Standard boss rush. Each boss destruction time is recorded individually and then added up at the end for the grand total time. Each time you're hit, it adds 10 seconds to your game clock. Each of the bonus items you pick up (after the boss dies) subtract 1 second. So basically, kill stuff fast and don't get hit.

Played through story mode once this evening. Is this a game visual novel or a shmup? Christ almighty that was a ton of dialogue. The game seems VERY short, but the difficulty of normal was pleasantly solid. I thought the game was going to be a cakewalk since it was based on a licensed property. Got shot down too many times and ended up not seeing the TLB.

The graphics are inexcusably awful and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to the scoring. There are a few interesting enemy patterns and overall the game isn't as bad as I was expecting, but it still isn't what I'd call "good" by any means. It's a helluva lot better than 0 Day Attack On Earth, but that isn't saying much. I'm still interested to see where Gulti goes from here.

I feel like an idiot paying 1200MSP for an extra character and score attack already, but.....it seemed like the thing to do at the time.

Huh, that's weird. Play-Asia seems to have dropped the standard edition completely. I don't mean they've just sold out, they've removed the whole listing and only have the LE up.

standard edition at 3980 yen within 1 week Ghegs!

Will post once it hits 1980 (next thursday ;) )

Strangely not many second hand copies... though that might point to there being a glut of first hand unsold copies! :D

That is very odd. I ended up getting it from NTSX because Play-Asia had the standard edition listed as backordered when I went to order it from them last week. They're pretty good about getting games back in stock, but the gamepage is kept up and the status is updated to Backordered. It being removed completely is not a good sign.

3 years later, the game is being sold for 10000 yen used. Every one buy it right now before it is to late

Sorry for joking.
That being said, yes it is really odd that they haven't it in stock again. Somebody knows how many units have been send to retailers?

Burn after playing...
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

At this rate, I'm almost hoping their next move is bankruptcy. At least then they can't keep turning out watered-down ports (post-patch RFA aside) and mediocre (a kind word) original games.

That depends. Can you map all the gameplay buttons to the shoulder bumper/trigger to play one-handed?

Yep. It's a glitch. Don't bother visiting the leaderboards until CyberFront release a patch.

In the instruction booklet for the game on the character stat pages near the back there are 5 ratings, they show Firepower / Speed / Turning Speed / Magic Recovery Rate / Magic Duration, from top to bottom.

Just tapping RT for a split second as opposed to holding it down for near-infinite shielding seems to be the way to go for both survival and scoring (being able to run into enemies and collect medals that would otherwise be unobtainable thanks to bullets). There isn't a scoring penalty for using RT as far as I've seen so go wild. How long you'll be vulnerable/without a shield between RTs depends on what characters you're using and their magic recovery rate, but its roughly only 4 seconds or so on average if Perrine is on your team (shes on mine 100% of the time).

Perrine is definitely the best character in the game for normal enemies, with Eila as a familiar. Using the method above for the shield Shirley seems the best character to go up against bosses with, as the half-second you get of her lazer when you TAP RT seems to do more damage in its short duration than any other character's RT attacks. Haven't messed around with the whole cast in this regard yet, but Shirley definitely seems strong (For upclose direct hits Erica may be good as well, need to test her).

There are a few characters that seem completely useless, namely Minna, Gertrude, Miyafuji and Luchinni.

I have just tried the game and....... well it is just much better than 0 Day, miles ahead.
What I can't stand are the cutscenes that stop all the action (I don't know how to turn them off, I don't understand japanes and haven't even bothered myself to check it out in the option menu) and the boring enemy design. However I find the bosses quite entertaining but their attack patterns are so predictable......
I am glad I did'nt buy it at full price.

When Junko Takei is selected as your leader she powers up your familiars. For example Perrine only shoots one lightening bolt as a familiar (two if you're playing as her actively), but if Junko is your leader she fires off two. This damage boost makes a giant difference against bosses and things with larger HP, such as the turrets and fixtures on the floating ship you scale for a majority of stage6. I 1CC'd with Junko/Perrine/Lynette the game on Normal with over 200million points once I discovered this. Using Junko-only for stage6 made it a breeze (wheras it was much more difficult using Perrine or Charlotte in previous runs on it)

I'm wondering now if theres another character in the cast that has this same ability or gives off any other bonuses to the familiars. Minna would be my guess since her default firepower as leader is lame and she doesn't have any other big advantages.

Very Hard difficulty will probably be the only thing that will keep anyone around here slightly entertained and even then the enemy patterns and shots are pretty easy to avoid without that much practice. The graphics are awful and the music is just ok.

That said there aren't many dualstick scrolling shooters and theres a good variety in the characters and its fun mix and matching teams of 3.

It isn't fantastic or worth full price to most people, but I'm enjoying it myself. Probably a 6/10 in my book, I'd guess a 5 or 4 in most other people's. You can do worse....like Gulti's previous game...the dreadful 0 Day Attack on Earth.

It really depends what a 6 means to people. In my book a 6 is an average score, sometimes worth a look if the subject matter appeals (although I wouldn't expect any long term play before the flaws saw it shelf bound for good.)

The general consensus these days seems to be that anything scoring below an 8 is basically shit, like the remaining seven numbers don't count for anything.

1080 acquired.

I had been having trouble with trying to clear Very Hard using Takei/Perrine/Eila (kept getting killed at the stage 6 mid-boss), so I swapped out Eila for Lynnette (who does absurd amounts of damage) and SCCed the game on the very next attempt (even managed to No Miss stage 6 on that run). Final score was 408 million and some change.

Which character did you use as the primary for a majority of the game or did certain characters work better than others for certain spots/bosses?

I just left Takei as the primary the entire time since she amplifies the strength of the other two in the party.

I love how much people are talking shit about this game and it's developers when they haven't even played it. I just got around to actually delving into the game despite having for a week and a half, and its extremely enjoyable pretty much on all fronts. Even if the graphics aren't some ultra-polished set of 3D models, they're still HD and still do more than serve their purpose in the game. The music is cool, the art is well-done, the combinations of characters and skills is an awesome idea that gives a lot of variety to the way you play. I'd suggest at least playing a game before you talk a bunch of shit about it just because some shmups forums people said it doesn't meet their colossal expectations.

I tried it yesterday and I thought it was pretty fun as well.
I'm not a graphic whore so I don't really care about its supposedly shittiness in Strike Witches.

The only thing I didn't like was that all menus are in Japanese. :(

Come now - who had colossal expectations for this game? I'm glad you personally enjoy it but i went in with zero expectations and -still- came out disappointed. Stand by everything said, really.

I think the point still stands that if you've not got all the other X360 shmups then this -should- be the in the later later of anyones list.

This game is as mediocre and bland as it gets. Lynnette is my favorite Strike Witches girl so I may get the LE just for that. :P

I'm assuming this will hit around the time the Strike Witches movie comes out. Which will be more fan service garbage. Can't wait! I cannot get into most fan service series, but Strike Witches amuses me somehow.

No it's not. It's only being released on PSP not PS3. If you want to play it on a console your going to need a Jap/Asian Xbox 360 :) Have a nice day.
