I'm really curious about these things too.

I guess if Kamui started playing Garegga the year it was realeased that would make her roughly 30 years old. Clover-TAC shouldn't be much younger but I have no idea honestly.

Maybe MAGfest would work. I know the Wedoca crew really wants to make that the big shmupmeet of the states. It would be a perfect environment for something like this!
Or the annual California Extreme show (to be held on July 13-14th, 2013 this time around), there's the usual shmup crowd there on both days. All it takes is a bit organization/planning to pull it off. Plently of candy cabs, the proper STG PCBs that folks want see done live...just add some cool Japanese STG gods to the mix -- priceless. The 2012 CAX show had three different DDP PCBs showcased during both days -- something that hadn't been done before in the history of CAX's past shows.

Finally got all my stuff uploaded. Just a selection, since I was going through shakycam most of the weekend. Some of CHI's photos are mixed in here as I borrowed his iPhone on occasions when I had drained my i5 battery to near zero.
Photos: http://viewfinder.thestudio-uk.com/game ... tunfest13/
Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... HQzaj3uM4q

For those wondering where the replays from the weekend are, they're up on Dailymotion (thanks back for the Twitter update, and the guys working to process all the footage!).
http://www.dailymotion.com/user/3hitcombo/1
Not all of the shooting game runs are up - KAMUI's first Garegga run on Friday seems to be absent, and the ones from the SuperPlayLive! stage - notably Ketsui (Rechiku), Dodonpachi and Daioujou (Prometheus), and Mushihimesama Arrange PS2 (DamDam), among others - may be going up on their Youtube account: https://www.youtube.com/feed/UCvNtwz-ieCa20mP6OsjXTIw

I might throw up some assorted extra bits from the weekend, including KAMUI's blooper reel on Saturday, and Clover-TAC's phantom second player comedy.

Yes, I want to make another game. I haven't started yet but I don't think it's going to be a Danmaku, maybe a more traditional shooting game.
Clover-TAC = Yotsubane confirmed! Now we know who to pester if we want a port of Crimzon Clover AC. ^_-
Also, I wonder if this means he's going to shelve Garukilla.
ALFARABI wrote:Kamui, Nak and Clover Tac left Paris this morning :(

It was so intense at the airport, like they really dont wanna live !
They said that the stunfest was really impressive, they like the european video games public :)
They really love France and all the people who help for this dream who became true
A lot of emotions at the airport when I have to drop them to the boarding
Doesn't surprise me, they really seemed to enjoy their time here. Hopefully they'll make another trip sooner rather than later.
Erhune wrote:My only regret for these 3 days is not having had the opportunity to take more time to talk to the 5 players who did us the honor to come from so far. As a Garegga player myself it was pretty weird and exciting to have my Great Masters from both Japan and the West at the same place. Thanks again guys, and hopefully we'll have other opportunities to meet!
I can only imagine what you said when you introduced me to KAMUI, because KAMUI seemed quite surprised and very happy. ^_-
Erhune wrote:Of course it was just impossible to do any justice to Kamui's play on Garegga in just 1h of commentary (I'd need 10 times that at least!), but I did my best to convey the complexity and deepness of this wonderful game and player. I wish we had enough time to also have runs commented in English, especially for the people watching the live streams, and it's definitely something I'd push for if we have another opportunity like this.
I would have been up for that. Just give me a shout next time. ^_-

I think my main worry was that it might have been difficult for the casual spectators at the event to understand just how high the level of play that KAMUI was demonstrating was, given that they would have seen her die with regularity, thinking it was accidental, and as a result would have regarded her as the weakest of the three players. I think I mentioned it to one of the French players there, that the tricks do look impressive to a casual, but you really have to understand Garegga's workings in order to appreciate just how hard some of KAMUI's demonstrated techniques are to execute. Not only that, there's an extremely high level of improvisation and precision required. Hopefully the casual crowd got a sense of that through the commentary.

Yeah, CHI and I took a detour on our way to Gare du Nord Station on Monday afternoon to see if the place was open, as we wanted to check it out (and take over the Darius Burst AC highscores tables in the process) but we weren't aware that it wasn't open during the early week. ;_;

If he really wanted to keep it secret, he shouldn't have put in references to himself. Yotsuba, ne? Crimzon Clover?
Should have called it "Hot Wet Biscuit Factory" to throw people off the scent.

In fact, Clover-TAC usually uses a Sanwa stick, not a Seimitsu.
Hmm interesting! ;) The myth that LS32s are the pinnacle of STG sticks can finally be put to rest..

If anything, it proves is that the world class players are capable with any kind of controller, whether it be their preferred stick or something completely different. That's what surprised us when we saw KAMUI play his third Garegga run, since we knew the stick in the cab the game was getting set up in was not optimal and had some issues. No practice to feel out the stick, just sat down and scored 18.9mil straight off.

That was sort of my point point ;) The skill comes from accurate execution from the player more than the stick brand giving you magical powers. Truly a breathtaking player.

