Not really. The hardware also needs to be specifically capable of detecting multiple inputs. Older touchpads like you'd find on a laptop for instance are not designed to detect more than one touch point at a time and you cannot make them do so simply via software upgrades. If the WiiU controller's hardware is designed to only detect single-touch and not multi-touch, then it's pretty much staying that way.

It's already capable, because any touch is a "multi-touch" from hardware's standpoint. The touch-sensitive layer has much finer resolution than your fingertip, so when you're touching the screen/touchpad, multiple touch-sensitive elements are excited at the same time. Tracking them correctly, so that several fingers aren't recognized as one, is a very non-trivial task, and it's exactly why it's a software feature.

But all that theory aside, I've been using modded touchpad drivers on my old netbook, which "didn't have" said capacity otherwise, for several years. If that doesn't prove my point I don't what else would.

Modded touchpad. Very interesting. I never thought of that, mind you, your avatar will not move according to acceleration unless specifically coded for touch. What games do you use a touchpad with? Notice any improvements to stick/keys/pad?

All I can make out is that the online shop is closing at the end of May.

I guess this really is the end for their arcade (and maybe console) division, then. Glad they were able to go out with a bang. Everything that was only sold on the shop is going to be an even more valuable collector's item now.

Yeah, they're closing. This explains why the English shop closed in the beginning of the year.

Before people start running around like headless chickens - this doesn't mean Cave are closing, just the online store (and with it, the Matsuri events). They're probably going to continue through Amazon.jp from now on.

No more Matsuris very likely means no more arcade games. I am saddened by this news.

If their financial situation is this bad, SDOJ will probably go unported (smartphones aside). Had to happen with these games at some point again.

There's no denying it this time. Their arcade and console divisions are in their death throes, and they'll complete their metamorphosis into mobile/social developer before the end of the year. I wonder if we'll even get to see that Vita shooter.

Just wait and be patient...

After this, I'm sure that some anime/mangaka is starting to plan a "Saki" anga/anime but with shmups... then, they will become popular as hell (but they will all be cute 'em ups [?])

Uh, sorry if I sound like someone else here?

We currently have a thread going full of silly delusions of successful Cave PC ports. This message, along with trap15's technical explanations, reinforces pretty clearly that those won't be happening. I thought the PS3 seemed like a viable new platform for their ports, since G-Rev's Under Defeat and Mamoru-something already ended up on it.

It wouldn't be any skin off my back, as I've recently bought one to go alongside my 360...for other games, not just shooters. And it's the only current home console in Japan that still sees any serious profits. But I was informed that those PS3 ports sold quite poorly and didn't draw in the new market one might expect. So I have to reasonably conclude that the core market-oriented, non-smartphony section of Cave is trapped, and doomed to extinction within the year. The direction they were heading in was obvious. What a pity.

Cave games would suit ps3 if sony would change their tune...

BTW... Didn't Ikeda/Yagawa/I don't remember his name say that he was planning a huge shmup or something like that...

Was it just trolling?

Anyway, If what he said is true, then we should be expecting more shmups from Cave...

Hopefully this means YGW will make some STGs in the future, rather than his current task of making silly medal games (actually, it's funny that he makes the medal games, considering the primary scoring mechanic in his games ).

BATTLE IKD

YGW was a man. A lonely man after his company had kicked the bucket.
Awed by his impressive programming skillzzz fellow programmer IKD begged him to join his ranks at...namelesslittlecompany.
YGW saw this as the perfect way of continuing his legacy of awesome games.
It started out well enough, but people where fickle and in a matter of time he found himself reduced to making medal games - without the medalling!

This could not stand.
Something had to be done.

It was time for YGW to take revenge on the company that had marginalized him and the stupid programmer that had hired him.

I think he means, like Galuda II Arrange and DFKBL, where the game features staggering amounts of bullet canceling for gold pieces.

I think after SDOJ what we need is a futuristic Pink Sweets sequel that looks like DOJ.

Actually that wasn't a joke. He really was developing those medal dispenser games. It's even dumped in Mame and uses the cv1000 hardware for the LCD screen and to control the dispenser/touchscreen.

Wow. I knew he had to be doing something but that kinda sucks hahaa.

They should've put him on SMT Imagine. That would go over great.
