Well, we're out... One thing I can say is that Uruguay was very effective. Very few oppurtunities but damn if Cavani and Suarez aren't a great pair.
Congrats.

Uruguay aye.

The better team won. Its kinda shaping up now. I'm liking where this is going. Suarez needs to spend more time of the game actually on his feet though.

One of Croatia, Russia and Denmark in the semi, lol. Croatia have been playing well, but still. Winner of England/Colombia will certainly like their chances to reach the final.

jeeeeeeeeeeesus

The match itself was unbelievably bad, both teams choking ridiculously hard out of disbelief for finally making it out of the groups for once but being completely shell-shocked after the first two goals. That penalty foul at the end should have most definitely been a red
But that shoot-out, unbelievably tense.

ZA DOM SPREMNI, may the strongest slav win

If VAR can't make that a red card, what good is it?

A shame that the last two games have been snoozefests - teams playing it super safe. Shoot-outs are kinda fun but sitting through 120+ minutes of zzz is not really Worth it. Here's hoping that this doesn't become the norm for the remainder of the games during elim round. Very happy for Uruguay and France though, those matches were sick.

Yea, Mexico played rather badly and deserved to lose here. We also got to see Neymar at full Neymar Power after having his healing foot getting stepped on. Which would have been a red had it not been the overreacting douche that is Neymar.

But a more pressing question awaits us:
Which is superior, Franco-Belgian comic books or manga?

Horeh shiet... Image

edit: fuck me, Japan caught dead to rights by that cross header. Lucky escape. edit: luck ran out! Pair of beauties from Belgium, especially the improbably dead-angled first.

Been a great match so far - nonstop action, constant threats and no fucking diving. Always appreciated the yanks and the Japanese for that.

edit: and that's that. Bravo to both teams! An electrifying early lead and a relentless fightback to salvation.

And they've blown it right at the end

Think Brazil will fancy their chances in the quarter final.

Japan played beautifully, but Belgium's comeback was even more beautiful.

Absolute stunner of a match. Good shit right out the gate. Beautiful goals all around.
that amazing last-second comeback goal
was rooting for Belgium, but either result wouldn't have gotten me upset since I want Brazil to win again

Yeah, that was a bummer. Would love to have seen Japan get past the Round of 16 for a change.

Damn, what a match.
I am kinda bummed too that Japan didn't qualify for the next round as their performance was great, but their goalie wasn't up to the task and their corner kicks haven't been great all around, so that last-second counterattack was not really surprising.
I initially thought Belgium was goign to win without too much troubles but both teams really deserved to win actually. That close win will probably be a good wake-up call for Belgium, especially since they are up against Brazil next.

Great football match. Absolutely wonderful to see both sides freaking go for it all match. Japan lost with full marks for honor and dignity.

I too wanted Belgium to win, purely from a neutral pov and wanting to see a good match next round. No offense to Japan, but it would have been hard to keep the magic going another match against another power.

I wasn't expecting Mexico to win, yet I am disappointed. After losing to Sweden and Brazil with zero goals in favor, the victory against Germany feels like a fluke. Not even to the quarter-finals... bleh.

Dying to see if England's easy passage strategy is going to work for them. I mean what excuses are left if the easiest passage is too hard for them?

Lets see.

Great match! I was so happy when Japan went up and sad to see such a standard mistake at the very end of the game, you could see what was coming a mile off.

I have money on columbia winning tonight 2-1.
