You know how you were sitting there, one day, thinking "man, the last time I remembered a dream it was awesome, LET'S DO IT AGAIN?" Well here-we-fucking-go

Nobody sitting under the bare branches of the outdoor school moved. The teacher was probably contemplating something to say to make them forget what had been said, when SUDDENLY, his head flew up and over past them into the purple twilight. Just as suddenly, the G-Man appeared on the huge dark boulder next to the lectern, and he began to speak:

"Now classs, I have TAken the-eh precau-tion of...reMOVing your teacher's head and...replass-ing it with a better [mirthfully] one. [a quick glance revealed this was indeed true!]

Now I would like you to stop calling that white-skinned tentacle haired [twi'lek like I think] vampire boy g-gay or we won't be working together. :*(" This wasn't quite enough so he quickly composed this little rap to ease everybody's minds and forget their doubts: "Hey ASH, what's that? What's THAT? That's a METROcop! It's a metrocop! Look Misty, gotta tag 'em call! Good-bye!" Then G-Man stuck his arms out parallel to the ground (briefcase as well), spun around quickly a few times, and vanished.

Nobody dared breathe for hours.

And then I woke up, with one question on my mind...Who is responsible for this mess?

The fact that AMD "allows" laptop manufacturers to "opt out of" (i.e. AMD enforces a lockout against) official AMD driver builds being installed on their laptops, the upshot of which is that I have an old and buggy graphics driver on my new laptop for the foreseeable future. This is like some strange kind of inside-out DRM, where you aren't allowed to install the software iff you do have the dongle. What the fuck?

2x the fuck

Look at this though: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mobility- ... s-support/
and another possibility http://leshcatlabs.net/

I don't know about this lockout, but I recall looking at Clevo (a laptop manufacturer that DOES regularly release drivers for its laptops) GeForce drivers with edited code lines to allow installation of the drivers on non-Clevo laptops. That is a fairly old problem and crosses OEMs. This sounds more involved than that.

youtube videos titled (username) plays (game name). I don't give a damn who you are, I just want to see a playthrough of the game!

I also hate it when someone takes a vid of their tv/computer/whatever and you can see the surroundings.

My "favorite" example of this kind of thing (from some years back) was a nearly naked fatass taking a picture of a shiny teapot to sell on eBay. People noticed for sure, although I don't think it helped him sell the teapot (I don't think that's what he was after though).

Anyway, lots of things are slightly annoying at the moment. Possibly one of the better ones is the Moroun family's ad against a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor, ON CA, because it would cost money. Oh noes! Then they show police, firefighters, teachers, etc. and say THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL LOSE! Except that the Moroun family's creaky ass Ambassador bridge costs people money and productivity, and the bridge company's commitment to its upkeep has been questioned, and more importantly Canada has (out of frustration at least) offered to pony up most of the money. Of the rest that MI would be on the hook for, I think the Federal Government would provide matching funds. It would be a hilariously famous deal for Michigan, a "donor state" coughing up more in taxes than we take back, except that the Morouns don't like it, and so neither do their stooges in politics. Even the Republican governor is strongly in favor of the bridge.

p.s. Jesse Ventura is wrong. This is what you get when you term limit politicians; newbies are like little lambs without any power or fame to stand up to people with money like the Morouns who will essentially buy whoever or whatever.

Dear god that bridge is so needed too. Can't remember the last time the ambassador had all lanes open when I crossed it. Seems to be in a perpetual state of repair. At the very least the bridge needs to be twinned like Blue Water, though that doesn't address the traffic concerns in Windsor.

The only thing the Morouns managed is to fuck up their contract to build an on-ramp. They appropriated some land that wasn't theirs and built a convenience + gas station on it, which the courts finally ruled had to be torn down, and I don't know if they kept the right to continue doing the work because they were so clearly not interested in doing it according to the spec.

People who won't shut up during playthroughs really piss me off. I don't know why live commentaries are so popular but they're incredibly annoying. The moment I hear "Hello youtubers" from the uploader I close the tab and go look for another video.

Here's the problem, there are good guys doing commentary, just not many. Clementj642 is one of the few guys I've come across who gets it right. No live commentary, no fucking up the same part for an hour. Just interesting facts about the game and occasional wild tangents. His Let's Plays are generally fun to listen to, but 90% of Let's Players are tool who like to hear themselves speak.

