No, don't censor. You can always give the player the option to turn off all of the cut scenes like in the iOS version. It wouldn't be just the endings, you may have to redraw Rosa's fairy (depending on how you view her). It's not wearing any underwear.

No, don't do that.
Just look for any article/discussion regarding Mugen Souls' Steam release, and you'll know why. If you don't want to look for it, I'll write it here:
People won't buy the game to not support censorship.
By censoring it, you wouldn't gain any more income, as ignorants would be instantly turned off by the lolis on the cover anyway.

By the by, if you don't want to include the Smartphone mode, at least put in Tiara as playable char and Mu the Dream Eater as True True Last Boss (or Tiara-only final boss).

Leave it as is. As a platform, you wouldn't have to look far to find much far worse on PC, much less on Steam. I can only see a very small minority that would actually loudly object to the material being included; if such material is enough to make them say "THAT'S in the game? Nope, not buying this now!", how interested they were in buying the game in the first place is anyone's guess.

As for the act of censoring itself, it's a touchy subject due to what's done in regards to "localization" now. Overall, I think it's really silly when it involves something where the original can easily be found a Google search, when the differences will be spotted by people extremely fast, and when the changes only draw more attention to what was there before (hi, Nintendo).

An occasional "mon dieu" or "Ach!" is fine to me, but those accents... that's the real "yuck" factor.

I really did not want to comment in this thread because of the nature of the derailment, the trolling from both "sides" etc.

Blackbirds, very diplomatically structured, question, should be a wake up call.

The time for reconsidering the "lolification" of this shmup, is long past. CAVE made this decision, for whatever reason (a decision that I did not agree or feel comfortable with) but its done.
The time for changing the theme of the game is long gone. Any thematic alteration at this point would be both revisionist and censorship.
Both of which make me infinitely more uncomfortable than CAVES initial and in my opinion, questionable choice of character theme.

Established forum members have, in this thread, invoked/proposed what amounts to thought-crime, pre-crime and censorship. I would like to believe they were merely trolling. Im not so sure.

The first time I bought Deathsmiles was on the xbox 360. Despite my misgivings re. the lolis, I did not want to miss out on a game by CAVE.
This time the choice is as clear as can be. I will support and buy every game that CAVE releases on STEAM.
But if one frame is censored, no deal.
I can not and will not support censorship as a consumer.

Im glad that Deathsmiles is coming to STEAM. I wish Degica and CAVE all best with the release.

To all forum members, happy new year.

It tends to cause drama so I don't think it's worth the trouble. Carpe Fulgur faced the same scenario when they localized Fortune Summoners. One scene in the entire game depicted lolis in the bath. They were essentially told by Valve that it needed to be altered in order for the game to be released on Steam at the time, so they obliged. The edit itself was very minor and was even done by the original artist, but it nevertheless resulted in a small shitstorm, and seems to have left a stigma attached to the game and Carpe Fulgur. People still complain about it even though the localization was released years ago. :?

Yeah, any piece of work should be respected and left how the creators intended.
Nothing should be censored or changed unless for legal reasons.

I felt uncomfortable for 5 minutes, I'm over it now.

I can't stand loli shit at all.

FYI, people on other forums are going to take this post out of context and assume Degica is actually considering censorship.

By censoring you will upset more people that were interested in the game originally than weren't. People who want localizations want the game as close to the original as possible, not what the localizers thought they were permited to see.

I would love a new aesthetic for deathsmiles. Like a new mode with all the lolis changed into adult women. But I can see a lot of fans being butt hurt if cave did that.

DLC idea maybe?

I don't like the idea of asking Japanese developpers to modify their games for western audiences.

ffs there's a reason why we've been paying expensive imports for decades: when Japanese devs think we can't take their too-nippon stuff: they make dumbed down localized versions.
No thanks, I'd rather have my games original and untouched. Don't give Cave potentially disatrous ideas people.

The only things worth asking for are even better accuracy vs. the arcade boards, and possibly new original modes created by the developpers.

As someone who gets precisely nothing out of this game's aesthetic - absolutely not. That way lies Mobile Light Force.

Is it possible to do a few light edits, like replace all the characters with airplanes and helicopters and replace the halloween theme with something more military?

I would never condone censoring any of DS ever. It is what it is and should remain that way.

Personally as a buyer I'd be happy if that one ending picture scene was just removed. I mean I get that some cartoon sexualization is part of the marketing but for that to be some sort of reward ending scene for one character and one ending choice is just random and weird and serves no purpose.

But, if I was the one releasing the game I wouldn't, since it would just create a scandal out of nothing and people like for their ports to either be exactly the same or with the only changes being additions that are extras that don't mess with the core game, even if it's just a picture. If they're worried about some blogs or news sites doing OMG child porn!!! headlines or something, I don't think the game is popular enough to get noticed.

Err, it's non-sexual though? Group bathing is a normal thing in Japan.

The more explicit imagery was removed for the arcade version and maintained for the Blaze release and X360 update, it wasn't done specifically for westerners.

Not removed...altered/changed/etc. (Can't remove what's already there.)

Yes, i get the fact the arcade version has that changed, but as I said, its been modified towards the English 360 digital release (both NA/EU regions, so yes, to a sense, it was done specifically for the overseas audience), only the JP 360 release has it kept however. Besides, "ACSeraph" can already vouch on the differences anyways also. But either way, still gotta wait on its release for its "Blaze" counterpart on PC/PS4, whenever.
