Submitted my asstastic score.
Interestingly, I found that trying to "milk" stage 1 (i.e. more missiles from that midboss, for example) usually ended up getting me a significantly lower score. I dunno, maybe I needed to use Search or Missile for scoring. I still enjoy the wide-area coverage of the regular laser fan, but it doesn't seem to be good enough for the point item spawners.
STGT'12 Week 1 & 2 discussion (Strikers '99 & V-V)
Re: STGT'12 Week 1 & 2 discussion (Strikers '99 & V-V)
I really thought V-V was pretty cool. But I just didn't play much of it this week. I will play it in the future though! Loop 2 felt almost like Futari 1.5 Original. Which is awesome

Until you die, then the checkpoint reminds you that it's not.
I didn't play as much as I'd like either. I'll have to loop this sometime.

Re: STGT'12 Week 1 & 2 discussion (Strikers '99 & V-V)
personally I thought V-V would be more memorization-demanding than it really was for me; since my memory is (for those who don't know) below average (or I thinik so), I thought that, since this game is long, I would have to memorize a lot of things right in the initial stages (which is a reason why I don't start using savestate practice fast enough -- if I keep dying from early stages and not realize why, I can't put the acquired knowledge from savestates into practice, and there would be a lot of factors that can change the game later and make my savestate practice invalid).
But the procedure I tried, worked surprisingly well (for my low standards): watch superplay video, play one credit, quit at first death, think about why I died, rewatch superplay to see what it did instead, repeat. It may have worked because there was less things (up to where I got) to memorize, the rest of the stages/bossfights felt natural enough. So, in surpassing my own expectations, I also disappointed myself since I could have tried playing the game for more time than I did. (I shouldn't use facebook as often
)
I'm sad that doujin week may be the 4th week, because that's the week where I'm supposed to be practicing for another game instead (for an offline tournament).
Finally, this may have been my worst individual placement in STGTs since 2009. I wish I could be a normal person and start using savestates earlier. (if I'm not losing anything in exchange, I mean.)

Re: STGT'12 Week 1 & 2 discussion (Strikers '99 & V-V)
My thoughts:
Strikers 1999 was really good. It seems that this game often gets overlooked in favour of Strikers 1945 II and Dragon Blaze, but apart from the generic visuals and the typically shitty Psikyo music, there's a lot to like. Getting the technical bonuses is a lot of fun. My only complaints are that, differing from other Psikyo games, there's not a single plane I really feel comfortably with. I ended up using the X-36 like everyone else, but the bomb annoyed me quite a bit. Another thing that bugs me is that the initial random stages vary a lot in difficulty. If I get train/desert/water/sky, everythings fine, but if the sequence is reversed, the game becomes twice as hard.
I also liked V-V a lot. I wonder why it isn't played more widely. I found it much more enjoyable than other Toaplan stuff (both Trustons/Tatsujins for example), and I really enjoyed how every weapon was useful in some part of the game. Unfortunately, I couldn't get my savestate practice to pay off in an actual scoring run. I always managed to get hit by a stray bullet somewhere in one of the easier scenes of the game. Given some more practice, a first loop clear seems possible for me. Anyway, for some reason playing V-V for the week kindled the desire to play a dumbed down port. I think I'm going to go find the Mega Drive version.
On a sidenote: I find it amusing that Team Loser ranks solidly among the top ten. For a team with that name, they are doing remarkably well. I suspect that a few winners have secretly infiltrated that team, and I suggest a name change to "Team Decent".
