Cool, Pa. I'm super glad you finally got it, and dig it too! The Fuckemos are somewhat of an acquired taste for most. I went down to my local noise purveyors at Sound on Sound, and didn't see any other Fuckemos or related stuff, unfortunately. I know they have at least one or two other records out, but for the life of me, can't think of the titles. Have you ever seen these guys live? Man, rock n roll ain't pretty sometimes...PaCrappa wrote:And then, my god, the music! "We can't work for heterosexuals, we must work for gays". I totally fogot about that shit! Oh man. This is like the best album ever. Rivals the Spits for actual genuine weirdness. Man, I'm so stoked to have this. I really owe you one for mentioning it. I might have forgotten about these guys if not.
As usual, my playlist is a bit odd this week:
Big Boys - The Fat Elvis (compilation) (EDIT: R.I.P., Biscuit. Damn, what a shame...)
Land of the Loops - Bundle of Joy
Black Sabbath - Paranoid and Master of Reality
V/A - Dope, Guns, and Fucking in the Streets vol.4-7 (Amphetamine Reptile compilation)
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Mosaic
Bonobo - Dial "M" for Monkey
Mike Jackson and the Soul Providers - The Revenge of Mr. Mopoji "OST"
Muslimgauze - Hand of Fatima
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
Plone - For Beginner Piano
Swans - Filth
Naked City - Grand Guignol

got the discharge singles anthology (including the sublime 'why?' in its entirety) on double disk called 'decontrol' for christmas from my better half and i love it. well apart from the last couple of crappy poodle rock singles that loose the punk edge. everyone's going out today so it'll be on the stereo at full volume.
Recently got:
Sopor Aeternus :- La Chambre D'Echo
For those who don't know them, it's a German band. I'm not really sure which category to put them. The driving force, Varney (once a he, now a she), tends to get different musicians together for each release. The style is a mix of gothic, medieval, folk, and is beautiful sounding. Sometimes epic, sometimes sad, sometimes powerful, sometimes upbeat, with a very particular sense of wickedness to the lyrics in place. Managing a song about suicide, done in an upbeat mix of opera, brass, medieval and rock is disarming to say the least. Varney is one of the few people I'd label a musical genius.
This latest album has a touch of the electronic added, it's by far her best release in years, straight into my top 10 of all time. Recommended for the people who like this sort of music, the curious, or the open minded.

Speaking of Godflesh, just now listening to Skinner's Black Laboratories (Broadrick/Andy Hawkins), which is pretty nice. And other Andy Hawkins stuff (Blind Idiot God, Azonic). Favorite stuff recently though:
Lync - These Are Not Fall Colors -- #1
The VSS - 21:51 / Nervous Circuits
Seefeel - Succour
Last Exit - Iron Path
Worst Case Scenario - complete works
Blut aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God -- Godflesh influenced black metal!
etc.

^Good tip on Skinner's Black Laboratories. Thanks for that, Rob. Oh, and that Seefeel record is tops. I used to spin quite a few tracks off of that in my KVRX days.

Finally got around to buying the Get Up Kids album Eudora, one of my faves. Also started sampling songs from The Arcade Fire which I find interesting so far.
Some of the artists currently in my PSP: Get Up Kids (various ), Helio Sequence(various ), The Postal Service(various ), Mazzy Star(various, wow talk about a beautiful voice and nice meld of folk rock/country and dreamy torch songs), STP (Plush), Soundgarden (Burden in My Hand and Day I tried to live), Beck ("Lost Cause," from his acoustic album sea Change), Charlie Mars (Try so hard), Racermason (excellent still-unsigned Ohio group, if you like Portishead check them out, songs: Petals and Rivulett), Pearl Jam (Yellow Ledbetter), Our Lady Peace (various), Weezer (Getchoo)

Carcass - Tools of the Trade EP
Godzuki - Your Future -- pop
Fox the Boombox - Side Parts EP - Squeaky vocals sugar pop. If I had an mp3 blog "Foxy Walker" would be the only song I'd put on it.
