Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
A big THANK YOU to all who came to this meet! Nice attendance on this one:
caldwert, Andi, drboom, Dave, drunkninja24, stuminator, szycag, aleanil, Eve, mydyinghyde, Derek
All were wonderful and polite guests. No fights broke out over score challenges and no cabinets were harmed during the gaming event.
World Record of a board staying in a cab the longest at a meet goes to.......The Game Paradise
Caldwert introduced us to the Time Attack and it totally stole the show! I can't remember the amount of points subtracted from your score whenever you lost a life, but I think it was somewhere in the 98,800 range??? times the amount of lost lives! Insane! And remember what really boosted your score? EGGPLANTS! Awesome/bizarre shmup!
Pin*Bot and Bride of Pinbot saw a lot of action. I was really surprised they were so popular!
Thanks to everyone for bringing their awesome equipment and boards. Sorry, stu, I really wanted to get in a few credits on Dangun Feveron. I miss that board!
DDP-DFK!!!
One of Cave's best!
Ketsui port...I liked it! Would probably rave about it if I owned a JP 360.
All in all, I really enjoyed this meet. I hope everyone had a great time and I hope everyone was able to enjoy the games!
Thanks!

Yeah, had a great time, thanks for hosting! I loved just being able to get together with a bunch of people who just love shmups and enjoy the games!
Oh, and I went straight to my Ketsui setup when I got home and did another run, my record now stands at 49 mil.

Nice score! I think my top score with the pcb is 52 mil, or something close to that. I have a long way to go.
Also, I forgot to thank mydyinghyde and his friend for bringing the pizzas! Great stuff and eliminated the need to find a fine dining establishment. Much appreciated, guys!
I'm sorry that some games didn't get enough attention! I knew we were going to have game overload!
Stuminator won the D&D style DDP tournament with 23,156,490. C-type with shot powerup! Got the lucky dice roll there! I have a feeling his score would still be high with any other ship types and power ups. I still have to give him some type of prize.
drboom dropped out of the competition, since he 1CC'd DDP when he went for his warm-up run. Awesome stuff! His award was Toaplan's Fire Shark pcb on loan so he can work on his next 1CC.
Dave from Chicago won the Soldier Blade 2 Minute Caravan Challenge. I don't know if we recorded the score, but it was somewhere in the 560,000 or 530,000 range??? I threw a home-brew Battle Garegga shirt at him that I had left over from quite a while ago. No relation to Compile or PC Engine, but I had to improvise.
Once again, many thanks to all who helped and participated. I now consider you my homies.

Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
Thanks YOU - awesome set up, and such a good host. You even let Dave punch the Pinbot from time to time as he played to alleviate that frustration! What a guy.
Had a ball and as usual, everyone was well-behaved and respectful and much fun seemed to be had by all. I took a bunch of pictures and I will put up a post on my blog with a recap of the weekends events, but right now, I'm exhausted.
A big thanks to gunbird18 for opening his house to Dave, Andi and I, especially since we came down on Friday and stayed until Sunday early afternoon, finishing off a couple more dozen pinball credits.

I'd also like to say thanks to Gunbird18 for having everybody over and letting me crash there. I was wrecked yesterday when I got home and moved in the Astro City, and rotated another monitor. I did manage to locate Mahou Daisukasen when I got home. It was hidden in a box under a flap, I apologize for not having it there. Also, The Game Paradise saved the scores somehow, so I'm not sure what the battery slot on the board is for. Lots of good gaming and arcade discussion, I enjoyed it.
Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
Updated my blog with a recap of the event. Thanks again gunbird18!
BTW - Made it almost to the end of stage 6 in Fire Shark. Thanks for the loaner!

Ha, ha. I knew you would get right to work on that game! Wow, Stage 6? I know Stage 4-10 was giving you some grief. Good to hear that you are not letting this game give you any crap!-

Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
It probably will for a while. This game is balls hard. Wow - I do like a tough Toaplan shooter, but on later levels, it's just bananas. I may just work on the loop in DDP and play this when I need a serious masochistic challenge.
caldwert - have you played much of Game Paradise since you got back? I want to see you hit that 6-8 mil mark...

Played a few credits. Spoke with GP about the autofire PCB. When I can work out a deal for a Pink Sweets, I will pull the trigger on the autofire PCB and we'll see what I can do. I did have a few more 3 million point runs. I wonder how much is left of the stage that we didn't see though.

Yes, we may need to do an impulsive small gathering of Missouri shmup fanatics. Something for those who are 3 hours or less away from me. I know you guys from STL and KC can make it in a day, and Springfield is not too far either.
Let me think on this for a bit. I might be able to come up with a date.
I am anxiously awaiting drbooms shmuparty in the Fall or Winter!!! His gatherings are legendary!!!

I wasn't even thinking about it, then my girlfriend started asking if we were going again. Now I've gotta get her through a shmupping crash course before the next onegunbird18 wrote:I am anxiously awaiting drbooms shmuparty in the Fall or Winter!!! His gatherings are legendary!!!

Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
Yeah, I may have to take some vacation time from work so I can make the trip for drboom's meet, whenever it happens next (hopefully with enough notice so I can make the proper arrangements).
But yes, I agree, another Missouri meet sometime would be awesome!

Just give me fair warning and I most likely would be down for a meet at some point. Not sure about dr boom's but we'll see.
Re: Mid-Missouri Shmupmeet NEW DATE May 1st
I was gonna hit drboom's event but he seems to have disappeared.

I'm still here but holy hell has life got busy. New job (as of last year) is pretty awesome, but does take a lot of my time. But I am kinda taking a break from the boards for a bit. I was thinking of doing a meet in November, but haven't come up with a date yet. Trust me, I'll let you all know when I do!
As for gunbird's impromptu meet - I'm down for it whenever!

I'm glad your still planning on a meet drdoom, it's no small effort to arrange having so many people in your home for a weekend. Looking forward to an announcement.