I agree. Whenever this topic comes up, I've always said that you should use whatever controller you find comfortable - it just happens that the majority of shooting game players (NAK and KAMUI included) prefer Seimitsu for the shorter throw, but you also see players prefer pads and keyboards. What is important is exactly what you said: accurate execution. If anything, watching these three up close really drove that point home to me, and I've been looking to reevaluate the way I use my joystick to achieve more accurate movement.
trap15 wrote:On the subject of Kamui... does she prefer to be called she or he?
No idea, never asked. I've had to correct myself a number of times whenever I speak of KAMUI on forums etc, as I know he's a he, but I've called him a she instead. ^_-
It's definitely confusing when he looks more like a girl than most other guys that cross-dress. It is a guy, right? This is getting really confusing. x_X
He is loads of fun to hang out with though. Spent the weekend running around taking photos with his iPad (as well as posting goofy messages with it on the streaming cameras), watching people play, checking out the tournaments (and wiping out the competition on a whim), coming up to chat and hang out with us, and being silly. One of the best characters I've met in a very long time.

There was about five or six different messages, and unfortunately I didn't catch any of them, as I only realised what was going on when as I was talking to CHI, DEL, Plasmo and Prometheus, I looked up, saw the drawing of Mad Ball, and started laughing. I hope someone caught the stream footage of it as I'd love to know what was written.

The girl that was translating for the Japanese players referrend to her as "she". From what I understand he/she doesn't just cross-dress but sort of identifies as female. I might be completely wrong though.
Whatever he/she/it is, she's loads of fun. :D

I guess it 's a kind of secret, cause I have to translate a small interview for a french jouranalist of " Ouest France " 's news papers, who didn't speak very well english
Then when I said to the journalist that Tac is a videogame designer, and he already produced a game ( Crimzon Clover )
Tac told me : Secret, secret
Then I have to make sure that the journalist is not going to include this on her paper ;)

No problem when I said to the journalist that Kamui is a hair cuter and also a programmer, she appreciated that people are interested in her life, no secret for her
I asked her if she could cut my hair, but I already shave my head , just killing ah ah ah :-)

Anyway, we sincere hope that Tac gonna release a new shmup, not danmaku as he specified, but like in the golden age of the shmup, a traditionnal one, for our own pleasure

He probably doesn't want all the attention that resulted from the popularity around the game. From what I could tell from meeting him at Stunfest, he seemed like a reserved, private guy. While he did come down to the shooting game section on occasion to play games and chat with us, and I saw him a few times wandering around the event with the others, I didn't see him nearly as often as I saw NAK and KAMUI.

Wow, amaze.

Crimzon Clover was good before, now made better on pedigree alone. Makes sense such a master could create such a masterpiece. Feels like the game such a player would want to give to the world. Cue TLB with inane xyz reasons as to why it's crap, I'm off to give it a whirl in honour of the creator. :)

Yeah for sure, he 's probably shyest than Kamui for example who is more eccentric
When Tac walked around the cabs running shotting games, he just wait until nobody was there, to start playing, he didn't want to disturb anyone
He paid attention on everybody playing shooting games, cause I thin he really wanted to feel their feelings I guess
That 's the way he lives his passion I guess, wanting so much that shooting games will be well considered all over the world...

He definitely seemed interested in the players that shared a passion for the games he used to play, though - Great Mahou, Progear etc - and seemed more open to conversing with those players. Probably because it was easier to break the ice and get talking around those particular games.

Watched the recorded feeds on dailymotion, it was really entertaining. The french commentary added a lot of zest to the video, although i dont understand a word of it, hah.
Can someone translate what kamui said at the end of her stage show? She had to continue a few times at the end, so i suppose she didnt do that well.

The rank is through the roof by the end of her runs, so the forms of the Last Boss basically refuse to die. She did very well anyway and remember she holds the WR. Her level of skill on this game is insane. I don't know of anyone who has spent 18 years perfecting one game, so she's pretty much one-of-a-kind.
She did do an ALL later on :)

Definitely "she". That was a request of her to be referred as such, since she's been living completely as a woman for more than 3 years. And my wife who has been helping for the whole duration of the player's stay in France tells me that Kamui's probably even more girlish than herself :p
1up wrote:Anyone know their age? NAK was 21? What about Kamui and Clover-TAC?
Kamui is 31 if I remember correctly (she started Garegga at 14), and I've no idea for Clover-TAC. I'd say about 30~35-ish too?
Icarus wrote:I can only imagine what you said when you introduced me to KAMUI, because KAMUI seemed quite surprised and very happy. ^_-
I explained her you did a lot to promote Garegga in the West with your guide, which is definitely something that rings a bell with her since she's also kind of doing the same in Japan. I wish I had re-read the Guide before to highlight the role of Plasmo in perfecting it, too...

I hope too. I highlighted many times that suiciding is a very core part of Garegga's gameplay, so at least I have good hope the spectators understood at least this part :) But I'm glad we could see such deep play, and that we did some in-depth commentary during the runs. Of course, I know most non-shmuppers haven't paid attention to 10% of it during the runs, but now these runs will have a second life on the net when the recordings, so I prefer them to be the most informative possible for people who might come to take an interest into the game through them.
