Can anyone confirm -

Is the Toresetsu that is included in the super limited edition for the arcade board ? Or 360 ?

I bought this Toresestsu a couple of months ago from Kingka (off this forum) and that one is slightly different from the one included in the super limited edition (comparing against the YouTube opening vid).

Wondering if the one I've bought is a promo ?

Disappearing bosses, weird resolution or half hour load times? 'fuck it - print the disc and we will just release a patch next week'

In the old days you would buy your console game fully polished with next to no glitches.

having said that i absolutely love this fucking game
To be fair, in the old days, things like online leaderboards, HDD installs, and user-selectable resolutions didn't really exist on consoles. Nor were there console firmware updates to worry about.

Fair points :D

I certainly agree the ability to update/modify any given game is a good thing for a variety of reasons but it does appear to have accommodated a level of laziness amongst a select few.

2D shooters on current gen hardware should be a walk in the park to get right the first time round.

Is there any music in this 360 release that isn't present on the CDs that come with the Ltd Editions? My copy hasn't arrived yet so can't check. Usually there's new menu music for the 360 versions that isn't always on the CD(s).

The menu theme is on the arrange album.

I got garbled graphics at the start of stage 2 too. Re-installing the game seems to have cleared it up for me though.

Weirder, and weirder.. Decided to try something else tonight, and noticed that Muchi Muchi Pork does the same thing at the exact same timing....

Not that I know of at this moment...at least someone would be nice showing pics (or even a vid for that matter) showing the contents of the Reg. Ed. just showing maybe more or less the same with just the game box art being the only difference on the cover and on the manual.

Does the limited or super limited have a colored disc? The art on my disc (peasant ed) is just black and white?

And possibly the same with the LE (non-super), so it seems the Reg. does have a B/W colored disc.

Yes, the logo and the Colonel is printed inside of the steelbook case. This is what the SLE ver. looks like:

Has anyone found a quick gameplay mechanics guide for this yet? Been searching around without much luck.

It mostly feels like DOJ, but it's different enough that I feel like I'm doing it completely wrong

It's similar enough to where you probably aren't doing it too wrong. Take DOJ but with easier chaining, a visible rank meter and a few small tweaks. The easiest way to control rank for beginners is to skip bee trophies because they lead to more hypers which lead to higher rank. The only way to lower rank is bombs and deaths. Using hypers on bosses will raise rank more than using it in a stage and depending on how many are in stock you can do things to control it too, like if using a hyper when you have 3 in stock raises your rank 2 points you might want to time it out to wait until you have 4 in stock so that would also raise it only 2 points. It gets to the point pretty quick where you need to plan out your battle against the rank system if you want to clear it and you aren't a superplayer.

I think the "running bonus" you speak of is just the Get Point System, which was there in every game of the series to some degree. But in DFK there was the weird invisible multiplier depending on how high your chain was. I do not think that one exists in SDOJ. Dunno about the bees, but I do not think they figure into things too much outside WR terrain. And they might be required to get to inbachi, again, not sure.

I'm not an expert on the scoring system but bees can be big in overall point contribution because more bees lead to more hypers which lead to more possible points. You can also raise up hypers by sticking your nose in certain boss areas too like in DOJ. I can't stand the chaining in DOJ but it's lenient enough in SDOJ (and even DFK) to not completely ignore. In DOJ it might as well not be there.

Part of the reason chaining is more lenient in SDOJ is because a hyper actually lengthens (about double?) the combo meter, so it's much harder to drop a chain while in a hyper. Getting hit/bombing/autobombing will all drop a chain it seems, as will dropping a chain while in hyper, but if you drop a chain while out of hyper, you just lose a large chunk of your chain and not the entire chain itself. I quite like it, and I usually suck at chaining systems.

Xbox mode is super fun. High risk vs. reward system, I've beaten my All score just by getting a 20000+ combo in stage 3, but you've almost gotta no-miss the game as one little mistake in the run if you're being aggressive with combo spending will kill you. I've gotten several gameovers in runs that woulda blown my previous scores out of the water if I hadn't hit one little bullet late game. :(

In Arcade/1.5, do Shot and Laser have the same enemy patterns, and it's just Expert that has the ramped up difficulty? I notice in Xbox mode that Shot/Laser/Ex corresponds to increasing difficulty levels (Laser's noticeably more dense), but I can't seem to tell if it's the same in Arcade.

That's how it has seemed to me on the pcb. They just give you fewer bombs for laser, I'm assuming because they made some calculations that made it look otherwise easier to clear with L so they adjusted the bomb stock to even the playing field, like in DOJ.
