Also, PS2 port isn't comparable as it displays 240p, which of course will look superior on a CRT. I said "any other 480i port".

You unlock more "credits" the more you play. Play it for a few hours and it will turn on FREE PLAY. Not long after that, X-Mode will appear as well. X-Mode is fun if you just want to mess around and completely destroy the game. I wouldn't play it seriously, but it's a nice distraction and I'm glad it's in the game. It's also great for new players, I let a friend of mine play it who's interested in shooters but isn't that good at it. He played Piper and made some pretty good progress, having fun in the process. I'm sure that if I had put him on normal BL, he'd have been destroyed instantly and not want to continue playing.

Wait until he discovers the best way to score is to sit in one place and let the enemies shoot at your hypered laser, then go back up the screen to grab more hypers when it's going to run out. The fun increases TENFOLD.

X-mode is great. I'd rather play that than the Futari arrange modes or DS ver 1.1. For those ragging on the scoring, try and get near the score below, and let me know how that goes:

It would be nice if I could download his replay, or even watch it on nico, but no, replays are fucked up and 5pb removed X-Mode from Youtube and Nicovideo for some reason.

Does someone have a write-up on the x-mode scoring system somewhere? And are they just trying to make the hyper laser look like DFK, but without the proper effects? It looks kind of awful.

i found the easiest way to score well in X mode was to stay in hyper pretty much nonstop, and not kill any enemies so that you can continuously cancel their bullets. it becomes a game of "find the right time to activate hyper so that it runs out when i have a lull in the action and i can get up the screen to grab the next one". it's actually pretty fun if you're looking to relax a little bit from chaining.dmauro wrote:Does someone have a write-up on the x-mode scoring system somewhere? Fullchaining stages and collecting bees is really important too, though. I'm pretty late here, but I got DOJ-blex this weekend.. finally! Most my time spent thus far is with Vanilla label (damn you stage 4), but I've also enjoyed X-mode quite a bit. Once I stop getting my ass kicked in the regular game I play X-mode for a while just for some more laid-back DOJ action. Plus it is the best mode for my friends who play. I'd have 1CC x-mode already if it wasn't for that 3rd form of level 5 boss, pretty ridiculous compared to the rest of the game which was a breeze.
Just got to say I'm not surprised the game is so popular, but I do miss much of the background art and colorful boss sprites from the first game (love how they show up in level 5 though). Great that a patch is finally on its way!

Got DOJ BLEX in just a few days ago.
A few notes on the port..

Played this on a HDTV with HDMI cords, and it looked a bit too pixelated. Looked pretty darn good with component. Looked good, but not as good with VGA(but it had no lag). I don't have any major problems with it's looks(except going through HDMI). I was worried it was going to look like Death Smiles arcade.
X mode is retarded. Your hyper eats all enemy bullets, making you practically invincible. Then, almost as soon as you run out of hyper, another one comes floating on by. And you have autobomb. Ridiculous.
But to each his own.
I can't really tell much of a difference between black label and vanilla label, other than you get more hypers in BL. It's still really hard.
Once the patch comes out, this should be a really good port, for the hardware it's running on. They should add some filters, since it doesn't look so hot on HDMI.

HDMI looks good on my tv. and BL seems harder to me than normal mode. havnt spotted any bugs myself other than the menus and the loading times (which i could live with, theyre not so bad). so the "bugs" must only be for the super hardcore players to notice. i must say , the badness of this port has been somewhat overexaggerated, for people put off buying it (same with the mushi port on ps2, the nit-picking coming from the pcb-owner crowd).
