If 5PB won't be porting Ketsui anymore and it will be somebody else (Arika? Cave?), does anyone think it's any more likely that the port will be not-region-locked or on the PS3? In other words, does anyone think this change in company could make this game more accessible to us, the western shmup players?

I'm somewhat confused as to of how all the code for DDP DOJ BL EX was stolen since... um... DDP DOJ BL wasn't on the PS2... nor was X Mode.


Sure, the dinky little original mode might've been... but other than that...

Asada's blog hints at a decompiler, but doesn't say for sure.

White label was on the PS2 though, and is more than ample. Black Label most likely features the exact same code as white. Simply different settings of different objects in the game would be present. (IE a different rank ramp, less bullets for some bosses, a faster accelerating hyper guage, etc).

A properly coded game would, from the start, be tweakable by the programmers. They change a few settings under the sheets here and there, recompile, and viola. White to Black is similar to changing the dip switches. The changes are coded - they just have to be set.

Was looking forward to these but due to the awful porting i wont buy unless its a perfect port. Now it looks like Ketsui is not gonna come out, jeez lazy coders indeed.

I remember when the PS2 port was put on the shelf due to issues of the stage 5, and folks were begging for Arika to release it still with buggy stage 5 and even less than perfect game play just for the chance to play the port…

now attitude has raised in snobbery and people won't even stand for long load times and would rather not see anything short of perfection. SMH

But that's not the whole truth. The fact is that the buggy 5th stage in PS2 Ketsui could have been at least partially forgiven (or not) since it was clear that there just seemed to be no possible way to make it work exactly right. Since everyone knew (knows) from the Espgaluda and DDPDOJ White Label ports Mihara to really be on top of his game people took his word as gospel on this matter.

OTOH when it comes to DOJBLEX: menu layout / structure is nothing else but a design issue, and loading times, arcade-perfectness, etc. should be expected to be at least as good as they were on PS2 just because that XBOX360 is a whole console generation better, faster and stronger than PS2. The problems in BLEX look like they were born out of incompetence rather than real problems of squeezing the last drops of bottlenecked power of the hardware.

At this point, I just hope that 5pb outsources the Ketsui port development to Arika. :P

Disclaimer: I have never played BLEX nor do I own that or any xbox. I do own (and occasionally even play) the PS2 port.

IIRC the PS2 port of Ketsui could have been released with a small "pit stop" for loading (as the 5th stage is somewhat longer/has bigger variety of enemies)? Problem is, would you want to play a super-intense stage only to have it interrupted by a "now loading" screen, and then thrown back into the action 15 seconds later?

Let's hope we get a CAVE port of Ketsui for 360 instead, with a 1.1 mode, or even a Black Label DLC later on when the sales has sky-rocketed.

This is simple no excuses for this port. I will tolarate a long loading time, but... loading times for the company logo at the begining? Loading times every single time you choose and option or go back to the previous menu?

Besides, there is lack of consistence in the menus, sometimes the back/cancel button is the B button, sometimes the start button, sometimes even the back button.

That is simple incopetence. It is not even near the emulation/game.

So then, Is anything happening with this one?

The 5pb site hasn't removed or updated the groveling message from 2 months back and the games page is still the same, Nothing from Mihara/Arika or Cave???

Mihara is working with Sakari to patch DOJBLEX up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mihara helped the Ketsui port along with the PS2 code he has for it.

There's been a few replies at Mihara's blog about what format he's thinking about for the patch, and whether to add new content or not. But basically the big presentation will be at the CAVE matsuri mid-August. That's when we'll find out what the hell's going on with both titles it seems.
