I recieved an official update from guru - and it's pretty much exactly what I expected.

"no update yet. your PCB is in the long TO-DO list. I'll get to it eventually."
"However probably you won't see it in MAME for many years because Cave know about MAME and will request any new games to be removed if it's added. "
"I hope you didn't think MAME would be running this game by Christmas, it's just not going to happen for many years. To think like that is unrealistic for this particular game given Cave's known protection of their intellectual property and the difficult-to-emulate hardware that these newer games run on.
In any case, I just dump ROMs, I have no control over what is added to MAME, who works on any particular game or when a game is added or rejected.
I can assure you it will be in MAME eventually, but when..... I have no answer for that question."

Man you know they do have Ketsui DS comin up so it's completely logical for them to want to keep it from being emulated I mean come on. Letting it get added to MAME within the year is basically asking to get potentially fucked on Ketsui DS.

Honestly, people. Guru does this on his free time, asking no money in return for his work.
There are other boards, donors, etc in the line, too. I can certainly understand that people who donated $$$ to buy Ketsui and send it for dumping might feel that they are entitled to have it dumped quickly ... but please remember, all those other people might feel exactly the same way.
And if it so happens that Ketsui is a bit more complicated game to dump properly, I can certainly see why Guru would be inclined to do at least some of the "easier" dumps first. (Of course, I cannot talk with Guru's voice - he does these things as he sees fit.) Seeing that he has done this for so long, I feel quite sure the dump is going to eventually happen.
Also, polling him now and then about the status of Ketsui dump however politely, is always time off from his free time which he already uses to dump arcade boards. The most productive course of action for people who donated the board is IMHO to simply wait. Of course, it is simple for me to say since I am not one of the people who bought it in the first place...
Anyways, since actually playing the game in MAME is probably going to require simulating the MCU and it seems quite likely that this would be something Arika is going to stop now and in immediate future (like 5-10 years from now on) if it comes up, most of us who did not donate money it is not going to matter in any way, shape or form if the dump happens tomorrow of December 31. I can certainly see that if the dump can be done in non-destructive way, this question is interesting for the people who donated money since theirs is the decision what happens to the board after dump. However, I suspect that rushing Guru is not going to help anything.

I'm not surprised this is taking time - I merely contacted him as the organiser of this project, because other people were asking, and now I answered their questions, I won't hassle him again.
when people donate so much money for something, I feel they are entitled for some feedback, and in turn I also feel obliged as the person that collected their money to do provide it.
I felt bad hassling him, and was dreading the response to be honest as I feel all this complaining and dissing Guru will only delay the dumping.
But, as I said, I felt obliged, and that's what I did - I lived up to my own self imposed obligations, mainly because I felt that if I didn't i'd start getting flack aimed at me.
I instigated the project, I collected the money, got a PCB and sent the it to guru, and now we wait, and thats it.
hopefully that will be the end of it for now.

There have been several arcade games in the past that were surrounded by an even bigger "give me, give me - will it be emulated next week?" kinda fanboy frenzy. King of Fighters 2K, Killer Instinct, Marvel vs Capcom, Metal Slug 3 and recently the CPS3 games - none of those games was added to Mame first and none of those emulator authors gave a flying fuck about the opinion of the company owning the rights. History tends to repeat itself.
Indeed. As I said before, just because the MAME team probably won't work on it once it's dumped, doesn't mean that another team (possibly with less public exposure than the MAME team) won't. MAME isn't the be-all and end-all of the emulation world, and quite often in the past they are playing catch-up with the smaller developments going on around them. If there are a series of games using the same hardware, then I think that would increase the likelihood of someone picking up the emulation side of things.

Well, I'll be happy with just that. Hearing from MAME people that the newer Cave will be on MAME for sure "in many years" is kind of reassuring, I was starting to think the protections and difficulty to emulate would make prevent it from happening at all.pixelcorps wrote:I can assure you it will be in MAME eventually, but when..... Maybe we should pay this guy, it would happen faster.BiQ wrote:Honestly, people. Guru does this on his free time, asking no money in return for his work.
Or he could tell us how to do it, and return the PCB so we ask it to someone else. Surely, Guru is not only one ROM dumper around the globe.
Also some people don't care about emulation, some only want it dumped and feel safer about their own PCB (okay I'm talking about me
![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
Does anyone have tech info about dumping a Ketsui PCB ? I could try on mine maybe...

Emulated. Yesterday I was searching hardcore for any info, and I stumbled upon some weird forum where Guru was posting himself (I guess it's from his site.) And I read it was 50% Emulated, and there was some images, some things in the background weren't there though, you know hoe emulation goes. Look at Batsugun for example.EOJ wrote:50% emulated or dumped?HeLGeN-X wrote:but he said it's pretty much 50% emulated so far, that's all I know.
