wean people off of physical media. If they were truly sorry they would have mailed a physical game that could use the working drive on your replacement unit. This is the reason that I've always viewed slot loaders with suspicion - and felt that the top-loading CECH-40xxx model was actually an improvement over the previous models despite most reviews berating it for that exact reason.

Turns out that the Microsoft Store never really cancelled my Day One console pre-order.
Stopped by today after work and picked it up.
Probably will flip it on eBay.

Not sure where to slot this in - but John Carmack has left iD Software to work at Oculus VR! I think it'll be a good place for him. Pretty exciting times we live in - and some of this tech might even be useful for the consoles. However...

Edit: Other big news! Steve Ballmer is gone. Hopefully stack ranking will leave with him (if it isn't dead already). No word on whether the old mantra of "DEVELOPERS" is going to be replaced with "WEARABLES" yet. They might also ditch the Xbox division - that might be one way to get the brand back to roots, which might not be completely feasible in today's climate but I think it may well prove better to build up from the ground rather than try to pare back, which procedure Microsoft seems to be stuck on.

Yeah, aren't slot loading drives in general more prone to issues than top loading drives or even ones with the pop out trays?

Fewer motors - fewer points of failure, so long as you aren't banging the cycle-around plastic release catch for the door.

Yes, the original slot drive I had in my Wii eventually chewed up several games as it aged. I had to completely replace it.

I actually know someone who is disappointed Microsoft backed down on their no physical media/downloadable games only idea... I tried getting him to understand that it's much harder if not impossible to preserve games for future generations when there's no hard copies around, but he didn't seem to understand/cares this is how older games have managed to survive and become emulated.

But then he's the sort that buys a new console and promptly forgets about any older ones he owns. :/

fix your boned xbone by smashing it, great engineering

Xbox One reminds me of Windows Vista... breaking what wasn't broken, creating whole new problems, badly in need of a fix, rushed out the door without testing... In a few months, are we going to see Xbox 7?
