People with nonexistent personal hygiene on the bus. I'm going to buy a rag and soak it in fucking bleach for my face on trips like today. -_- Old lady sitting in front of me smelled like a dog's wet ass.

An anorexic friend who can't get her shit together. Actually, guess this is kind of a big thing that's annoying me, but still, pain to deal with today.

The fact that the JAMMA standard only provides mono audio.

Looking for TV service manuals online. There are many sites with the one I want, but I can't be sure they are the latest ones. For example, I found one dated 2003, and another dated 2004, with one new item (and who knows if anything got updated). At the same time, the set is from 2006. Of course, many sites require some kind of registration or even payment to download the manual, so I currently have to view the updated one on scribd but they won't let me download it...jackasses. For my purposes, the 2003 manual should be more than good enough, but I will be very careful.

Especially painful for anybody whose setup accepts JAMMA configurations, but you want to plug in a system with native stereo audio, like an MVS.

Here here. I've written for people in the page who turned my 1000 word reviews into 5 or 6 pages. now Pagination like Ars does, that is acceptable.

Aesthetics be damned, the real motivation for this is cold hard cash (usually). Another page loading means several more ad impressions, which means more money for the webmaster... Not to mention the arguable SEO benefit of having more pages indexed in Google.

Anyway, I agree. That shit is annoying as all hell from a usability standpoint. Sometimes you can get around it if the site offers a "printer friendly" version.

People calling reproduction carts "repo" carts. No. No, no, no. The cartridge was not repossessed. It was reproduced. "Repro," people. Say it.

Voicemail peeves of mine:

People who don't set up their voicemail, so that you cannot leave them a message. (Some companies activate your voicemail with a default recordings. Others won't let anyone leave a message until the user sets up the inbox.) Why did they request/get the package with VM if they don't bother to use it because they are too busy to answer?

And two, people who call me and don't leave a voicemail. Why call, if they can't be bothered to record a message when I can't answer?
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I just forget my voicemail password and leave it full so people can't call me. They never need to, anyway.

I forgot about this in The GIMP. Yeah, it's a right arse to move text.

Gotta agree, I never knew carts could be possessed in the first place.

Another to add to this list... repair manuals written by engineers with no hands-on experience, expecting everyone to understand their engineering drawings (forgot the term for that, CAD drawings?) at first sight, and claiming that it's your fault for not understanding when they "accidentally left out a label". Work related, but yeah.

I've been hearing this "phrase" on a lot of TV and radio ads: "I KNOW, RIGHT?!?!"

That shit can die NOW! It can die like...six months ago.

Where did it come from?

I know the latest Green Lantern movie hi-lighted it in their ads.

I concur with that sentiment. I used to know some twat that said that multiple times on a daily basis. To everything. I will never forget that. I will always hate him.

I don't have a lot of trouble believing that. I've seen a schematic sheet with an annotation along the lines of "bigass shift register because we ran out of GPIO pins, LOL". And then, presumably, the PCB layout guru has to deal with the EMI fallout.

It burns me to have a clueless wingman. I told the dumdass not once, not twice, but several times to put in a good word for me to a girl he works with at the office. It's one of the raer instances I actually asked for some assistance: Just put in a word for me and come back to tell me if she was receptive to the idea, and I come in for the lay-up. He did absolutely nothing! Then he has the gall to ask me whether I was going to ask her out or not. Fuckin' putz!

I think I started noticing this about a year ago and it seems to have infiltrated nearly every area I know. TV, co-workers, pod-casters, people @ the grocery store, everywhere. How does this happen? It's pretty much just as annoying as the Japanese "Neh?" Just end every sentence with "Neh?" and you'll fit right in.

Companies removing useful features and my lack of remembering that it happened.

Spent a good bit of time today with Mac Ports updating all off my *nix software, specifically so I could solve an issue I was having with GC Star. This is of course after fighting with Xcode as apparently at some point when either it or the OS was upgraded I lost my installed commandline tools. Got all that sorted out and ended up getting a GTK error about not being able to open a display. Took me a good hour of research before I remembered Apple ditched X11.app in Mountain Lion. Unlike java based application that trigger OS X to prompt for an installation, GTK was just failing to run. This was curious as when I manually tried launching X11.app it showed me the prompt I was expecting me to get, informing me that I need XQuartz. Installed XQuartz and everything was peachy.

Long story short, fuck I hate it when Apple removes features, even though XQuartz is better than their own X11.app.

The selfish entitled people who never use their turn signals when they drive. That is one of my biggest pet peeves. Is it so difficult? You're sharing the road with other drivers, be courteous.

Down in south Florida, you pretty much only see people with out-of-state plates using their turn signal [or in cases where it's obvious that you're turning, like in a $TURN_DIRECTION only lane]. It's fucking depressing, especially when a car cuts in front of you without any warning. Gaaaaaah.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

But yeah - I was mildly annoyed with that X11 business after upgrading to 10.8. Fortunately, I booted up The Gimp (or maybe Libre Office?) which presented me with a friendly reminder, along with a link to download X11.

Yesterday, somebody using a computing center computer before me set the machine to the color printer. I wanted to print a 16 page article. Color printer use is $0.50 a page. I go to the printer at the end of my row. No prints. Look at all the printers, the wastebaskets, and the recycle bins, twice. I ask about it at the desk. "Try again," they say. I go back and print again. Again, I check all the printers, the wastebaskets, and the recycle bins. I look at my computer and look at the little print charge notification carefully this time. "Job Size 0," it says. I go back to the counter, and as I'm filling it out they say "oh, are THESE your prints?" And it printed there twice, but on the second time it jammed partway through. Of course, they can't promise they'll refund me for the pages that were charged to my account by didn't finish printing on account of the jam! $15.50 (I left off the title page which had two hyperlinks, in blue - the only pages with any color through the whole article) for this. We weren't even using it today. Still, it's a good thing I found out about this before I tried printing off a 32-page modern translation of three Socratic dialogues...

Another thing that bothers me. The other day, I noticed that the Energizer Tactical LED (this thing) had a penny stuck in the lip. I shook it a bit and the penny fell out. Today, I wake up, and what's the first thing I do? I put another penny in there. TF2 Engineer said it best: "I told you don't touch that darn thing." Many smacks later, I've given up and applied loc-tite to the penny, and hopefully that'll let me lift it right off (I just put it on a piece of cardboard box, though, in hopes this won't cost me a dowel or something).

Fun times continue!

"COMMA like..." can die in a fire too, along with "the 19X0s called and they want their Y back." Hopefully that one's commonly recognized as an obnoxious cliche by now, though. I think I first heard it on Scrubs. I hate Scrubs now.

"Die in a fire" is pretty dumb too, now that I think about it. So is abusing the phrase "pretty dumb" or "As is..."
