I wonder how frantically CAVE were working on this release.

But everyone's right; if you can get it to work, it's a... gem. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Note: I think the framerate is 60 with the iPad2 and the newer iPhones. There's a youtube video where the game is running very smoothly at that rate.

If it's crashing, try closing all background apps before running it. Of course you shouldn't have to do this but hey..

I get the feeling they went with whatever date came soonest after the initial App Store approval. They're probably not concerned about courting people who haven't already been buying their games and just put this out to make a quick buck out of their existing customer base, considering the extremely short development cycle and lack of new content in this release compared to their previous iOS ports.

runs fine on my 3GS.

1cc'd original a couple hours ago in the washroom at work.

I like it so far. Well worth $5!

Now if only I could 1cc the PCB....

Although I just borrowed it again and plan to make a serious effort to get it done!

iPad 1st gen jailbroken running iOS 4.3.3

Played it for an hour or so, crashed 3 times. No apps running in the background, turned WiFi off and still had a crash. On history menu, end of stage 1, and again right after stage 4 boss. Crashes are completely random.

The game is definitely running at a slower frame rate on iPad 1, this was the first thing i noticed. Yeah it's playable but it's not as smooth as the other Cave iOS games on iPad.

1cc'd it on Original and Maniac but doubt I'll play anymore until they update it. I don't feel like playing a game where you're constantly wondering when it's going to crash next!

No crashes on either iphone 4 or ipad 2, both running ios 5.0.1. Also tried using a stylus on the ipad and it was very nice to use.

I've never played the original, so was a bit dissapointed there wasn't a scoring hook in original mode. Still great fun though, and I love the setting and enemy design. Its not quite as good as espgaluda 2 for me, but pretty close.

Would love to see either futari or muchi on ios, I think both would translate well to the touchscreen, and the scoring mechanism would still be effective with autofire.

What are you trying to say? CAVE ports on iOS have their fanbase and I´m sure these type of people will be aware that this game came out and not be distracted by a 10 year old open-world game that needs half a screen of virtual buttons to be played properly. I don´t see anything foolish about that.

Right! :x

I was on the fourth stage boss on Original Hell mode and the game just quit!

Not playing this again until it gets an update patch.

I just 1CC Manaic and it crashed when I tried to skip the ending story. Sigh.

I also agree with the poster on the bullets getting to be kinda small. There are definitely some tiny bullets on DDPR but they move slower in that game so they are a little easier to deal with.

Make sure Game Center pops up that it has loaded, see if it crashes while playing normally. If it doesn't load see if it does crash.

Turning off the Spotlight Search things in the Settings app might help, haven't had crashes since doing this and disabling wifi

although now I'm busy with this utterly amazing port of Sonic CD

First time I had a Cave title crash on me. Stage 5, no miss and it just shuts down mid-stage.

Can't play this until it gets an update.

Dunno how shit like this just gets released without further testing.

Back to Sonic CD.

Same shit happened to me. And I agree, I got a lot of time (and forgiveness) for Cave, but there's no way they could have sat down and tested the final product thoroughly at all. It would have only taken a few runs through to realise it's buggy.

Funny to see how many other people are busy with Sonic CD as well  I never played it back in the day, and it works really well even with the virtual buttons.

And yeah, not really attempting any serious run when Mushi still runs so unstable... hopefully they can do something about these loading times as well!

I think they either didn't take this game "online", i.e. having the "awesome features" enabled or they always did have them enabled. I think OpenFeint just feels like a bug fest, something that this game should do instead.

Ah well, it's not like Cave-World will ignore these bugs. I'm sure we'll get fixes, and hopefully they'll disable that really intrusive OF banner.

I have a feeling that the game was probably optimized mainly for iPad 2 and iPhone S with the rest of the iOS devices as an afterthought.

That would make them worryingly unprofessional.

on iPhone4 works perfectly and very smooth!

Intresting thing with difficulty setting. As the last tutorial page says, "original" patterns available only with HELL setting in the main menu. So ORIGINAL setting on default give us very simple game even on Ultra mode! =)

That's right, iOS Hell = Arcade/PS2 Normal difficulty.
The difficulty settings also effect the end stage (no miss) bonus, and the lives remaining bonus upon the All-Clear.

I've progressed through every difficulty so far and am currently just starting Ultra Normal. It's pretty damn hard, even with auto bombs.

It ran 60fps on my iphone 3Gs as well, but when I paused the game and completed it later, the framerate had dropped to 16fps.
I noticed the phone being quite hot at the time as well. I let it cool down and later it was 60fps again.

no crashes, but I havent updated my OS in long time (since I cant update itunes either, it just crashes during installation, quoting some error)

I can also report that there are no problems here on iPhone 4, iOS 5, aside from one crash in the Game Center menu on first startup. I've got wi-fi on, too.

Enjoying the heck or of this, for a $5 mobile game, it's far from a shitty port. The glitches will get fixed, in the meanwhile, it's running just fine on my iPhone4 and iPad1.

So here's a question: Do you think playing these iOS games helps or hinders your ability at mastering the original game on PCB or Console. For me it's a great way to memorize stages and become familiar with patterns, but on the other hand, using the touch controls allows impossible maneuvers that border on teleportation.

Not only that, I have no clue how the "Unique" scoring systems of Maniac/Ultra translate to touch controls, but I'm guessing not very well at all.

Looks like they've changed it to basically requiring you to shoot as much as possible using shot to keep the counter rising. There's no tap shooting as everything is autofire.

Counterbanking seems impossible to use here. If not because of the timing involved due to shot on/shot off, but because tapping the shot on/shot off also messes with the other finger moving Reco around.

The option to double-tap into the close laser formation is good, but I wish they could have taken that kind of touch integration further.
