Re: I'm drunk thread!
I came reaaaalllyyy close to drinking a Hops in the Dark (I hate that fucking obnoxious title) I've had in the fridge for two months. Drinking is too boring ATM, I'd rather drink coffee and stay up reading or draw. I think if I start drinking again I'll drown myself or get hit by a train.

I'm going to San Francisco the 2nd week of July and I'm going to meet up with a physics major I've been chatting with.
I'm shallow enough to judge people based on their music taste/knowledge/art and she fits the criteria.
Too bad all the interesting people live about 3-6 hours away.

Re: I'm drunk thread!
I'm really surprised that I haven't posted in here for some time now. I think its 'cause I do so much browsing from my phone now. I am currwntly fairly drunk, and am making a huge batch of green oil. I got all the trim for free, but didn't expect it to be be sooo much, I am currently taking care of it emiediatly to get it out of my house.
Anyway.. I have ben working full time at a high end beer bar since the begening of the year. The job is dope, mo' money, better hours, it's always busy, and everybody fucking Drinks. But, the enviornment is Super healthy, even though everybody Drinks (it's okay to drink while working, or sit at the bar and drink a little before shift). It's the first job that I have ever had that I would say that my over all quality of life has drastically improved. I'm drinking way more, but with a better tollerance, and some sense, I'm drunk less.
I would like to yap on about my job, and how thermite it is. If you wanna know, google Tap & Mallet, and Rochester Beer Week. I got into Beer Fest for free, it's also on the end of the the street i live on. It was cool, I drank alot of different beers and made stangers uncomfortable by asking them what they did with their freetime, Aparently people only work and are terrified of having hobbies.
edit: oh, and some hallucinogens fairly recently. But, I am very lucky and have very little responsibilties for other people and can do that.

It's been a long time coming since moving to the LA region, but I have a place I feel I can really, absolutely endorse, and that's Ladyface Alehouse. Here's why...

Problem is, this place is 20 miles away, but its not too far from my brewshop. You get the logic here--if I'm going to the brewshop, why not keep going to Ladyface and get a growler? And while I'm there, why not get a taster (or three)?
Same distance, but a different direction are the good ol' boys of Enegren Brewing Company who so far have been turning out solid beers, but nothing great yet. Looking forward to their Sticke Alt. They have a 3 liter growler that's well worth owning. Good memories of their 'non Sticke' Alt. Fresh beer in a giant glass jug is proof that god loves us.

Found La Fin Du Monde & Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA at a random convenience store. One of the 4 packs of 90 minute IPA was dated 8/2010. Couldn't imagine it being popular here anyways. $10 is pretty steep for a 4 pack.

Hah! You're gonna become the next Drauch. Yeah, the Palo whatever is a fucking awesome brown...but not really a brown. What is it, 10%? Completely on steroids.
Good news I went to the brew club meeting today and I think I figured out why my last two beers didn't come out that well. Crossing my fingers there suggestions solve the problem.

Went to Stone Sour fest today and discovered a couple new breweries to be in love with. A lot of attractive women to watch too! Good times!

Re: I'm drunk thread!
2 days ago had Dogfish head's Raison D'Erte which is a beer from my past (early 00's)--back when I lived in New England. To the best of my knowledge, this beer isn't distributed to the West Coast, so why did it show up in my local shop? Still tastes great to me! Unlike Stone which feels behind the times, this beer still seems to stand up.
Speaking of stone; last night I had their 10th anniversary Ruination which I like, but maybe not so much as the traditional Ruination (another beer from my past). This has the big, bitter sweet flavor of many double (triple?) IPAs, but the beer is probably too big for its own good and ends up feeling messy. I actually had difficulty finishing the bottle and might not buy it again--which may sound incredibly negative but in truth I liked it. Its a great 'big bottle experiment', but one that needs some work.
Today (while brewing a bier de garde), I'm drinking Sierra Nevada's Hoptimum which is, yes, another extreme IPA. I've had this on tap at their brewery and Chico, and it seems to have traveled well (ooh, half a state). In the world of extreme IPAs, I'll take Pliny, but unlike the 10th anniversary Ruination, Hoptimum feels very well balanced and I'd be thrilled to see this beer become a staple of their roster as it makes Torpedo look like a timid, novice beer (and I quite like Torpedo!)
Still got plenty of odd beers to try (most of which are not IPAs) over the next couple days. I'll report in...not that you care, I just like writing about beer that I drink.

Re: I'm drunk thread!
I just woke up from a nap after drinking a few bottles of Troegs Perpetual IPA. Nice and dry, clean-tasting imperial IPA of the west coast style. I also recently had a couple bottles of Dogfish Head's Positive Contact which was excellent. The profile was similar to a saison, with some tartness from the apples and hint of herbalness that hides the 9% well.
That's because a lot of Dogfish's beers aren't straightforward beers and the shelves are lined with excellent examples of the the stuff that Stone does well. Their whole schtick was aggressive beers and the market has been flooded with that shit. I still love Arrogant Bastard and the IPA though, and will go for them when there isn't anything more interesting to go for.CMoon wrote:2 days ago had Dogfish head's Raison D'Erte which is a beer from my past (early 00's)--back when I lived in New England. Re: I'm drunk thread!
Oh hell yeah! Just finished brewing the Bier De Garde. Filled the fermenter way too high and the shit will be shooting out the blow off tube in a couple hours. Felt like a full haul today despite the fact that my system is become more and more automated (I installed a pump and am now using universal fittings.) The system practically cleans itself. Maybe its the heat?
Kept telling myself I was forgetting something and only after everything was done did I remember I didn't sanitize one component of the fermenter. Hopefully yeast >> bacteria, but we'll see.
Celebrating with Dogfish Heads Urkontinent!

Volkan Beer, black & blonde.
One of the ingredients Citrus Medica is ancient, as it was brought to Greece from Persia by the armies of Alexander the Great!
I'm generally not a fan of beer or a drinker, but I got 2 bottles from the supermarket today and it was excellent! Especially the black version! Much better than those German beers!
Volkan, I wonder if Mr. Spock has tried this?

Re: I'm drunk thread!
Not enough love in this thread lately.
I'm not yet drunk, but I'm drying. Went by Ladyface today, got a couple samplers, a growler filled with their Tripel (mmmmm) and a growler filled with their belgian yeast which I'm using today to brew 10 gallons of a tripel.
I think I'm done buying yeast properly (at least for a while.) Means making a starter and potentially locks you out of giant beers. With two breweries close to me (one does primarily california ale yeast, the other does belgian ardennes yeast), everytime I brew I can just head over to one of these breweries prior, pick up some of their beer and a slug of yeast. For anyone who isn't a brewer this is probably all nonsense, but I know there's a few of you hear, and I have to say there's something awesome knowing you can just pick up a couple liters of yeast ready to chow through your wort. Also makes one feel more like part of the community.
