Well done Spadgy! And I'll definitely be there tomorrow, best of luck with the über-manly public PCB 1CC.

Gah, sorry, can't make it. Sorry guys. Though it was a pretty good turnout last week, so you shouldn't even notice my absence :D

Oh no! I hope you got it :( Feel guilty about ditching Casino for the pub, but am in a pub in a monument outside Euston station. Exciting stuff. I'll get back to training for the 1CC race super soon!

People down for this Tuesday?

I reserve the right to be late this particular week, as work's mental, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make it.

I'll be there tomorrow, and I'll bring your Futari DVD as well Spadgy. Thanks very much for the loan by the way,
it was great fun to watch and revealed a lot of strategies I hadn't seen before.
I'm sure I'll be able to make more progress now :D

Skykid, do you have the Official Guide Book that came with the DVD as well?
I've heard it's more of an art book than a guide book, and if so I will hunt down a copy:
I think Futari is one of Cave's best looking games and I'd love to see all the concept sketches etc.

I had one, just sold it couple weeks ago on the trading station for £25.

It is basically an artbook with a little strat. It's pretty much identical to the larger version Cave printed at a recent matsuri.

I think Futari has some of Cave's best ever artwork, but best looking games? All that pixelly pre-rendered shiny CG?

Nah. :)

The first boss, which I call CG-Rex, is indeed horribly pre-rendered: I wouldn't be surprised if it leapt out and attacked me in Vectorman.
I do think the rest of the game is quite tasteful though. But yeah, proper hand-drawn pixel art generally trumps pre-rendered stuff.

Glad it helped JDE (though Skykid is the real reason we can all enjoy it). Now I've got the 1CC with both Palm and Reco I need to concentrate on some strategies for more score.

Thanks for the pics of our dingy little spot!

Such a shame we weren't there to greet the visitor.

And who is that older chap playing Raiden? I always see him in there.

The old guy (if its the guy I'm thinking of) is some old codger who's been going to the London arcades for decades. He never says anything to anybody, comes in, plays a game and sods off.
There's a tall black guy who used to get to Infinity Stage (ST26) on Star Force in the early 80s. He also still pops in from time to time and also never says anything to anybody.

It was just Dan76, HZT and me last night, but we all had a great time on Futari and DOJ - both HZT and I got farther than ever before.
And Spadgy, that article you were working on sounds interesting, if you could bring a copy of the issue it's in sometime I'd like to read it.

Maybe it's because I've been blasting away at DFK BL all week but Futari wasn't kicking my butt as normal - actually made it to the last boss - and completely fell apart. There were a few stage 1 Yagawa suicides though, i think the very first bullet of the game killed me  Also got to see some fella play Red Earth.

Anyhow, I can't make next week as I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled... see you all the week after.

I died to one of the first enemies then went on to get 97 million... if I hadn't been a retard there (I think I failed to press the C button properly) I would've got the second extend and made it to stage 5.

Anyway, today I played 9 credits and didn't get as far as on either of my 2 yesterday, so obviously last night I managed to hit just the right level of slightly drunk to improve my skills.

Of course mate - I'll always give you a copy of the mag. I'm not one to have confidence in my own work really, but it felt like it went pretty well. I got to speak to guys from MIT and some other pretty decent places, which helped. I can recommend keeping an eye on kinecthacks.net.

Anyway - I'll see you all down there soon. Next week for sure.

No worries Spadgy, it can't be helped if things are busy at work. I'll definitely be there tonight, but it sounds like things might be very quiet with you, CHI and Dan76 away - can anyone else make it?

HZT was one with the spirit of shmups tonight, pulling of some absolutely insane dodges straight through solid walls of magenta death in Futari, and getting all the way up to Larsa before finally dying. I didn't pull of anything so impressive, but I can consistently get up to the Stage 4 boss now, which is a huge improvement over just a few weeks ago so I'm still very pleased with my progress.
