The screen in to bright now, lol
I'm colour blind and afflicted with number dyslexia so shouldn't have any problems wiring my psu.

Looking sweet. What are the chances of scoring a GX on evilBay today ?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
The GXs are really hard to find. Emotia or Super Emotia - much easier, especially without a PSU. I doubt that you'd have to wait longer than a month to score one.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
I see.
If I understood your article correctly the GX is the only standalone Extron downconverters without the 'misalignment' issue right ?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Yes, but there are multiple GX board revisions as well (recently I saw a GX with the same alignment as the Non-GX models). And depending on your source (MAME or windows in general), it's an easy fix with a simple setting.

Thanks, looks like there are no plug-and-play solutions in this world.
Well 'almost'.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
So as of yesterday I own an Egret 2. Toying with the idea of some sort of downscaler to play Dreamcast/Xbox 360 games on it without a monitor swap and the Emotia was the name I remember hearing for this purpose. Is this still the recommended route to go, and what's the best route to obtain one these days? I skimmed this thread and someone a while back suggested something from user viletim but I wasn't sure if that was a downscaling solution or just a SCART-JAMMA adapter.

All the downscaling solutions are listed here: http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/
If you want 24khz as well you might prefer a UVC over an Emotia unit.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Interesting, a lot to read there. I didn't even know 384p was an option! But as you say, it looks pretty much impossible to obtain a UVC right now, and MIMO's website didn't load when I tried it either.Fudoh wrote:All the downscaling solutions are listed here: http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/

Pending interest; sent you a PM but need to know how much international shipping will run. Also, I don't suppose the power leads provided over JAMMA would be enough to power it?Monstermug wrote:I got my one for sale in the trading section if anybody is interested? turns out that I didn't need mine. Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
MIMO recently changed servers, maybe they have some downtime. The Genius II is pretty expensive and 384p looks better on the UVC. UVCs are rare, but if you create a wanted thread here on the board, it should just be a matter of weeks. An UVC is between 100 and 130 EUR, while a Genius II is 250+ EUR.
Monstermug's offer seems like a solid alternative. You can easily resell the Emotia when you find an UVC (if you want 384p).

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Thanks, I think I will do just that. Any ideas on powering the Emotia (and the UVC) directly from JAMMA? If I go this route, my cabinet's power supply will essentially be left powering only the monitor and I'd think it should be able to handle powering an upscaler if the voltage is compatible...?Fudoh wrote:MIMO recently changed servers, maybe they have some downtime. Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
no idea, but an Emotia certainly does not require more power than your average PCB. BUT you require a -12V line and don't think that's standard on any arcade PSU.

-12v is not part of the JAMMA spec that's for sure.Fudoh wrote:no idea, but an Emotia certainly does not require more power than your average PCB. BUT you require a -12V line and don't think that's standard on any arcade PSU.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
OK so I gotta'nother question for you guys....
Can I hook a PS2 up to the Extron. I mean if I use Component out, is there a Component to VGA converter so I can slap it in Extron?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
There are transcoders available, but the PS2 always boots up in 480i and only selected titles support 480p. You'd have to switch them into 480p mode blindly. So to universally connect connect a PS2 to an Emotia, you'd need a lindoubler in between, something like an iScan Pro.
PS2 > iScan Pro > Emotia > Jamma.
PS2 > iScan Pro > Emotia > Jamma.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
that's just an example, when you down convert to 240p afterwards anyway, deinterlacing quality isn't this important, so any HDBox Pro clone with component in and VGA ouput would work for you.
For example: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro%C2%AE-AV ... ponent+vga

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Yes, all of them about 2 frames. The HD+ (to answer your other question) works as well, but it's very large 19" machine. so nothing you can easily store away in your cab.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Fudoh,
I get asked this very question quite often and never have a definite answer (cause I don't know 100%).... if you use a HDBOX type device, do you still get 2 frames of lag, even if you're only effectively transcoding (same input and output resolution)?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
No. I think I tested this once. For progressive signals the deinterlacing is just being shut off. It probably doesn't matter if you us 480p or 1080p output. Unfortunately you're not 100% transcoding when going from 480p YUV to 480p VGA. I remember trying a scanling overlay and I think the upper part of the screen was a match but the lower end was 1 line off, which suggests, that the signal is still running through the scaling engine.

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
Sorry.... is that "no" there is not 2 frames of lag in this situation?

Re: Extron Emotia GX Operating Instructions
no, I THINK you don't get the same 2 frames of lag, but it's considerably faster when feeding progressive 31khz signals