I don't know if that's a response to the guys above, but Arino is a comedian, but even he has to cede the spotlight regularly so they can fit in facts about the games and data, and so on. But the main focus of that show is pretty much "ha, look at this guy struggle with the games!" If you don't have some skill in playing (and comedy) it's going to be pretty obnoxious. AVGN...most likely the less said, the better - but you have to admit he does classless shmoe better than most of the rest, and as far as I'm aware he plays the heel only on TV. That's more than can be said about some of the other "prominent" game commentators out there, like one who shall not be named (because I forgot his name) but can be identified by his like of ghost hunting.

I think DeceasedCrab was one of the early LPers, and I found some of his work (La Mulana and Monster Party - whoa, odd typo there, I definitely want to see Monster Monastery Party now) interesting...but his type of comedy is right at the edge of the '90s Jim Carrey style, and I usually can't stand that stuff. It was the, erm, humanity of it that kept me interested, I guess.

One of the other greats is Retsupurae, of course. There is something vindicatory about listening to some skinny teenaged white kids tearing shit up...reminds me of the '00s on GameSpy Forums! I am somewhat disappointed that they couldn't really eviscerate their ol' pal though :) Here's another. In truth they aren't always that far beyond their targets but that only makes it better.

Speaking of DeceasedCrab, a retweet from his Twitter feed:
BillyMC: I haven't seen a DeceasedCrab video in a long time.
Slowbeef: Even BILLY isn't keeping tabs with DeceasedCrab!
Diabetus: A loooong time.
Slowbeef: Right now DeceasedCrab's like "God damn it! Lost another one!"
Diabetus: "I can't get respect from BILLY? Dagnabbit!"

Here's a mostly amazing Altered Beast play they did this year. Good skills here too! The complete opposite of the guy who kept banging Snake's head into the underside of tanks and couldn't even turn his own volume down.

Over the last few days the left button of my Lachesis 5600 (which I've not had terribly long; it replaced an original Lachesis from last year which I essentially destroyed doing something silly) has been triggering multiple button presses at once. Imagine my great horror when, in Angry Birds, the yellow bird launches to fullspeed or the blue bird splits immediately. Apparently there is a software hack to prevent this, but I'd rather get the microswitch fixed (if I am right and that is the culprit). I just need to test it out on another PC to make sure it's not the PC going insane, which wouldn't surprise me either.

If that doesn't work, I don't really want to get another (fool me once...), as it's an all-but obsolete design only 2 years out of the gate (Razer's Synapse software doesn't support it, for example). Looking at all the gaming mice out there, most have really shitty tiny forward and back side buttons (and of course I have to find one that's left-handed or preferably ambidextrous, because I use mice left-handed) whereas both Lachesis mice have nice wide buttons. The Razer Mamba 2012 is somewhat newer (June 2011 release) but is meant to be used wirelessly (although it sounds as if I can use that one with the battery out and switched to "off" mode, just plugging the USB wire in).

Get a wired Microsoft Intellimouse. This kind: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D58-000 ... tellimouse

They're an absolute dream to use, really comfortable, and best of all (for you) they're ambidextrous. I used one without the side buttons for almost 6 years before it finally died, got that one a month or two ago, and I can't believe I ever used anything else.

Also they're pretty cheap

That mouse won't have enough DPI for my purposes, unfortunately. I guess having only one side button isn't a big deal though, because Razer's aren't that easily customizable (actually I just realized that the forward-sitting side buttons are hard to reach and I never use 'em).

I've been using the Logitech MX5xx series of mice for quite a while (my current one is a MX518) and that seems to work pretty well for me. I believe they've replaced the MX518 with a newer (and according to some people, not as good) model, but you should still be able to find a MX518 out there if you look around.

I believe I have one of those. Feels cheap and uncomfortable in comparison to the Lachesis mice, and again DPI isn't good enough.

One of the major things about the Lachesis series I like is that the top of the mouse is one continuous surface, rather than a bunch of plastic knocked together.

Anyway, I guess it didn't hurt to ask. I spend enough time with a mouse that I think it makes sense to be really picky about them.

Something that I found really annoying was last week when a coupla people were giving me crap about collecting videos, music, books, and games. As in, full-on making fun of me and I sat there thinking, "You know, I never give people crap for what they decide to do with their time and money. I hate traveling, but I don't tell others who love to travel that they're wasting their time and money. I dislike dogs, but I don't make fun of dog owners, etc..." 8)
