Though it will not do my team any good, I feel obliged to post my extremely poor score:

Super Laydock - Team Stranger - 217,700 - 1-3 - Rob (Mame)

I've been too busy with other things this week to put in more than an occasional 20 minutes play. But so be it.

Disclaimer: I'll admit that I could have played more, but not liking the game just didn't make me feel like it. I apologise to my team mates!!! :(

For the "Hidden gem" week, I'll be back from holiday annd be sure to again put in some quality time with whatever game is selected for that week! :)

Here's my first tournament score:

AVE - Team Germany - 229,900 - 1-4 - Quaid (MAME)

I've been pretty busy the last few weeks (and too lousy in Batrider) as it would've helped to post my scores, when existed.

I will try to be become as good as possible in the next 2 days to save a good last place at least in DB :P

Let me guess... you blanked out the original sound, and put a string of Yoko Ono songs in its place.

Pretty much. For some reason I can't capture the original game sounds anyways.

I'd love to know how you're pulling off 750k by the end of stage4, Rob. I'm averaging between 680k - 700k at best. -_-;;
I guessing that grabbing lots of powerups at maximum power level is part of it? As I seem to get powered down accidentally about four or five times a stage.

I have the same problem, so that's not it. Probably just a little small stuff, but most importantly in this game I got bailed out by the stage order. I say no more!

Is there any way to determine your stage order?

Meh, that sucks. I do better with stages in a particular order, and randomised stages are really effing up my plans. Oddly enough, I only ever need up to two bombs on Flower4 or Desert4 (one for the coin chest, the other for boss TB), but Sea4 and Sky4 I end up depleting my bomb stock from about 4 or 5 stocked. >_<

Gah.

I used a record setting 7 bombs on stage 4.

Sure, if you buy the PS2 port. They let you set up your desired order in the options menu. Or just keep resetting the rom, the stage order is always the same on the first coin.

I probably won't even try to top this. It's hard enough just to get to the level 4 boss and one time I was there and ready to bomb and go for the tech bonus... and I pressed the dragonshoot button instead of the bomb button and got pwned  But when I finally made it to 1-5 I was miraculously infused with some bullet dodging skill and managed to last long enough for another 100k. ^_^

Hah, I thought so. ^_-

Are you going to try a real 2-ALL at some point? I've been in the loop (for all of one minute) and it seems manageable if you shoot only when needed, bullet-lure, and attack all the major targets before they can fire.

(I don't think I'll ever make it past 2-1 to be honest. Not unless a miracle happens and I no-miss past the sixth boss, or have an Extend and a couple of bombs spare coming into the loop.)

It's harder than I thought it might be. It doesn't seem like a fun undertaking. I'm going to save the self-abuse for Gunbird 2's loop.

Potential final update. I've got a lot of things to work on tomorrow (well, today since it's 2AM here), and I highly doubt I'll have time to play this again before the deadline. So...

I had a very busy week and was only able to play for more than 10 minutes on monday and saturday. I will spend some more time with the game today, but I have no hopes of improving my crappy score. Sorry, team. I apologize.

I'm sorry team mates - I feel like my results are in decline. I wasn't able to beat my score of day 4 - and actually now I find myself losing lives in stages 3 and 4... Too much coffee, or whatever. I lost my focus. :?

I'll try a desperate attempt this evening.

p.s. there was a time though when I managed to reach 4 with no-miss and 5 bombs - I didn't resolve to use them and lost everything. That was depressing.

Thats it for me. I got to 1-5 on my last life and got spanked at the giant turtle boss. With no bombs left it was kinda hard :D
